AAnonymous UserThis trip was a last-minute decision. I booked the hotel after 1 AM and was pleasantly surprised after landing and checking in. As someone who pays close attention to hotel details, especially since Kunming is always just a layover during my trips to Yunnan, I have to say Papman is truly amazing. First, the service: I received a fresh flower basket upon check-in, and the hotel butler was incredibly attentive, responding promptly to all my requests. They even sent a freshly made cake for our wedding anniversary, which was delicious and high-quality. Second, the room amenities: The vanity had a full box of soft facial tissues, makeup remover wipes, mouthwash, and laundry detergent. There was a Dyson hairdryer, and the shower had a dry/wet separation with push-button controls. Third, the hotel's decor: Every step revealed a beautiful view, and there were multiple tea rooms available for guests to use for free. The rooftop on the third floor offered spectacular photo opportunities. Walking around the hotel at night, I was delighted to see the shadow of a deer cast by the镂空灯 (镂空灯 - 'cut-out' or 'pierced' lamps). Fourth, the food: We received complimentary afternoon tea with tasty desserts, and the late-night snack selection was extensive, including rice noodles, fried potatoes, 'bao jiang' tofu, and grilled skewers. The salted peanuts, especially the Yunnan 'xiaohua' black peanuts, were excellent; I immediately asked if I could buy a can to take home. All in all, I'll definitely choose this place again on my next visit to Kunming!
MMarc1The hotel is beautifully located by a serene, quiet lake, making it an excellent choice for a relaxing stay. It is particularly popular among families with children, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The breakfast is fantastic, especially if you go early in the morning when the food is freshly prepared. However, later in the day, the selection may not be as fresh.
While the staff does not speak English, navigating your stay is still manageable with some basic Chinese and the help of Google Translate—just as it is in many parts of China.
I highly recommend booking a room with a spa on the balcony. These rooms are located on the second floor, offering greater privacy and more outdoor space. The spa feature itself can be a bit tricky to use—you need to ensure the water level is just right, as too much or too little will prevent it from working properly.
Overall, the hotel is very clean, and the staff is accommodating and responsive to any requests. If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway with excellent amenities, this is a great choice.
Thank you for having me and for putting up with a stupid foreigner!
JJalieRoom was very clean and spacious. Cars do not stop in front of the hotel entrance and stop only at the main road so there is a short walk to the entrance of the hotel. There is self service bottled mineral water and dry snacks available at a mini bar beside the front desk, which is a plus.
The heater/ aircon in our room was not functioning in the middle of the night and there was no ventilation. The staff kindly sent a fan to the room. Our room was quiet and bed was comfortable.
There was a good variety for breakfast but the fruits runs out fast.
Did not explore nearby but there seems to be a couple of eateries around.
YYANGSONG TEOWe had a wonderful one-night stay at Novotel Kunming City Center as a family of three. From the moment we arrived, the staff’s warm hospitality made us feel genuinely welcomed and well taken care of. The service throughout our stay was smooth, attentive, and professional, creating a very comfortable and pleasant experience for our family.
A special thank you to Kit at the front desk for her excellent service. She was friendly, efficient, and went the extra mile to ensure our check-in and stay were seamless. Her positive attitude and dedication truly stood out and made our visit even more memorable.
We truly appreciate the team’s effort and would gladly return again in the future.
YYappariStory✨ Overall Impression
Stepping into the hotel, the lobby's design immediately gives you that ”the vacation has begun” feeling. The wooden structures combined with Southeast Asian-style decor – statues, elephant ornaments, and warm lighting – create a gentle, slightly exotic ambiance. It's understated but rich in detail.
🍽️ Dining Experience
The hotel's buffet area focuses on ”Yunnan specialty cuisine,” with meticulous attention paid to both plate presentation and space design.
The open-plan counters are neat and clean, offering a wide variety of choices. While featuring local flavors, it also caters to different tastes. Overall, it's above average – not stunning, but comfortable and diverse.
🛏️ Room Experience
The rooms are spacious and well-laid out, exuding the relaxed vibe of a resort hotel.
🛋️ Features a separate lounge area and a balcony.
🌿 The outdoor terrace is perfect for relaxing in the morning or evening.
🛁 The bathroom is fully equipped with a separate wet/dry area and a bathtub.
The overall style is natural and warm, with wood and soft lighting making it easy to unwind. However, upon closer inspection, some facilities show a bit of age, though they are still maintained in a comfortable condition.
🌴 Environment and Facilities
The hotel feels more like a resort-style hot spring hotel than a purely business hotel.
🌳 Spacious outdoor areas with a resort atmosphere.
🚗 Luxury cars parked at the entrance enhance the overall sense of class.
🏛️ Richly decorated public areas, perfect for photos.
It's particularly suitable for slow-paced travelers rather than those rushing through their itinerary.
💡 Pros Summary
✔️ Spacious and very comfortable.
✔️ Has a resort atmosphere, great for relaxation.
✔️ Diverse dining options.
✔️ Distinctive design, photo-friendly.
⚖️ Areas for Improvement
▫️ Some facilities are a bit dated.
Recommended for:
✔️ Those looking to slow down in Kunming.
✔️ Travelers who enjoy hot springs + a resort style.
✔️ Guests who prioritize space and comfort.
This isn't a hotel that will wow you at first glance, but it's a place where you can unwind and stay comfortably.
In a city with such pleasant weather as Kunming, it feels more like a ”gentle haven” than a showy luxury.
AAnonymous UserMy spouse and I, both retired, chose the Wanda Vista Kunming for our trip to Kunming. Upon arrival, we were impressed by the hotel's luxurious and grand appearance, both inside and out. The environment, cleanliness, and facilities were excellent. The staff were proactive and welcoming, helping us with our luggage. Our room was lavish and spacious, impeccably clean, and well-stocked with all the essential toiletries and amenities. The breakfast offered a wide and delicious variety of both Chinese and Western dishes. The hotel's location right next to Wanda Plaza is incredibly convenient for visiting all of Kunming's attractions. We, as seniors, thoroughly enjoyed our three-day stay at Wanda Vista Kunming, finding great satisfaction in the dining, accommodation, and transportation aspects. The hotel staff and the service personnel were truly outstanding!
DDiana AldereiWe recently stayed at this hotel with my husband and had quite a mixed experience – some parts were truly lovely, while others left us a bit disappointed.
First of all, the villa itself was absolutely beautiful and incredibly spacious. The natural hot spring water was one of the highlights of our stay — such a relaxing and unique experience. The surrounding territory is also well-maintained and very peaceful, perfect for disconnecting and enjoying nature.
However, it’s important to note that the location is quite remote — it took us around an hour to get to places where we could eat or enjoy a cup of coffee. This is understandable considering the mountain setting and access to hot springs.
The afternoon tea was decent, and although lunch wasn’t included in our stay, we tried the local mixian noodles and they were absolutely delicious! Must try! Unfortunately, breakfast was disappointing, especially for guests like us who don’t eat pork or pork oil - there were very few options.
A few maintenance and cleanliness issues also affected our stay. The outdoor pool was not super clean, some insects were swimming there. While we really loved the hot spring bathtub in the villa, the facilities could use a bit more upkeep. The toilet setup was quite basic — a minimum upgrade like a bidet spray or shower toilet would make a big difference, especially for international or Muslim guests.
A more distressing part of our stay was that we found dead insects under the blanket in our bed after returning to our room one evening 🥲 I do appreciate the staff’s polite and kind response – they offered tea and explained it may have fallen from the ceiling – but for someone with a strong phobia of insects, this made it difficult to sleep and really affected my comfort. I do believe this is something that should be taken more seriously, especially in a hotel of this level.
Despite these issues, the staff was very polite, cute and extremely helpful & friendly, and I can see the potential for a truly magical experience here with just a few improvements. I really wanted to love everything — and part of me did — but I was also happy to go back home, just to feel more comfortable and relaxed.
GGuest UserMy stay here was absolutely perfect, truly living up to its reputation as Kunming's top five-star hotel! The front desk staff were incredibly warm and professional, providing meticulous and thoughtful service. Heidi, in particular, offered personalized attention throughout my stay, making me feel exceptionally comfortable. The room was spacious and elegant, with a fantastic French light luxury ambiance. The exclusive down bedding was soft, skin-friendly, and offered superb support, leading to an amazing night's sleep. The high-altitude floor-to-ceiling windows provided breathtaking panoramic views of the city. The hotel as a whole was impeccably clean and well-equipped, with luxury evident in every detail. Both the service and quality were top-notch. This is definitely my first choice for accommodation in Kunming, and I'll be back again!
GGuest UserThe room decor is really well done, making excellent use of the limited space – it even gave me some ideas for home organization! For environmental reasons, the room provides a water purifier for direct drinking water, and regular bottled mineral water is also available, catering to different preferences.
Since Jen shares its gym, pool, and bar facilities with Shangri-La, these amenities are far superior to what you'd typically find at a Jen hotel. If these aspects are important to you, then Jen offers great value for money in that sense.
Special thanks to staff members Isabel, Grace, and Remy for their excellent service.

GGuest UserThe room was spacious, and the hotel is located right in the city center, just a 10-minute walk from Kunming Old Street, making it incredibly convenient to get around. Although it's an older hotel, the facilities are very well-maintained. From our room, we could even watch the sunrise in the morning, which was absolutely beautiful. The customer service was warm and attentive. The hotel is surrounded by plenty of shopping and dining options, and it's only a 10-minute walk to the subway station. The Panlong River is right next to the hotel, and the Jacaranda trees by the river are stunning this time of year.
