Treasure B&B Yun Tu Ya Ju, a definite must-stay! It's super close to Mingsha Mountain, within walking distance to the scenic area. The rooms are spacious and clean, fully equipped with King Koil mattresses and Laifen hair dryers. The private washing machine is very practical, and parking is free for those driving. The owner is enthusiastic and provides great travel advice. The price is affordable, offering excellent value for money. You absolutely can't go wrong staying here when visiting Dunhuang!

I've always wanted to experience desert tenting, and after careful consideration, I chose Windy. The location is perfect, with sand dunes just outside. The tents are in excellent condition, and the ensuite bathrooms have plenty of hot and cold water. The service was excellent, with prompt responses from the housekeepers, and the staff in the restaurant and activities were also very helpful and welcoming. Camel rides and ATV pickups are available right outside the room, which was a big plus. We were finally taken back to the city in a Mercedes-Benz van!

1. The hotel offers a complimentary airport pick-up service, and from the moment I was greeted, I could feel the staff's warm hospitality. 2. I absolutely loved the hotel's 'wild luxury' aesthetic – it's simple yet grand, with a unique and pleasant aroma. 3. The hotel's travel photography service is outstanding! I got the best set of photos I've ever had. Both the makeup artist and photographer were incredibly professional. I was instantly thrilled with the retouched photos just 5 minutes after the shoot, and even more delighted to learn they'd spend another three days on meticulous post-processing. The terrace above the lobby offers a fantastic photo op, especially with the red canopy against the desert backdrop – it's truly magnificent and a unique scene. 4. Given how dry Dunhuang is, the hotel thoughtfully provided complimentary face masks and lotion. 5. They also offered a free transfer to my next hotel.

Absolutely loved this hotel! The service was excellent, and the breakfast offered a great variety. The room was spacious, and we even got a free upgrade. The location is fantastic – just cross the Dunhuang Mother River in front, and you'll find all sorts of restaurants with good prices. They have a laundry room, making it incredible value for money. Plus, with the desert heat, having unlimited bottled water was such a thoughtful and considerate touch. A truly caring hotel!

We made a mistake choosing this hotel: the word “international” led us to believe it would be better prepared to receive foreign guests, but that was not our experience. That said, the staff’s service was excellent at all times. Although they did not speak English, they consistently made the effort to use translation tools to communicate with us and assist us in the best possible way, which we truly appreciated. The hotel was almost empty. The first breakfast took place in a huge dining area where we were the only guests, which meant the variety was quite limited. There was some Chinese food and a coffee machine, but there were no options commonly expected by international travelers, such as fruit, cereals, yogurt, or bread. That same day, we were informed that the rest of the breakfasts would be delivered directly to our room. The staff made a continuous effort to ensure we felt comfortable with this arrangement, confirming the delivery time with us each day. The room was spacious and comfortable. However, the cleanliness did not match the hotel’s level and price: the carpet had visible stains, and finding a toothpick at the entrance made it clear that cleaning standards were not adequate. In addition, the amount of shampoo and soap provided was extremely limited—again, not consistent with the quality one would expect given the building and overall appearance of the hotel. In summary, we would like to highlight the kindness and dedication of the staff, but we believe the hotel still has important aspects to improve, especially regarding international standards and cleanliness.

I stayed at this hotel at the beginning of May, and it was a great experience. The location is amazing — feels like you’re in the middle of the desert—which gave me a peaceful break from the hustle and bustle of city life.  The room I stayed in was absolutely beautiful and very cozy. The hotel owner and staff were exceptionally kind and helpful. They assisted me with various inquiries and even helped me take some great photos, which I really appreciated. The on-site activities were a highlight of my stay. I got to try camel riding, sand sliding, and even riding a motorcycle through the dunes. These were all new experiences for me, and I had so much fun. Overall, I had a great time and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a unique and relaxing desert getaway. The only downside was that the hotel posted photos of me on their WeChat account without asking for my permission first. I didn’t feel comfortable with that, and I hope they’ll consider asking their guests before sharing any images in the future.

Wonderful inn at an unbeatable price. The free airport transfer was very smooth, and we were given early check in and a free room upgrade (get the desert view, it's worth it! You can see the ming sha dunes change colour throughout the day, as well as goats and alpacas roaming the property.) The room was very clean, especially the washroom and shower, and the water pressure and hot water was very good. I think this is a family-run place, because the atmosphere is very open and warm. The owners were helpful with providing tips on how to get around and were always around to help and say hello and goodbye as you left and came back. It is just a bit outside the city centre, which adds to the charm; we called didi for most of our transport. The inn is also only about 3km to the mingsha dunes and crescent lake, which allowed me to go twice during my trip (one ticket is good for three days of entries). I have travelled all around China for one month, and this is my pick for a value stay.

This was easily one of the most memorable stays during our trip to China. The camp is located right beside the stunning desert, offering breathtaking sunrise and sunset views. What impressed us most was how many activities were included for free. We enjoyed unlimited sandboarding on the dunes, a camel riding experience, and even had the chance to ride off-road motorcycles in the desert. Everything was well organized and suitable even for first-time visitors. The traditional Dunhuang-style dinner was delicious and gave us a great opportunity to experience local flavors. In the evening, we watched a wonderful bonfire party with live performances, and the spectacular molten iron fireworks show was absolutely amazing—something we had never seen before. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The tents were comfortable, clean, and surprisingly well equipped considering the desert location. If you’re looking for a unique desert adventure that combines natural beauty, local culture, exciting activities, and excellent value for money, this is the perfect place. Highly recommended for international travelers visiting Dunhuang! We would definitely stay here again!

This is the only guesthouse on our Qinghai-Gansu Grand Loop trip that I actually wanted to write a review for! 👉🏻👉🏻👉🏻 We heard about it from fellow travelers, and it had only been open a few days when we arrived, so we were pleasantly surprised. The owner is incredibly kind and enthusiastic (super friendly!!!). We arrived late at night, and they were worried we hadn't eaten, so they specially made us some saozi noodles and brought fruit 🍝. I used my Ctrip points to get a free room upgrade, and the upgraded room came with a bathtub (in a twin room), which was incredibly relaxing after a long day of travel. The environment is clean and peaceful, the facilities are complete, and the overall stay was perfect. As a 'pet-friendly' guesthouse, their little 'housekeeper' Panpan (a pet) is also adorable, quiet, and very friendly. Here’s a little more about the staff: 👉🏻 The landlady: Enthusiastic and loves to chat, she was essentially our main point of contact during our stay 👍. The landlord: A classic, quiet Northwestern man, but he silently fulfills our requests (like boiling water for tea, etc.). The young boss: A very shy young man.

If life is a never-ending journey, then the camping trip at the Desert Star Hotel is undoubtedly a highlight of my journey. When I arrived at the campsite, the first thing that attracted me was the unique tent house. Unlike regular tents, the top of the tent is made of special transparent materials, like a huge viewing platform, which builds a bridge of communication between me and the vast galaxy. As night fell, I couldn't wait to lie on the soft bed, and when I looked up, the bright starry sky was presented to me without reservation. The stars twinkled, like gems inlaid on the black sky, beautiful as a dream. At that moment, the world seemed to press the mute button, and the impetuousness and noise in my heart were instantly soothed. The unique beauty of this quietness made me intoxicated. It is worth mentioning that the hotel staff is very considerate. After placing the order, the customer service guy at the front desk added our contact information and gave us some local travel tips, which saved us a lot of time. From the warm reception at check-in, to the careful guidance during the activities, to the warm greetings at night, every detail made people feel cared for. They not only provided me with thoughtful service, but also made me feel the simplicity and enthusiasm of the desert people. This desert camping trip not only allowed me to appreciate the magnificent scenery of the desert, but also experienced exciting and interesting activities, which became an eternal and beautiful memory in my heart.
