Travelodge by Wyndham Thunder Bay
"I chose this hotel because it was close to where I was, and the price was a bit more reasonable compared to the others. I had seen the bad reviews beforehand, but I thought to myself, "How bad could it really be?" Well, I saw with my own eyes that it actually is that bad. Overall, I was highly dissatisfied; it was a completely negative experience. We were on a road trip and I was quite tired when we arrived. Right from the start, when we first walked in, there was an awful smell in the lobby. Then we got into the elevator, and there was a completely different odor there. We went upstairs, and the hallway had another bad smell. Finally, we entered the room, and the room itself smelled awful too. There is a window, but it is the type that cannot be opened, so you cannot even get any fresh air. To make things worse, there is something by the window—whether it’s an AC unit or a ventilation system, it’s hard to tell. But it’s definitely not functioning as an air conditioner anymore; it’s probably just a fan now. Maybe it was an AC once upon a time, but now it does absolutely nothing except make a ton of noise. So, you can't open the window, no cool air comes from the unit, and there is a terrible smell inside. It was a really difficult and uncomfortable situation. The hotel is extremely run-down. A hotel can be old, but you are supposed to maintain it properly. This place is both poorly maintained and very old. It feels like their attitude is just "let it go as far as it can" and "let's collect as much money as we can" without putting any effort into it. In my opinion, this is completely disrespectful to the customers. For this price, you can easily find a much cleaner and more decent place. Sure, the price isn't crazily expensive, but they couldn't sell it for a high price anyway with this quality. Still, people at least deserve to stay in a clean place. Once we were in the room, we had to handle everything ourselves because the hotel staff didn't help at all. If we hadn't fixed the clogged sink on our own, it would have been completely unusable until morning because they said maintenance would only come in the morning. However, check-out is already at 11:00 AM anyway. Thank goodness we only booked this place for one night; staying here for a few days would be impossible. The next morning, since breakfast was included, I went down, but there isn't even a proper breakfast room. You just sit on the sofa right across from the reception and try to eat from paper plates. Anyone planning to book this place shouldn't expect much for breakfast. There was no bread at all; they only had muffins, oranges, apples, small fruit yogurts, a small fruit salad in a box, tea, coffee, and cereal. That was literally it. So overall don't go."
