AHG Lion Beach Resort

AHG Lion Beach Resort

📍 Beach Road, Watamu
★★★ 8.4 (56 reviews)

"We stayed in this amazing resort last week and had a very positive experience. Food is up to quality, great variety and the chef cooks in front of us. Wifi works magic in every corner of the resort, which is not common for resorts in tropical places. Only exception is the beach but better for us to better enjoy our relax in front of the ocean. The room is nice, big bed and a stunning sea view. The beach is part of the hotel, sun-beds available 10 meters from the sea. Animation team really nice and fun, available every day. I really hope to come back in the future"

GK Palm Resort Watamu

GK Palm Resort Watamu

📍 Opposite Bluemoon Mall, Watamu
★★★ 8.0 (3 reviews)

"Wow! This is a place my wife and I would like to stay again, especially once the WiFi signal is stabilized and speeds optimized, which I was assured is being sorted out. This affected my room and is the only reason for the missing star. :( The staff is very responsive. Lydia, the receptionist, went above and beyond to cater to us. She is the undisputed anchor of the resort. The rest of the staff were friendly and always checked in whenever we passed by them. The rustic Italian architecture and ground landscaping transfers you to a different world and time. We made a few suggestions about room lighting to evoke a better ambience but that was just personal taste. Another guest might scoff at it! The pool is well maintained. We enjoyed several swims even though I'm nowhere near a master of the sport. Being the good swimmer that she is, my wife gave me some valuable lessons. Perhaps that's why I married her. :) The restaurant food quality was okay but there are some other options around like Ndoto Cafe, where we had some of the best chicken curry and local cuisines we've ever tasted in our lives. It's a hidden local gem, and only 2-minutes stroll away. Try it. GK Palms Resort anyone? Yes, please!!! Again? Yes and yes!!!"

★★★★★ 9.1 (58 reviews)

"Facilities: We stayed in a 1-bedroom suite. The living room was clean and spacious, making our stay very comfortable. Cleanliness: The room was cleaned twice a day and bottled water was replenished, so it was always very clean. Environment: The sea view was incredible! We were right in the reef and lagoon area, and every low tide revealed a stunning array of blue hues. Service: There were many extra activities available. A full-day deep-sea fishing trip was $1400, and the service was excellent. They also offered snorkeling, scuba diving, and sunset cruises, which were all fantastic experiences."

Watamu Eco Villas

Watamu Eco Villas

📍 Gede Watamu Road, Watamu
★★★ 9.1 (6 reviews)

"This place is great value. It's set back from a busy road about 10 minutes drive from the gorgeous beaches at Watamu. Inside the lush green compound it's very peaceful. There's a nice swimming pool and a lovely open sitting / dining area where you can lounge and play games or read. The rooms are basic but clean and spacious and the bed was really comfortable. The staff are absolutely lovely, nothing is too much trouble. The food is great value as well. If you're looking for a way of experiencing the five star beaches of Watamu but on a tight budget, this is a great choice."

The Charming Lonno Lodge Watamu

The Charming Lonno Lodge Watamu

📍 Kanani RD - Malindi, Watamu
★★★★ 9.7 (43 reviews)

"My 3-night stay at Lonno Lodge was everything I had hoped for my first solo trip! The entire team led by Grace were increadibly warm, attentive and professional, which was a breath of fresh air. I especially loved when they surprised me with cake and singing on my birthday night :)) The deluxe room I stayed in is beautifully designed, as is the entire architecture of the lodge. It's clear that a lot of thought went into making guests feel at home. The food menu is à la carte and the chef never disappointed. Lonno Lodge is intimate and serene, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an escape to breathe and unwind. I will definitely be back soon! Note for future travelers: the pool uses ocean water rather than fresh water. Also, while the Lodge is ocean-facing, it doesn’t have a traditional beach area for lounging. However, you can enjoy walks along the ocean during low tide."

Mvuvi Fishing Lodge

Mvuvi Fishing Lodge

"Our stay in Mvuvi was absolutely wonderful. The staff there were so friendly and I cannot recommend it enough. The breakfast is AMAZING. The location is great and you are in walking distance of Ocean Sports (literally 2 minutes) I will be coming back as soon as I can. Thank you especially to Stella, Diana and Justin!"

"The restaurant was recommended to us by our hostess. The place is very beautiful and well-kept. We ordered an appetizer, three fish-based first courses, a shrimp grill, and desserts, and we spent much less than in Italy, while eating very well."

"All in all we had a fabulous stay in Watamu. Nicholas, our caretaker, was unbelievable! So attentive. Despite the wonderful care we received, our niece had a horrible experience. She had ordered lunch for us and had it delivered to the resort. When the boda delivered our food, the driver was verbally abusive to our niece because he thought he deserved more money. He started yelling insults at her and wouldn’t give her the order. All the while the management and security guard just stood by and watched the entire interaction not interceding whatsoever. This was very bothersome to us. She was very upset by the altercation and we were extremely disappointed by the management and security guard’s lack of help with this situation."

"We stayed with friends (3 couples in total) the last week of March. Journey of over two hours from Mombasa by bus with several final kilometers on a dirt road with bumps and cross-country holes, ideal for those with back pain problems. Externally beautiful structure with well-kept gardens. Rooms with ceiling fan and air conditioning, well maintained with private bathroom with minimum maintenance. Personally I don't go on holiday to eat and drink but if you want to compare the price paid (+ all inclusive) to the quality and, especially, the variety you could certainly expect much more. White beach always clean with sunbed service with vintage mattresses but comfortable to be covered however with towels provided free of charge with potential replacements without problems. Staff and staff always smiling and courteous. Definitely and sensationally negative points: - Of the 4 showers in the (salt) swimming pool, only one works (let's say very, very generously) without being able to get wet enough (for common hygiene) to remove sand and/or sweat before entering the water. afterwards to remove the salt to have a light refreshment (very little water and always hot). If even two are opened at the same time, no more water flows for anyone. When you ask the staff, they tell you that it is always like this and not because there was a fault. We also tried on the beach of the nearby Jumbo Resort and found the same situation. - But the even more serious sore point (in my opinion) is the dining room (where there are only three (3) ceiling fans (apart from another 4 placed above the buffet tables to chase away flies) which favor only 3 / 4 tables with 4 seats each which, consequently, are always the most coveted by almost all customers who, immediately after the first day, realize that it is not possible that in a 4 star resort you have to endure 3 times a day heat of this kind at just as many times of the day. I think that installing several other fans above as many tables would certainly not be a devastating expense for the owner(s) (among other things also of two adjacent resorts (Jumbo / Bravo) and perhaps many customers would have been satisfied. I certainly consider that we are in Kenya and that everything is parameterized to the "African" situation (with all due respect) but if the price is that of a 4 star resort, you have to offer related services and quality and it is not always possible and in any case, having to justify yourself with the same words.... "eh but we are in Africa".... So if, given the usual daily temperatures, you want to sit quietly to eat without suffering from the heat (be careful, I didn't say al fresco , it would be too much) then I advise you to choose another resort. Negative note aside, which however goes beyond the management of the resort, are the "beach boys" (very many) who stay all day between the border of the king"

Kobe Suite Resort Hotels in Watamu

Kobe Suite Resort

"I have never had such a bad experiencing staying anywhere like we did at Kobe. I am shocked, sad and disappointed. When you’re paying a lot you expect a certain standard. Welcoming, friendly staff to make you feel special, you do not get this at Kobe. Nobody told us about the local activities or restaurant you are left to fend for yourself. It’s like staying in an apartment (concrete block room) attached to a busy restaurant filled with people and non hotel guests can use the pool so it gets very busy and if you don’t go early to get a bed you wont get one. Breakfast is the same average spread everyday, supermarket yogurt pots, no granola. Customer service / hospitality was shocking. I am just very very dissapointed and wish I had stayed somewhere else. We have been to two other hotels (cheaper) whilst on our Kenyan coastal trip and both have exceeded expectations except for Kobe. Terrible value for money. Would not recommend, go elsewhere."

Medina Palms Hotels in Watamu

Medina Palms

"The location is great since it’s close to other major resorts. It was the 2nd time to visit the place and unfortunately the service was bad. The lady at the gate was very unpleasant and cold to us. The other security staff also kept following us and watching us which made the experience awkward and uncomfortable. On the other hand the receptionist was very friendly and great since we wanted to book an apartment there. Rufus too at the bar was kind and very professional. He recommended some great cocktails to us. The last time we were there we passed through the pool to the bar but this time the security made us pass a route that is more like a back routine where they transport their deliveries. It’s was a very uncomfortable experience."

Life Resort St. Thomas Royal Palm Hotels in Watamu

Life Resort St. Thomas Royal Palm

"We stayed at Saint Thomas from June 16th to 22nd (an off-season period that allowed us to enjoy pleasant temperatures and very few tourists). We were immediately greeted upon arrival by the legendary entertainer David Baraza Rosso, who, with his excellent Italian and Kenyan heart, acted as our guide on this wonderful adventure. The entire resort pampered us as if we were their own children. We ate delicious and varied dishes every day (much better than many Italian restaurants!) thanks to the chef and waiter who pampered us at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The fruit, a scent and taste you will carry with you forever! The resort's caretakers, including a real Maasai, were our guardian angels, both inside the resort day and night and on the beach, where we could leave our backpacks in their care and enjoy a wonderful stroll on the beach, among thousands of shells and coral washed ashore by the shallows, morning and evening, and framed by coconut trees (you can even request one to drink with a sea view!). The resort's beach is bordered by a fence that the Beach Boys are not allowed to access, but a chat with them offers a different perspective on Kenya's enterprising entrepreneurship and its many stories, which are worth experiencing, but without excess. The rooms are spotless, and the beds are always adorned with fragrant flowers and leaves, thanks to a very kind and smiling lady who takes care of them. Baraza took us on a walking tour of a nearby village, which lacks everything but has given us an unparalleled wealth. We recommend bringing clothes, shoes, and backpacks for adults and children, as you can donate them directly to them, receiving a lesson in humility you'll never forget, and many sincere blessings that filled our hearts. Again with Baraza, aka Rosso, we visited nearby towns on "TukTuk Nico," and it was a fun experience not to be missed! His warmth, kindness, politeness, and professionalism make him the perfect entertainer who makes you feel at home. His contacts (he knows everyone!!!) allow you to visit the most famous places, from Hell's Kitchen and the Geda Ruins with its monkeys, to the Safari at the Voi Lodge, which is impossible to describe in words. Nature is a spectacle that left us speechless! On the way back, we also visited a small school, where the children greeted us and sang songs upon our arrival in different languages. Their eyes are indescribable. In Kenya, every new experience is thrilling. It tears your heart apart, fills it, and puts it back together with a whirlwind of emotions that will leave you feeling a lump in your throat as you say goodbye. Returning so rich, from a country lacking everything we take for granted, is the best life lesson we could have ever learned. Thank you, Kenya! Sante Sana and Hakuna Matata always!"

"A great ambience and the rooms are not squeezed together hence privacy is not compromised. The rooms are big enough and clean. Steady water supply both warm and cold. Clean beddings. Delicious food with many options to pick from. Friendly staffs, always willing to help out. It was a 10/10 for me, my kids and almost all of my colleagues we visited with. The lichthaus restaurant is game changer and every client should purpose to have at least one dinner there"

"We truly enjoyed our stay at The One Watamu. From the moment we arrived, everything felt intentional — calm, stylish, and effortlessly luxurious. The design is stunning, with beautiful finishes and a serene atmosphere that instantly makes you slow down and breathe. Our room had an amazing beach view and was spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully curated, blending modern comfort with the coastal charm that makes Watamu so special. The service was warm and attentive without being overwhelming — we genuinely felt welcomed rather than managed. A special thank you to the manager, Mr. Sudhir, who was so welcoming and made us feel truly special throughout our stay. His personal touch did not go unnoticed. At the restaurant, one of the chefs stood out — the food was exceptional, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. You could really taste the care and skill in every dish. We especially loved how peaceful and intimate the experience felt. Every detail seemed carefully considered. We left feeling refreshed, connected, and already looking forward to going back. Highly recommend for couples looking for a refined, peaceful coastal escape in Watamu."

"Returned to Muvuvi for the fifth time and we were greeted as friends not guests. Stella on reception, always smiling, made us feel at home straight away. Justin does not stand still. Few changes from last year. Far better layout for the dining and kitchen area. Food even better, well done Nzai, Anthony and Eric. Have said it before, if you want total relaxation Muvuvi is the place. Leah looks after the rooms and we had a lovely flower greeting on our bed, lovely gesture. Pool and garden always immaculate, thank you Kapanga. And as for Saudi and Robert who looked after the bar and restaurant super efficient, thanks guys. Justin, you have a “gem” of a boutique hideaway. See you next year Rafiki Anthony Sanders"

"I'm finally writing, regrettably late, a review of this fantastic resort. First of all, I must compliment the staff and everyone else; they were fantastic every step of our stay. But first and foremost, I must mention Giselle, who was truly there for every request. The cuisine is truly excellent; the resort is run by Italians, and the quality of the food reflects that of our beautiful country. The rooms are generously sized and impeccably clean. Everything was perfect!! Thank you so much, I hope to return someday!"
