Elite City Resort ★★★★

📍 Navarinou 237, Kalamata

"The hotel's decor suggests a vintage feel. Upon entering, the front desk staff provided a warm and polite welcome, specifically pointing out the location of the breakfast area and swimming pool, and offering assistance with arranging taxis if needed. This was a very pleasant experience. However, there were a few less satisfactory aspects: 1. During my two-night stay, the air conditioning was adequate and relatively stable the first night. However, the second night's temperature was inconsistent. It would turn on and become unbearably cold, requiring me to quickly cover myself with the blanket, only to become too hot and need to uncover myself. I spent the entire night waking up alternately between the heat and the cold, resulting in a very poor night's sleep. 2. I came specifically for the hotel's beach and pool, but the beach is across the street from the hotel. This is typical of Kalamata; the beach is on one side of the promenade, while the hotel's bar and restaurant are on the other. So, the opposite side isn't a problem, but there's no designated beach area. Towels have to be requested from the front desk and returned upon returning to the hotel. Towels cannot be freely taken on the beach; you must wear your swimsuit upstairs in the hotel. In reality, it would have been perfectly acceptable for staff to collect towels from the room. Regarding the hotel's swimming pool, it's large and beautiful, but it's only open from 10 AM to 7 PM. If you come back from the beach and feel like you have plenty of time to swim some more, that's impossible. It's rare to find a pool that closes so early. Even hotel guests have to make a purchase to use the pool. We ordered pizza and fries, and left half uneaten. When we came back from swimming, the pool was taken away without our confirmation (our belongings were all on the lounge chairs, and we had just ordered). After complaining to the staff, they gave us extra fries, but only two slices of pizza (the waiter said we only had two slices left, but we actually only ate two slices before swimming). They also gave us two ice creams for the remaining pizza, which wouldn't have been a problem. However, the waiter's attitude changed from apologetic before giving us the extra items to an arrogant, "we're done with you" attitude afterward, which was very unpleasant. In short, for this price, the facilities and service are not good value for money."

Elysian Luxury Hotel and Spa ★★★★★

📍 Synoikia Kordia, Kalamata

"I had a really nice time at the Elysian Hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful and nicely decorated. My room was spacious and comfortable, and I loved the modern style. It was easy to work from my laptop there. The bathroom was great, and I especially liked the powerful shower. The breakfast was delicious! They had a good mix of sweet and savory options, with fresh fruit, pastries, greek pies, and even some hot dishes. I would have liked the option to order eggs or an omelet cooked to order, but overall, the breakfast was very satisfying. The hotel also has a nice gym and a spa, although the gym could use a few more machines. They have a very good outdoor pool too. We attended the New Year's Eve buffet, but I wasn't super impressed with the food. The DJ also wasn't the most exciting. However, the staff were all really friendly and helpful. I especially want to thank Vangelis, Andreas, Penelope, and Kathrine. Overall, I recommend staying at the Elysian Hotel. It's a great place to stay, and you can easily visit lots of beautiful places nearby!"

Karalis City Hotel ★★★

📍 EO Pilou Kalamatas 26, Pilos, Pylos Nestor

"We stayed two nights at the Karalis City Hotel and had a nice experience. It’s a good value for the cost. The breakfast spread was good with lots of options. We filled up and didn’t need lunch. Some fresh fruit would have been nice, they served canned peaches. The beds were a little firm for our taste, but the room itself was spacious and comfortable. Nice view of the harbor from our balcony. Roomy bathroom that was spotless. Appreciated the daily room clean. This was a perfect base for the area, great location near the square and lots of restaurants. There are a handful of parking spaces directly across from the hotel and a large public parking lot at the harbor down below."

Akroyali Hotel & Villas ★★★

📍 Agios Andreas Messinias, Ayios Andreas

". My wife and I stayed at the Akroyali in Agias Andréas for one week. We had booked a sea view room and we were allocated one on the second floor. There is a small lift so no issues getting luggage up to the room. The hotel is situated right on the harbour side and our room had sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon. The room, including the bathroom, was spacious, simply furnished but had a hairdryer, safe, aircon, TV and fridge. It’s fair to say the rooms are a little dated but that’s not a criticism just an observation. The aircon worked well, there were plenty of sockets and the beds were comfortable. There is a kettle and cups in the room but we swapped these for two mugs from the breakfast area, with permission of course. Towels were changed every day and bedding I think, ever other day. Now as those used to Greece will not be surprised to hear, the bathroom is almost a wet room. There is a raised edge around the shower but it and the curtain don’t meet sufficiently to stop water getting onto the floor. There is a drain and it does tend to dry within a few hours. However if a wet floor bothers you bring a sponge type cloth and just mop it or use the bath mat. Standing facing the curtain while using the shower does help reduce the impact as well. The balcony is small with a table and two chairs, there is however nowhere to dry anything. Luckily we have a travel clothesline with a hook on either end and pegs so we were ok. The view however is lovely even if in the heat you cannot quite make out the other side of the bay. WiFi was a little hit and miss on the second floor, better on the balcony and downstairs. There is secure parking just a cross the road. Breakfast is a buffet but what a buffet, there is plenty of variety and everything is replenished as it runs out. If you want hot water for tea or yogurt and honey just ask. Some people had scrambled eggs and omelettes but I don’t know if there was a charge for those or not. The staff, what can I say, they are all very friendly and helpful, many don’t speak very good English but this is Greece and their English is generally much better than our Greek. Special mention has to be made of the lovely Ana Maria, who does speak very good English and was very helpful at all times. Agios Andreas itself is a small village/town on the road from Kalamata to Koroni. It’s popular with Greeks at weekends and holidays. Busy season is July and August but it livened up a little at the weekend when we were there. There are two beaches, the one south of the hotel (turn right as you face the harbour) is the best. There are around 20 pairs of sun beds with umbrellas but plenty of space to plant your towel if you wish. The taverna/apartments that run the sun beds requires you to spend at least 7 euros and then the beds are free. Toilets are available in their building at the back of the beach. I imagine it’s a lot closer to how Greek locations were before the package tourist industry took over. There are"

Rex Hotel ★★★★

📍 Aristomenous 26, Kalamata

"We have stayed at the Rex a few times over the years and have been more than satisfied on every occasion. Our room on the 4th floor was on the corner of the building and was flooded with light. The bed was comfortable and the room scrupulously clean. The staff on reception were most helpful in every way. Once I asked where I might buy an English newspaper and the gentleman on the desk not only gave me the information he then rang the shop to check they had one. He then took me outside to show me exactly where the shop was. Breakfast provided an excellent choice and the ladies looking after the room were constantly refilling the platters to ensure there was enough. A particular plus in this hotel is that bar prices are normal and not grossly inflated as in so many other places. We often encountered locals enjoying their morning coffee or evening drink both in the bar and at the tables outside. The hotel is well placed for visiting everything in Kalamata. We enjoyed this visit every bit as much as our earlier visits and we are very grateful to all the staff who provide a wonderful service."

"We stayed at the resort during the off season and were treated royally. It is a beautiful quiet location across a small road from the sea. The room was very clean and comfortable, except that the bathroom was very small--we would suggest removing the door and putting in a curtain to separate it from the room, because it is difficult to get in and out of the bathroom. The breakfast was extraordinary--a full buffet spread despite being the only guests during our 4 night stay. The hosts were very generous with information about the area, including tour destinations, routes, and restaurants. Would definitely stay again."

The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort, Costa Navarino

"This is a lovely resort for golf players and families. Overall we had a relaxing holiday and enjoyed our time spent here; there are lots of facilities in The Romanos and in the other hotels nearby (Westin, W, Mandarin Oriental) to cater to all tastes. Positives: - four impressive golf courses to match the expectations of golfers of all levels; particularly The Bay Course offers some amazing sea views - there is a nice blue flag sandy beach (the water is pretty deep near the shore, especially if it gets windy and there are waves) with a good greek restaurant (Barbouni) - Eleon Pool is great if you are looking for a more relaxed atmosphere - Anazoe Spa has a wonderful relaxation area with pools, saunas (but for some reason the spa staff doesn't inform the customers about it...) - as for food, what we liked the most from The Romanos' restaurants was Parafrasi, everything we ordered here was flavorful: roasted beetroot salad with cherries, rabbit stuffed cabbage dolmas, grilled lamb and kadaifi with cherries compote - in Navarino Agora you can find some nice shops with resort wear and I was also pleasantly surprised to find a Benaki Museum Shop (with good quality museum replicas) - we greatly enjoyed the idea of the cinema in open air (there is one with classic movies at The Romanos and another one with recently released movies at Navarino Agora) - the hotel app, where you can find all the intel that you need regarding the resort's facilities and some discounts as well :) However, there are some aspects that still leave room for improvement: - the rooms need a bit of a refurbishment - the food is quite pricey and the quality is not always up to the cost (e.g. the italian restaurant) - the reception staff doesn't deliver services worthy of a 5* resort, most of the time they seem rather bored - the cost for different tours is unreasonable..."

"What a wonderful holiday we had for many reasons. Location was beautiful as was the beach. Staff wise; the jewel in the hotel's crown, was Jerry. Always had time for all guests, and chauffeured us all to and back from the beach. Jerry is the 5* asset to the hotel. The above statement, I happily give 5*. The rest, another story. Rooms, housekeeping was very poor. No liner in toilet bin on our arrival. One small 'guest soap ' for days. We asked every day. The ladies who were management, on the front desk listened, and resolved nothing. Eventually we were given clean bath towels, also clean sheets three days after our arrival. Only to leave the top sheet still folded on top on our bed! They did this same thing again, the next day. Truly shocking, and I wouldn't expect to have to make my bed even in a 2* hotel. The day before we left, the cleaning team didn't empty the toilet bin in our bathroom. Every evening we were flagging up our problems, not what you want to do on holiday. I felt management didn't really care. The beds were comfortable.however the lighting insufficient to attempt to put on make up, both in bathroom and bedroom. Interior of room, very tired. Such a shame, this hotel should be 5* but it's not."

Elysian Luxury Hotel and Spa ★★★★★
"Located by the sea, but with the beach being shingle and not really suitable for my disabled wife and her wheelchair. The pool was fine, but rarely other guests using whilst we were there, so very comfortable loungers easily available. There were limited umbrellas and shade, when we wanted it, was from trees which, was pretty effective although not quite as versatile as umbrellas would have been. The reception and bar staff were great, and nothing ever seemed to be too much trouble, working with me to book our onward transport to our next destination and taxis to take us the 2 miles into the local town; so grateful. We stayed in a suite with a private pool. Our unit also had a secluded garden and 2 comfortable loungers. The suite was spacious and had everything we needed. Breakfast was well supplied although I would have preferred the hot element to be freshly prepared rather than most mornings having to wait for refills, which were available, but sometimes took a short while to arrive. Surprisingly, fresh barista coffee although available was limited to just one cup (filter was freely available); an unnecessary economy for a 4* hotel, methinks. We tried 3 local restaurants; not too keen on the nearest (mostly fish) as it was way to greasy for our palettes, but the others were local Greek and very good. Occasional food at the Elysian, was mostly good, ‘what I call’, well prepared Pub style food and the size of the burger extraordinarily large."

"We had a deluxe room on a high floor with a lovely balcony facing the sea. Views were nice. The room was a great size, had a safe, tea & coffee making facilities and plenty of storage space for luggage and clothes. Nice bathroom with everything working well. Lovely breakfast and what a pleasant surprise to be able to carry your breakfast tray across the road to the covered terrace with views down to the city and the harbour. Friendly helpful staff. We also loved having access to the sister hotel Karalis Beach Hotel with its beautiful beach bar and sun lounge area, only a short walk from the Karalis City Hotel. We had a car and found parking easily in a small street just opposite."

"four-star hotel located in a convenient central point of the city near the central square, easily accessible. My assessment was that this is a beautiful, well-organized hotel with polite and helpful staff and comfortable, clean, bright and spacious rooms with corresponding bathrooms. If I wanted to present any element for improvement, I would say a richer and more adequate breakfast. Overall, I was generally pleased with my 2-day stay there and I would definitely choose it again on my visit to the city of Kalamata."

Searocks Villas Exclusive Resort ★★★★
"We will never return as long as the current manager George is there. Our feeling about Searocks are very mixed. Most of the employees were wonderful, especially Francesco, George, Maria and Christos from the restaurant, and Georgia from the front desk. We decided to end our Greek vacation by returning to Searocks. We had spent some time there last year and loved it, especially under the management of Christos who is no longer there. This year we reserved a different room, a junior villa with a guest house (we are a family of 5 and wanted accommodations without a basement room). We arrived to our villa and were very disappointed. The villa had an infestation of spiders. We understand that a few spiders are normal but we killed over 20 spiders within the first half hour and contributed to kill more throughout the day. Spiders were crawling everywhere including on the couch and between the sheets in the guest bedroom. I informed the front desk who came to see it and was also a bit shocked but what was going on. Underneath the beds and the kitchen cabinets there were spiders and spiderwebs. I asked to speak to the new manager, George, about changing rooms. This villa was uninhabitable. I was told that they were booked and the only thing they could do was clean the room again. We left the villa and returned a few hours later after having dinner at the restaurant that the resort covered. We were told the villa was cleaned and sprayed with pesticide to kill everything. When we looked again, there were still spider webs and spiders under the bed. I asked again to speak to the manager, George. At this point we had wasted a day of travel and it was almost 11:00 pm. He came to our villa and when I asked if there was something else available, he said he doesn’t know. I did tell him that we could not stay here for a week with the infestation and if there was nothing else available, we would need to go elsewhere and would like a refund. He had also had since 3:00 pm to see other villa availability. At this point he began to yell at me and told me he was familiar people “like me”. For reference, I am a Greek American. After yelling at me for 10 minutes he left and told me he would let me know the next day about a refund but most likely no. That evening, the air conditioner also did not work properly. The next day, the front desk girl did show us a villa next door and that was clean and we decided to move there. It did take an entire day to get it ready. The villa was clean and the same type. Please not that the bathroom in the guest house barely fits an adult and you cannot turn around in it. Last year we had a wonderful time and a great villa. This year’s experience was by far the worse I have ever been treated. Throughout the fiasco, an employee repeatedly told me that she was impressed with how I handled it and she would have definitely stayed somewhere else. This is definitely not the treatment and experience you should receive from any resort, especially "
