GGuest UserWe loved staying in this little hotel, a large and clean room with comfy bed and pillows, spotlessly clean and well stocked coffee and tea tray. As we stayed on Friday, the carvery was served and the food was good (the beef and roasted carrots was excellent) and plentiful with the price you can't beat. Excellent value for money, the same applies for drinks. Welcoming staff and free parking. Despite being positioned by the road , we had a peaceful night , no outside noise. We will stay again here as all together, it was a good hotel to stay in and I recommend it to others , for visits of Ripon, Fountains Abbey, Dales...

GGuest UserCelebrating our 50th wedding anniversary - no special treatment
Room ok - even though I had said I’d limited mobility it was on the 1st floor up 3 steps.
Creaky floors
Shower had 2 shampoos and 1 conditioner with no shower gel - only found out when already under shower
Parking but cost £15 a night with no reduction for blue badge holders
Steps up to front entrance
Steps down to reception desk
Breakfast was ok - sauce on eggs Benedict was cold and no beans on traditional breakfast - recommend boiled eggs and soldiers

GGuest UserThis is not a 4 star hotel. Lovely building but once you move from the public areas to the residential the quality drops like a stone. I would class our room as a hostel room not a four star room. The room was extremely tired, stains on the wall, dirty carpet with a grime build up along the edges, a make shift patch on the door, mould in the bathroom, peeling paint behind the sink and an unpleasant odour. All in all it was just unpleasant.
Nice breakfast.

HHarry1It's just that the facilities are too old. It would be better if the facilities can be improved. The room is relatively large. For me, the location is more convenient. There is no air-conditioning and there is a garden. I feel that it should be refurbished to be worthy of the price.

GGuest UserWe booked two lovely ”King” rooms - very clean and comfortable, in superb settings. The hotel is very conveniently located to allow a short walk into the town.
We stayed for two nights, and there were busy weddings on both days - but there was minimal noise, and the wedding guests added to the lovely atmosphere.
The hotel appeared to be almost fully booked for both days, so finding that only ONE lift was working was less than helpful (we were told that the other lift had been out of action ”for some time”, due to the hotel ”awaiting spare parts”?)
Annoyingly, the one working lift only went up to the 4th floor, so to reach our room on the 5th floor we had to hump our suitcases up the stairs - minor inconvenience, but unexpected from such a prestigious hotel.
Our biggest gripe was (a.) the lack of available parking spaces (one car park had a huge marquee erected on it for a function) and (b.) being told when checking in that there was a parking charge of £18 per night - even though there was no mention on the website or on the booking details. It felt rather ”cheap and petty” for a hotel to have to stoop to fleecing their guests for parking fees to park at their hotel! We estimated that there were around 150 cars - so guests with cars are subsiding the hotel by over £2500 per night.
All-in-all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay in a lovely hotel set in lovely surroundings - we would definitely stay there again.
