"Protea Hotel Montrose was built in 2007 and is located on Road N3, in a large truck stop at 1,700m elevation, 20km south of Harrismith. The hotel offers 22 rooms over 2 floors, restaurant & bar. A practical motel in a remote area. Service is friendly and helpful. Fenced parking at night and OK WiFi. Our room had desk & chair, tea facility & fridge, wardrobe & safe, airco & TV, and a good kingsize bed. Window can open. We had a separate bathroom with washbasin, toilet, and shower. All was clean. Breakfast is at the Mugg & Bean diner. Protea Hotel Montrose is a comfortable motel and we had a good stay. Recommended."

"We booked the car transfer for the Sentinel Parking with Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge. We are a family of four and were charged 15 euro each for this 30minute transfer with a 4x4. With us was another couple so there wasn't place for everyone in the Toyota Pick up and know what ... after paying 60 euro for the transfer (for a family of 4), two of us ended up at the back with no roof, no seats and nothing except for very cold wind and the disastrous state of the road. At least, our transfer back to the lodge was ok as we were alone."

"There were many little things not right. 1 Phone numbers that we were sent did not work 2 Looking at the photo of the bedroom which was the one we had there were items missing - 1 stool, 1 bedside cupboard & the blanket. 3 Soap dispensers were empty 4 No toilet roll holder 5 Only towels for 1 person 6 The pillows looked rather scruffy 7 No shelves in the bathroom, though there was a good corner which could have been used 8 No provision for leaving the key when leaving early 9 I had to stand on a stool to access a socket to charge my phone 10 A kitchen with cupboards was attached to the bedroom but it didn't seem finished and there really was no place to sit and eat in comfort An acceptable stay and we were supplied with a warm blanket on request."

"What a wonderful stay! Amazing views and walk trails suitable to all fitness levels - even my 3y old joined in on the dinosaur foot print walk. The chalet is cozy and warm inside with all the amenities you can need, comfy warm beds and blankets. Staff is friendly and helpful. The chalet is private so your not in the face of the other housing options. Highly recommend, will deffo like to visit here again! I need to finish all the walking routes! only got to do 3, SPECTACULAR views"

"Awesome mountain landscape, beautiful Edwardian sandstone farmhouse, huge smiles from the incredible staff, restorative interactions with the horses which are everywhere, the wonderful food, incredibly forward thinking and honest soil restoration project with Oom Willie, this farm is a warm and welcoming place where you enter as guests and before long feel on a farm with close friends. I will admit that this is the kind of place that creeps under your skin and as you are driving out after a few days of bliss, your mind automatically starts planning the next trip! Few places have been so generous with their warmth and friendliness. The walks were extraordinary as were the wonderful vistas, mountains and wildlife. The horses in great condition, treated with kindness and respond in kind. Well worth the trek from Cape Town! Thank you to everyone who made us feel so welcome and at home."
