"We truly enjoyed our stay at The One Watamu. From the moment we arrived, everything felt intentional — calm, stylish, and effortlessly luxurious. The design is stunning, with beautiful finishes and a serene atmosphere that instantly makes you slow down and breathe. Our room had an amazing beach view and was spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully curated, blending modern comfort with the coastal charm that makes Watamu so special. The service was warm and attentive without being overwhelming — we genuinely felt welcomed rather than managed. A special thank you to the manager, Mr. Sudhir, who was so welcoming and made us feel truly special throughout our stay. His personal touch did not go unnoticed. At the restaurant, one of the chefs stood out — the food was exceptional, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. You could really taste the care and skill in every dish. We especially loved how peaceful and intimate the experience felt. Every detail seemed carefully considered. We left feeling refreshed, connected, and already looking forward to going back. Highly recommend for couples looking for a refined, peaceful coastal escape in Watamu."

"We stayed at this hotel for 10 days on an all-inclusive basis. It's a lovely hotel, relatively small and therefore family-friendly, but it has everything you could need; you'll be pampered. There's a beautiful pool and the beach is right next door. There's also a massage center. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The entertainment team is always attentive to guests and always there to help or accompany you in town. There are daily activities throughout the day. A big thank you and well done to everyone; we had a wonderful holiday. I highly recommend it!"

📍 Opposite Bluemoon Mall, Watamu

"Wow! This is a place my wife and I would like to stay again, especially once the WiFi signal is stabilized and speeds optimized, which I was assured is being sorted out. This affected my room and is the only reason for the missing star. :( The staff is very responsive. Lydia, the receptionist, went above and beyond to cater to us. She is the undisputed anchor of the resort. The rest of the staff were friendly and always checked in whenever we passed by them. The rustic Italian architecture and ground landscaping transfers you to a different world and time. We made a few suggestions about room lighting to evoke a better ambience but that was just personal taste. Another guest might scoff at it! The pool is well maintained. We enjoyed several swims even though I'm nowhere near a master of the sport. Being the good swimmer that she is, my wife gave me some valuable lessons. Perhaps that's why I married her. :) The restaurant food quality was okay but there are some other options around like Ndoto Cafe, where we had some of the best chicken curry and local cuisines we've ever tasted in our lives. It's a hidden local gem, and only 2-minutes stroll away. Try it. GK Palms Resort anyone? Yes, please!!! Again? Yes and yes!!!"

📍 Jacaranda Road, Watamu

"I'm finally writing, regrettably late, a review of this fantastic resort. First of all, I must compliment the staff and everyone else; they were fantastic every step of our stay. But first and foremost, I must mention Giselle, who was truly there for every request. The cuisine is truly excellent; the resort is run by Italians, and the quality of the food reflects that of our beautiful country. The rooms are generously sized and impeccably clean. Everything was perfect!! Thank you so much, I hope to return someday!"

"Not really the best place for a stay. A lot of the food on the menu they don’t have (even simple things as orange juice and avocado and mango dishes, which are in season here right now) and the same for the wines. Our room was not the most clean room. There were bloodstains on our bedsheets and the floor."

"Posto meraviglioso e curatissimo. La piscina è da sogno e l'accoglienza impeccabile: lo staff riesce a farti sentire coccolata con estrema discrezione. Il mix perfetto tra lusso e libertà per scoprire il territorio circostante. Assolutamente consigliato! A beautiful and impeccably maintained property with a stunning pool. I felt completely relaxed and at peace, thanks to a staff that truly cares about guest well-being while remaining perfectly discreet. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for high standards and comfort, combined with the freedom to authentically experience the local culture. A truly wonderful stay!"

Kobe Suite Resort Hotels in Watamu

Kobe Suite Resort

"Fantastic beach location but when tide is in unable to walk on the beach. The suites are large however they are very dark, even with all the lights on, also our bathroom was quite tired. All the electric sockets are European rather than the 3 pin Kenya socket, presumably due to a lot of guests being Italian. If you’re going for a true Kenya experience then this isn’t the place as all the staff speak Italian rather than Swahili. The food was very good although due to the restaurant being open to the public we found service was slow. Staff were very friendly and helpful"

Medina Palms Hotels in Watamu

Medina Palms

"Attractive hotel with very spacious suites. We enjoyed the beach bar and the view from there, the beach is stunning! We ate in the garden which is charming although the breakfast service could be slow with everything being brought from the first floor restaurant downstairs. We enjoyed all the meals, lovely fruit selection at breakfast. We especially enjoyed the prawns piri piri. Lots of pools to sit around and enjoy but only one swimming pool with a hand rail? Our suite was at the sea front near to the ‘large adult only pool’ but I could never access it. I am elderly and need something to hold onto when getting in and out of a pool. A handrail there by the steps would be excellent! Staff were all friendly and helpful."

"We stayed with friends (3 couples in total) the last week of March. Journey of over two hours from Mombasa by bus with several final kilometers on a dirt road with bumps and cross-country holes, ideal for those with back pain problems. Externally beautiful structure with well-kept gardens. Rooms with ceiling fan and air conditioning, well maintained with private bathroom with minimum maintenance. Personally I don't go on holiday to eat and drink but if you want to compare the price paid (+ all inclusive) to the quality and, especially, the variety you could certainly expect much more. White beach always clean with sunbed service with vintage mattresses but comfortable to be covered however with towels provided free of charge with potential replacements without problems. Staff and staff always smiling and courteous. Definitely and sensationally negative points: - Of the 4 showers in the (salt) swimming pool, only one works (let's say very, very generously) without being able to get wet enough (for common hygiene) to remove sand and/or sweat before entering the water. afterwards to remove the salt to have a light refreshment (very little water and always hot). If even two are opened at the same time, no more water flows for anyone. When you ask the staff, they tell you that it is always like this and not because there was a fault. We also tried on the beach of the nearby Jumbo Resort and found the same situation. - But the even more serious sore point (in my opinion) is the dining room (where there are only three (3) ceiling fans (apart from another 4 placed above the buffet tables to chase away flies) which favor only 3 / 4 tables with 4 seats each which, consequently, are always the most coveted by almost all customers who, immediately after the first day, realize that it is not possible that in a 4 star resort you have to endure 3 times a day heat of this kind at just as many times of the day. I think that installing several other fans above as many tables would certainly not be a devastating expense for the owner(s) (among other things also of two adjacent resorts (Jumbo / Bravo) and perhaps many customers would have been satisfied. I certainly consider that we are in Kenya and that everything is parameterized to the "African" situation (with all due respect) but if the price is that of a 4 star resort, you have to offer related services and quality and it is not always possible and in any case, having to justify yourself with the same words.... "eh but we are in Africa".... So if, given the usual daily temperatures, you want to sit quietly to eat without suffering from the heat (be careful, I didn't say al fresco , it would be too much) then I advise you to choose another resort. Negative note aside, which however goes beyond the management of the resort, are the "beach boys" (very many) who stay all day between the border of the king"

Sun Palm Beach Resort Hotels in Watamu

Sun Palm Beach Resort

"Overall, the facility isn't bad. The pool is very nice, as is the well-equipped beach. There's a beach volleyball court... the location is also excellent. The food is okay... although there are some things that could be improved, especially with regards to the variety of food and the availability of fruit... the staff is very friendly. The only flaw is the organization of guest entertainment... entertainment is almost non-existent for a resort!"

"We have had numerous visits to this hotel, and every stay continues to exceed our expectations. The staff are consistently warm, friendly, and truly go above and beyond especially Husna to ensure our team is comfortable and well taken care of. Its welcoming and a well-organized environment that supports both relaxation and team engagement. The ambience is absolutely breathtaking, with stunning ocean views that create a calm and refreshing atmosphere. The rooms are spotlessly clean, well-maintained, and very comfortable, adding to the overall excellent experience. This hotel remains our preferred choice while in Watamu, we look forward to the next visit! #every stay a story"

The Charming Lonno Lodge Watamu ★★★★
"We booked directly with Lonno Lodge, which we understand is owned by Aldo and Sylvia and managed with them by Grace. The lodge knew we were travelling with three children under 12, yet several material issues were not disclosed in advance. Dogs in Guest Areas: Two large dogs roamed freely throughout the property. Within hours of arrival, one grabbed and burst the children’s pool ball - Grace gave a temporary replacement the next morning. More concerning was hygiene: the children could not play on the grass due to dog faeces. We even photographed one of the dogs actively defecating on the main pathway outside our rooms; the faeces remained there until the next morning. Food: Dinner was a four‑course set menu of fish every night, with no alternatives offered. This was not mentioned before arrival and would be problematic for anyone with dietary restrictions. No Air‑Conditioning: The rooms had no air‑conditioning, which made sleeping extremely uncomfortable in the heat and humidity. Children Made to Feel Unwelcome: On our first night, Aldo approached our table to say the children were affecting the “ambience.” Later, a waiter told the children to be quiet in the local language. With dog faeces on the grass and large dogs roaming freely, the children had nowhere safe to play. We also noticed there were no children’s seats at mealtimes; younger children had to balance on cushions to reach their food. Beach Access: There is no usable beach. Access is via steep, precarious steps built over jagged cliff rock. Even adults had to descend with extreme caution. Another guest had recently fallen on the rocks and required several days of hospital admission. Pool Safety: The pool contains a submerged concrete box described as a “table,” but unlike pool tables elsewhere, it sits below the waterline and is difficult to see. A guest collided with it and suffered facial swelling. Staff appeared unsure how to respond, and no first‑aid support was offered until we requested an ice pack and contacted Sylvia. Aldo later said the structure would not be removed as it had been there for “20 or so years.” Only then was a doctor called. Under widely recognised safety standards, hidden underwater hazards should be removed or clearly marked, and staff should be trained to respond immediately to injuries. Overall: The lodge is small and peaceful, but the combination of roaming dogs, hygiene issues, restrictive food, lack of air‑conditioning, unwelcoming attitude toward children, hazardous beach access and unsafe pool design meant we could not relax or enjoy our stay. Unfortunately, we would not return or recommend Lonno Lodge based on our experience."

"We stayed at Rafiki Tamu for 2 nights, the structure is brand new, a very nice swimming pool, our Villa was furnished in a super modern style. Super helpful staff. Upon arrival they welcomed us with a plate of fresh fruit, really good! It was close to every local interest. I would definitely go back!!!"
