Mawamba Lodge ★★★

📍 Tortuguero Canals, Tortuguero

"The rooms were very simple but ok. It was just sleeping ...but very uncomfortable kiss. At breakfast I had expected more. The food in the restaurant was a little overpriced. For a small leaves salad about 9Euro. The plant was beautiful ...has charm."

"The accommodation is functional and only a few steps away from the beautiful beach (inviting for long walks). We were delighted of the friendliness and helpfulness of our hosts. The breakfast offered in a little restaurant in the centre was very tasty."

Laguna Lodge
8.3 (61 reviews)

Laguna Lodge ★★★

📍 Tortuguero, Limon. Frente a Laguna principal de Tortuguero, Colorado

"Set between the canal and the ocean, this hotel is only accessible by boat. It is also in the rain forest so humidity is very high. The rooms are in blocks around very nice gardens with wildlife all around. There are a couple of pools set in the gardens with towels provided. It is a very short walk to the beach but do not go into the sea and there is the chance of crocodiles and sting rays, we were advised to avoid the sea but to enjoy the beach. The rooms are clean and comfortable and there is mosquito netting up at all the windows. The rooms are reasonably basic, but we are in the rain forest - so don't expect air conditioning in the rooms. There is a big fan. The restaurant was very good and all our meals were a good variety. Drinks are a little expensive, but that is the case in most of Costa Rica. The tours from the hotel are amazing. The staff were very friendly and welcoming - we would recommend this hotel."

Valverde Glamping & Ecolodge

Valverde Glamping & Ecolodge ★★★

📍 Tortuguero National Park, Pococí, Tortuguero, Colorado

"Fantastic Place in the middle of the jungle with a lush garden lots of wildlife and most importantly amazing food. Stayed at the clamping room with own pool and patio. Spacious clean and cozy with a big bathroom and powerful shower. The staff was extremely friendly and kind to us all special requests taken care in no time and with a smile. Come back guaranteed."

Tortuga Lodge

Tortuga Lodge ★★★★

📍 Across from the airstrip, 1 mile north of the Town of Tortuguero Limon Tortuguero, Colorado

"Just the journey to Tortuguero is exciting, you either need to fly in on a small plane or arrive by boat. We felt very well looked after at every point of our stay, the staff were lovely. Lots of trip options, all worth going on. It rained quite a lot and we were out of turtle season but the wildlife did not disappoint. What a privilege to see it all. The food was excellent and the rooms lovely with a view over the water and in our case, a toucan perched directly outside."

📍 53JH+VQ, Route 32, next to "Braulio Carrillo National Park", (45 min from the city of San José) . / Ruta 32, junto a "Parque Nacional Braulio Carrillo", (45 mins de San José, Guapiles

"The beds in our room were comfortable. We stayed for 3 nights and they never changed towels or emptied the waste baskets, where used toilet paper goes. Because of the humidity the towels never dry so a daily change is suggested. The food in the restaurant is really sub standard and there is nowhere else to eat there. Service in the restaurant is very slow, even when there is only 3 tables in use. The wait staff are very disorganized. There is not a whole lot to do at Tapirs Lodge. I would not stay there again"

Carey Lodging

Carey Lodging ★★

📍 GFQX+C7Q 15mts southeast Tortuguero's High School, Pococí, Tortuguero

"Great basic accommodation on Tortuguero sand bar. Set slightly away from the main village area and public boat dock so peaceful and quieter than some other accommodation, but still only minutes walk away from the shops and restaurants. No pool on site but there is a pool in the sister lodge next door which is free to use - locals do not recommend swimming in the sea due to strong rip currents. Breakfast included with a variety of options including fruit, eggs, pancakes and Costa Rican rice and beans. Tea and coffee making facilities on site and freely available as well as a water cooler - water is fine to drink in Costa Rica but it was nice to have it chilled. Beds comfortable!"

Pachira Lodge

Pachira Lodge ★★★

📍 Tortuguero, Colorado

"Two night stop on an OAT trour We had to take a boat for one hour and 40 minutes on a most comfortable fast ride, with lots of birds viewed along the way. The waterway is a sort of inner passageway connecting the 10 rivers to the sea (no cars just boats for transportation). The town (if you can identify it as such is located across the river from the lodge on a spit of sandy soil about 5,000 ft long, and this is where many of the workers at the lodge(s) live. Back in the 1950’s this area was heavily logged, and the rivers and some man-made canals were dug to float / transport the logs. These waterways today are what are used to reach all the scattered resorts and transport locals between their homes by boat. The lodge is right on the water (and the water is high today as the ten rivers that dump into this area are swollen with lots of rainwater over the previous three days. No rain today, rather sunny broken clouds on our bot trip and arrival under 78 F temps. The lodge has 94 rooms of accommodation. The resort was originally created 25 years ago but after becoming part of the national park it cannot increase in size, but management can update any of the existing structures. The rooms do not have TV or air conditioning, rather a nice overhead fan that keeps the air moving. Screens only are on all the windows, with the sound of critter outside (the sound of the holler monkeys is quite noticeable). They tell us if the sun becomes predominant during the day, temps can get up to the mid 80’s this time of the year at the end of the rainy season. Today it had to be close to that point! There is a very nice pool next to the bar, and comfortable chairs all around. All the paths between accommodations are level and paved along with the nice nature walk into the jungle. The resort has many large umbrellas for guests to use at no cost, and Tom, “the Gimp” is using one of them to his advantage as a walking stick (right kneecap area still hurts) Giving this accommodation a 4.3 Hinge rating for the room as it sure could use air conditioning just to knock down the room humidity. At night we had to turn off the overhead fan and add two blankets to the bed. The lodge is located only minutes from the main entrance to Tortuguero National Park by boat and is surrounded by great winding canals and lush jungle. They call this area the “region of turtles”, only because the vast Caribbean beach shoreline. we went on a critter walk around the property and through the jungle. Observed a total of 6 sloths including one baby close to the ground and LOTS of noisy holler monkeys, crabs, and one skinny armadillo."

Aninga Lodge Hotels in Pococi

Aninga Lodge

"We stayed at Aninga boutique hotel as part of our tour. Some helpful notes:the rooms have screens only (you can close the curtains) but be prepared to hear the howler monkeys (and the guy coughing next door) lol. There is no shampoo, conditioner or body wash so please bring that with you. The rooms do not have AC but a ceiling fan above. Our stay here was wonderful-the grounds are well maintained and we enjoyed taking walks around. They have a nice pool as well which is next to the bar area. We swam as the monkeys were in the trees above us! The meals here were tasty. They have a buffet where they serve you. We enjoyed our stay! Thank you!"

Miss Junies Lodge Hotels in Pococi

Miss Junies Lodge

"Loved this place. Miss Junie's family founded the village of Tortuguero and were key to protecting the turtles her and establishing the park. The hotel is very comfortable and clean with a nice pool. It's nestled on a peninsula with the Carribean Ocean on the west and Rio Tortuguero on the west...so you can see both sunrise and sunset from the hotel. It's still run by the family. Grandson Gerald took us on a canoe trip through the park where we saw herons, otters, monkeys, sloths and more. Nolly, a daughter, was our turtle tour guide. She also doubles as the cook, and her meals are the best we had in Costa Rica."

"I think this is the nicest place you can stay in Tortuguero. Its right on the beach and a 5 min walk to the town. They welcomed you right when you get off the river ride and take you straight to the hotel. One of my favorite parts of staying there is sitting on the top and watching the beautiful birds, even though they were dropping fruit on me. Its a little more pricey than others but you get what you pay for."

Casa Marbella Hotels in Pococi

"Lovely relaxed accommodation with a beautiful deck overlooking the river and right in the centre of town. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are comfortable with air conditioning. We booked 3 tours through the accommodation and had a wonderful time on each one seeing a huge amount of wildlife. Breakfast is tasty, if simple. Rooms by the reception are a little nosiy in the morning but it was a great place to stay."

Caribbean Paradise Eco-Lodge Hotels in Pococi

Caribbean Paradise Eco-Lodge

"We stayed at this location for two nights and had a great time; lots of beautiful colorful birds and wonderful silence, except for the sounds of the jungle and the howler monkeys in the distance, though occasionally taxi boats speeding past! The lodge has no windows but mosquito nets, so you are truly close to nature! Milene, the owner, picked us up in San José and guided us to Tortuguero, where we were welcomed upon arrival by Bismarck. We had a lovely stay! We did two excursions: one boat trip and a tour of the town of Tortuguero, both with the guide. The beds were very good, the shower fine, and the food simple but tasty! And truly Costa Rican."

Foresta Lodge Hotels in Pococi

"This was very beautiful location with amazing gardens. The staff was a pleasure to deal with an very informative about the surrounding area. They have z a beautiful walkway through Jungle. The staff helped organize a spa day for our group and even helped get us there by water taxi. The owners had fresh drinks waiting us and our arrival with smiling faces. Very welcoming and accommodating. This is a must for any nature lovers or naturalist. Everything you could want to see in an eco tourist environment in Costa Rica 🇨🇷 can be found on these grounds. Frogs, birds, butterflies, monkeys, and many many more. This is a Top Notch place and should be a 5 Star rated place. They also have a beautiful pool in this remote jungle location. Can not wait to go back and visit this Gem again."

"We got picked up spot on time at 5.50 am from the Barcelo hotel in San Jose (15th July). Juan Miguel introduced himself to us and was our guide for the next 2 days. He was absolutely brilliant. He took care of our group to the smallest details, informed us what our room number would be and the key on the door, so no check in. The exciting thing is the road stops well away from the hotel, so a beautiful one-hour boat ride is needed to reach the hotel. The hotel is situated in an idyllic place between the canal and the Caribbean Sea. The gardens are magnificent, full of tropical flowers and trees. Lots of birds come and visit, as well as a gorgeous iguana, frogs... The rooms are very well appointed but very hot (no air con). The restaurant is open to the canal, bringing a bit of air. During our 2 nights stay we went to the village by boat, visited the rain forest from the canal, had a walk with a guide showing us what was around us and finally a tour of the garden. Juan Miguel was so knowledgeable about the fauna and flora. It was such a pleasure to discover Costa Rica nature in simple terms. The staff at the hotel was extremely friendly. Juan Miguel took us back to a place where we had breakfast on the way up. This time it was lunch. He handed us over to the driver taking us to La Fortuna, Arenal. We really enjoyed our short stay in this hotel."

"Beautiful glamping by the water in Tortuguero. To get there, you need to travel by boat for about an hour—this journey itself is already very special and beautiful. The tents and cabins are set in a stunning natural environment. In the garden alone we already saw various animals such as toucans, monkeys, and iguanas. From the dining area you have a beautiful view over the water. Breakfast was included and very tasty. For tours, you were picked up directly at the glamping site, and there was a free shuttle to the village. The morning canoe tour is highly recommended. Truly a stunning and unique place with super friendly staff."

"This is one of the loveliest hotels I have ever had the pleasure of staying in. It is quiet and ideal for those who want to be surrounded by peace and wildlife. The food is beautiful and the staff are friendly and make every moment feel special. Everyone was so kind but we would love to mention Luis, Michael, Andy, Gabriela and Martina who were patient and encouraging when we tried out our terrible Spanish on them! For us, the hotel offered the perfect balance of nature related activity and relaxation. We are already planning to return!"

"A beautiful and short drive from the airport lies a lodge in the middle of pristine high montane rainforest, where we saw tapirs, two species of snake (coral and cat-eyed), several species of frog (including red eyed tree frog), both sloth species, toucans, and much more in just 36 hours. The food was excellent too. We did the aerial tram, zipline, and night walk. The night walk was absolutely fantastic. The zipline was good. The tram was a bit expensive for what it was, but it enjoyable, afforded a close up eye-level view of a three-toed sloth. The hummingbird garden (not feeders), sloth rehabilitation center, and frog and snake exhibits were great as well. The weather was perfect for us with sun (but not too hot) and just a brief morning drizzle. By visiting, you are helping to support the conservation of their huge property bordering Braulio Carrillo National Park"

"This hotel has other partner hotels where you can access their pool. In fact, this hotel has an agreement with the Hotel Los Amigos, where you can access their pool and breakfast is served. As I said, the hotel is simple without great pretensions, but the cleanliness is adequate. If you're only going to stay a couple of nights, I recommend it. Breakfast is served at the other hotel and is quite simple."
