"The Portpatrick Hotel is a stunning building, inside and out. Obviously, this is shown by the slightly dated decor, but I would imagine it is a listed building, and their hands will be tied regarding what modifications they could make to it. For me, it adds to the charm of the place. The rooms are clean and have exactly what you need for a comfortable stay. If I had one complaint, it would be the shower; it was poor and rarely had hot water. Again, I understand this could be due to the volume of people in an old building. This did not affect my stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, the bar and games room were great, and breakfast was great value served in a stunning dining room. Will definitely be returning one day, thanks for a great stay! "We only booked the day before arriving due to change of plans and were so pleased they had availability. Everything was fabulous - location, our room, the food and the very friendly and professional staff. One thing I must highlight is the way the chef accommodated the long list of food allergies I have with very little notice. On both nights, I was served my version of two or three courses of the Tasting Menu. Very impressive and totally delicious. 🤩"

"We were staying in a cottage nearby and decided to visit the lighthouse for a three course evening meal. We booked ahead after reading other reviews and the dining room became full as the evening went by. The meal itself was five courses, with three choices, two set, all for a very reasonable price (£55 when we visited). There was a wide selection of wines available on the wine menu and something for every palette. The food itself was delicious, prepared thoughtfully and up there with what we're used to having in restaurant/fine dining settings.The atmosphere was cosy, relaxing and a warm welcome from the staff. We visited on a particularly hot day, and the restaurant area itself became quite warm. It's on aspect that would have made our dinner experience better was if the indoor temperature was cooler, but who are we to complain about having sunshine!"

"Lovely clean apartment, only real issues were the TV is on the same wall as the sofa, so you can’t really watch it, although we were only staying one night so it wasn’t a problem. The mattress is very soft, which would be great for anyone who likes that, but we both woke up with bad backs. The star was knocked off because the blind in the living room was broken and there was no lock on the bathroom door, but for the price, and the location, I would absolutely recommend it to a friend."

"Well what can we say, arrived and it was just a young lad at reception who did not have a clue, we were shown to our room to find a lady hoovering it, went in and immediately we were suspicious of the bedding pulled back the covers to find dirty stained sheets with long black hairs in it, there was empty water bottles in a drawer, the bedside shelf was not attached to the wall, the toilet seat did not fit the pan, my Husband went to reception and said we would like to be moved or at least give us clean shiedp"

"Had a meal last night, I had the braised steak and mushroom in a large Yorkshire pudding which is absolutely loaded with steak and mushroom and vegetables in a lovely gravy accompanied by chips which was gorgeous, the steak was fantastic, my wife had the cod in breadcrumbs with salad and chips and said it was the best cod she had had in years. Pleasant staff added to a lovely evening. Would highly recommend."
