"We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay here last week. The hotel and the grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. All the staff we encountered were hospitable and helpful. A special mention to Sandeep who served us in the bar and restaurant. He is a very polite, pleasant and hardworking member of the staff. Sandra at reception was also particularly welcoming when we arrived. Our room was lovely and housekeeping does an excellent job. Everything worked in the room and we loved the proximity to the monkeys and exotic birds. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant - plenty of choice, both at breakfast and dinner. Lots of tasty local dishes as well as international cuisine. The location of the hotel is ideal too. We enjoyed lunch at some local restaurants by turning left out of the main entrance. We didn’t use all the facilities, but our short stay was very enjoyable and we can highly recommend this attractive, comfortable hotel."

Spice Village Thekkady - a CGH Earth Experience
"Spice Village is located in Thekkady, Kerala, close to the Periyar Tiger Reserve. It is an eco-resort with 52 cottages spread out in about 12 acres of spice gardens. We were greeted by the friendly staff with a handmade paper necklace and fruit drinks, after which we were escorted to the cottages through the meandering paths. These cottages have elephant grass thatched-roof, built in traditional style of the dwellings of the local Mannan tribe. All the cottages are properly numbered and is easy to locate. There are two types of cottages - Spice Garden Cottage and the more spacious Deluxe Cottage with a private garden. We stayed in Spice Garden Cottage, which has a very large room and a living area. Interior was eco-friendly and had no air-conditioning. Though it had a ceiling fan, we didn’t have to use it, as it was pretty cool inside. It had a red-oxide-floored verandah, recycled pinewood furniture and organic toiletries. Bathrobes, hairdryers as well as shaving and dental kits were provided. As there is no TV in the room, it provides a peaceful environment suitable for relaxation and it also encourages the guests to engage with various in-house activities. The Woodhouse Lounge bar was very interesting with lot of old-time photographs and some antiques used by A.W. Wood, the first ranger of Periyar National Park, who resided here before. The bar offers a wide range of drinks and cocktails. There is also a billiards table inside the bar. Tamarind Tree restaurant offers global and local fare. Breakfast was buffet and had a satisfactory spread. For lunch, the South Indian thali or Kerala Sadhya was served, which was sumptuous and filling. An a la carte menu is also available for lunch and dinner. Menu caters to almost every taste and I really enjoyed the non-vegetarian dishes, especially the mutton and pork dishes. There is also live music played at night. There are plenty of activities to keep you engaged inside the property itself. While visiting the water recycling plant, vermicompost plant etc. during the guided tour of the property, the guide explained the eco-friendly practices of the resort, which was very informative and educational. During this property tour, the guide also introduced us to the flora and fauna inside the property. The tour ends at the café where you are served afternoon tea and snacks. Every day evening there is a demo cooking class in Tamarind restaurant and cultural programs in the amphitheater. The resort offers amenities like a swimming pool, a yoga and meditation center, an Ayurveda center, a recreation center, and a nature interpretation center. For active guests, there are badminton, tennis, and half basketball courts. The staff were friendly and very helpful in all areas – be it in the front office, restaurant, bar, housekeeping or the guides, especially, Mr. Francis, who took us around the property. Though the place looks very simple, it is well equipped with all amenities and is a fusion of luxury"

"We recently completed a wonderful 10-day stay at Abad Green Forest in Thekkady, and I wanted to share my appreciation for the exceptional experience. Everything went smoothly throughout our visit. Ms. Shilpa at the front desk was amazing, assisting us with all our bookings and recommending high-quality, unique activities. Our room was clean and comfortable, and we truly enjoyed the local wildlife; the staff did an excellent job ensuring the animals remained at a safe distance while I captured some incredible photos. The restaurant was also excellent and prepared a very special meal for us on Easter. The restaurant staff went out of their way to make each meal special and relaxing. We found the entire staff to be attentive and helpful, meeting our every need. Everyone had a smile and a kind greeting. Additionally, the spa was outstanding—the therapist is incredibly talented, and I highly recommend her services to other guests. We also enjoyed exploring the welcoming local community. We will highly recommend Abad Green Forest to others and thank you for a memorable holiday."

"This hotel is a little out of town, but is located in a beautiful forest environment. Arrival is smooth and a staff member escorts you to your room, to point out amenities and let you know about timings and activities here. My room was beautifully appointed, spacious with a glorious balcony and view. The lunch and dinner restaurant is very good - great service and good food. Staff are very professional and super-friendly. My room had a good bathroom, shower and bed. I had a very early start one morning and they were able to bring me some packed breakfast without any fuss at all. I went ***** to the cooking demonstration and really enjoyed that. Thank you to all here."

"Pathetic experience- Rooms were dirty, linen was not even dusted properly, ac was leaking, lack of basic amenities like telephone in the room, service staff is mostly clueless. Checkin process took time and then we were taken to two different floors of the hotel before coming back to the reception and finding out our rooms were right behind the reception. Food is the worst, a place in Kerala should atleast know how to make idli if nothing else. Tasteless, cold food was served."

Although the price is a little high, the overall experience was definitely worth it.The surroundings were beautiful, peaceful, and very quiet. I especially loved the garden and the stunning forest view. Whenever we called for any assistance, the staff responded immediately.The housekeeping team did an excellent job. A special thanks to Manager Faiyaz, who coordinated everything perfectly. He was very kind, humble, and professional. Even in just one day, he made a great impression on us. During my entire trip, this was the only hotel where every staff member treated us with such genuine care, respect, and humility.Just one small suggestion: the generator noise was quite loud at times.
