Mawamba Lodge ★★★
"Beautiful place, nice pool.perfect for family. The staff worked and service was good"
Casa Marbella ★★
"Lovely relaxed accommodation with a beautiful deck overlooking the river and right in the centre of town. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are comfortable with air conditioning. We booked 3 tours through the accommodation and had a wonderful time on each one seeing a huge amount of wildlife. Breakfast is tasty, if simple. Rooms by the reception are a little nosiy in the morning but it was a great place to stay."
Laguna Lodge ★★★
"The lodge was great, the surroundings were beautiful, the personnel friendly, the rooms clean and the wildlife extra-ordinary. Our guide Miguel Delgado was the best guide ever and we highly recommend the tour of the Tortuguero national park!"
Valverde Glamping & Ecolodge ★★★
"Tortuguero is all about the wildlife tours and this is one of the best places to stay, as their guides are fantastic. We did three trips with Jiro who was incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining as a guide. He's also the guide on the celebrity Race Across the World! The riverboat ride, night walk and Tortuguero hill were all full of animals and beautiful views. We also did the canoe trip with Antonio, who was even more experienced and knew all about the birds and plants. This was a great experience, as you could go into the smaller waterways, which was incredible. The lodge itself is lovely. Great gardens with toucans and hummingbirds. The food is really good and the staff are all very helpful and welcoming. The rooms are clean and comfortable, if a little rustic but it fits the area and all accommodation is similar in nature. I would stay again."
Aninga Lodge ★★★
"The Lodge was great, nice and private. There are no windows, but you are protected from mosquitos. There are guides included in the 2 night package, and we rally appreciated that two of the ones we encountered were locals that live close and not from other parts of the country. Hope they continue to use the locals, as this makes everything more authentic. Noel was a perfect guide, and he knew a lot about every little thing."
Tortuga Lodge ★★★★
"This is one of the loveliest hotels I have ever had the pleasure of staying in. It is quiet and ideal for those who want to be surrounded by peace and wildlife. The food is beautiful and the staff are friendly and make every moment feel special. Everyone was so kind but we would love to mention Luis, Michael, Andy, Gabriela and Martina who were patient and encouraging when we tried out our terrible Spanish on them! For us, the hotel offered the perfect balance of nature related activity and relaxation. We are already planning to return!"
Cabinas Tortuguero Natural ★★
"The accommodation is functional and only a few steps away from the beautiful beach (inviting for long walks). We were delighted of the friendliness and helpfulness of our hosts. The breakfast offered in a little restaurant in the centre was very tasty."
Pachira Lodge ★★★
"Two night stop on an OAT trour We had to take a boat for one hour and 40 minutes on a most comfortable fast ride, with lots of birds viewed along the way. The waterway is a sort of inner passageway connecting the 10 rivers to the sea (no cars just boats for transportation). The town (if you can identify it as such is located across the river from the lodge on a spit of sandy soil about 5,000 ft long, and this is where many of the workers at the lodge(s) live. Back in the 1950’s this area was heavily logged, and the rivers and some man-made canals were dug to float / transport the logs. These waterways today are what are used to reach all the scattered resorts and transport locals between their homes by boat. The lodge is right on the water (and the water is high today as the ten rivers that dump into this area are swollen with lots of rainwater over the previous three days. No rain today, rather sunny broken clouds on our bot trip and arrival under 78 F temps. The lodge has 94 rooms of accommodation. The resort was originally created 25 years ago but after becoming part of the national park it cannot increase in size, but management can update any of the existing structures. The rooms do not have TV or air conditioning, rather a nice overhead fan that keeps the air moving. Screens only are on all the windows, with the sound of critter outside (the sound of the holler monkeys is quite noticeable). They tell us if the sun becomes predominant during the day, temps can get up to the mid 80’s this time of the year at the end of the rainy season. Today it had to be close to that point! There is a very nice pool next to the bar, and comfortable chairs all around. All the paths between accommodations are level and paved along with the nice nature walk into the jungle. The resort has many large umbrellas for guests to use at no cost, and Tom, “the Gimp” is using one of them to his advantage as a walking stick (right kneecap area still hurts) Giving this accommodation a 4.3 Hinge rating for the room as it sure could use air conditioning just to knock down the room humidity. At night we had to turn off the overhead fan and add two blankets to the bed. The lodge is located only minutes from the main entrance to Tortuguero National Park by boat and is surrounded by great winding canals and lush jungle. They call this area the “region of turtles”, only because the vast Caribbean beach shoreline. we went on a critter walk around the property and through the jungle. Observed a total of 6 sloths including one baby close to the ground and LOTS of noisy holler monkeys, crabs, and one skinny armadillo."
Hotel El Icaco Tortuguero ★★
"I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It is perfectly located in front of the sea, by the beach (you cannot swim there and they remind you so) away from the nice little village so it is very quiet. I had to change my booking date and they didn't charge me the extra night. They also come to welcome you at the dock to get you to the hotel, which is great service. The rooms are basic but with fan and good wifi to book the park entrance! The staff is super friendly and makes the stay extra special. I did the canoa tour with Roberto and it was great, he knew his stuff. Highly recommended. They also explained to us how to walk in the park and get to the Cerro Tortuguero, which is a must to see the sea, river and canals from up. The walk up is very easy, actually you climb stairs. Very recommended to get a real feel of Tortuguero and Costa RIca."

Carey Lodging
"This hotel has other partner hotels where you can access their pool. In fact, this hotel has an agreement with the Hotel Los Amigos, where you can access their pool and breakfast is served. As I said, the hotel is simple without great pretensions, but the cleanliness is adequate. If you're only going to stay a couple of nights, I recommend it. Breakfast is served at the other hotel and is quite simple."
Amaya's Hostel
"Warm welcome, nice location, very helpful host, room as described. Everything correct. Maybe a mosquito net for the window would have been good. So you can leave the window open at night. Otherwise everything was fine! Thank you for everything."
El Deseo Serendipity Hotel
"El Deseo Serendipity was located in one of the most magical places I have ever visited! Not to mention the quality of service the hotel staff exceeded excellence. It was centered right on the beach, and is in the perfect area to be immersed in the nature and wildlife of Costa Rica. My friends and I saw monkeys, turtles, macaws, sloths, and so many exotic animals I had never seen in and around the hotel. They even have a butterfly enclosure IN the hotel, as well as a living tree growing out of the ceiling which is a great macaw watching spot. They provided a full breakfast service, and snacks throughout the day which were delicious and we could not stop ordering the Avocado toasties! I think my favorite part about the whole trip was the amount of executions the hotel had to offer. They book and plan everything so you don’t have to worry about making any reservations, making the trip even more stress-free! The excursions range from casual to adventurous, so there is plenty to choose from for everyone! Absolutely such an amazing experience and it would not have been possible without this lovely stay, informative staff, and unforgettable ambiance. Will definitely be back soon!"
Turtle Beach Lodge
Hotel Suerre
Foresta Lodge
"This was very beautiful location with amazing gardens. The staff was a pleasure to deal with an very informative about the surrounding area. They have z a beautiful walkway through Jungle. The staff helped organize a spa day for our group and even helped get us there by water taxi. The owners had fresh drinks waiting us and our arrival with smiling faces. Very welcoming and accommodating. This is a must for any nature lovers or naturalist. Everything you could want to see in an eco tourist environment in Costa Rica 🇨🇷 can be found on these grounds. Frogs, birds, butterflies, monkeys, and many many more. This is a Top Notch place and should be a 5 Star rated place. They also have a beautiful pool in this remote jungle location. Can not wait to go back and visit this Gem again."
Tapirus Lodge and Reserve
"This place is wonderful for the diversity of wildlife. We had a lovely, knowledgeable guide here, too. And the zipline experience is great. Thanks to the guys who ran that. But we didn't enjoy the accommodation here as it felt quite basic and hostely. The mattresses on the bed were old, lumpy and funky-smelling. The ceiling tiles were mouldy and the fixtures in the bathroom were starting to get rusty. Some of the staff were dismissive and a bit rude, though some were lovely so not all of them seemed to forget that guests are their bread and butter. The food at the restaurant was also pretty hit and miss in general, and they didn't really have a clue about vegan-friendly food. We were also surprised that guests were being allowed to stay with dogs. Surely this doesn't correspond with trying to protect the habitat for birds and wildlife that have made their home there? And there are 'rescued' snakes and other creatures kept in very small cages that we felt quite sorry for. It's a shame as this could be a great place to stay, but it is not. "
Miss Miriam Beachfront Cabins
Miss Junies Lodge
"From the outside, it's a beautiful property. The rooms are small, and there's a lack of storage space. It's clean. Breakfast is unremarkable: one cup of coffee, one fruit plate, and one pancake. A second cup of coffee was only provided after repeated requests. Juice had to be ordered separately. No bread, no eggs, no rice. They could have made things much easier for themselves."
Chinitasecolodge
Caribbean Paradise Eco-Lodge
"We stayed at this location for two nights and had a great time; lots of beautiful colorful birds and wonderful silence, except for the sounds of the jungle and the howler monkeys in the distance, though occasionally taxi boats speeding past! The lodge has no windows but mosquito nets, so you are truly close to nature! Milene, the owner, picked us up in San José and guided us to Tortuguero, where we were welcomed upon arrival by Bismarck. We had a lovely stay! We did two excursions: one boat trip and a tour of the town of Tortuguero, both with the guide. The beds were very good, the shower fine, and the food simple but tasty! And truly Costa Rican."
