The hotel's food is excellent; dinner is served as a set menu, while breakfast is a buffet. The rooms are nice with beautiful views, and the staff provides great service. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Zao Ropeway!"

"Even though the property is old, but it’s very well maintained and clean. Room is spacious even for 3 adults. The hotel itself and rooms are great, staffs are friendly etc, no complaints there. However, locations isn’t the best. It is a 15mins walk to Yamagata Station and considering buses isn’t as frequent in this part of Japan, it’s gonna be a problem."

"The location is extremely convenient - just a few minutes' walk from Yamagata Station and the bus stop for Zao Onsen (to which you should get well in advance, by the way). The room was very good, with all amenities in good condition. The staff was very kind, and it is possible to store your luggage for free for a while. Note that there is a breakfast (for 800 yen), but you need to inform the hotel by 20:00 PM the previous day. Overall, great value for money."

"We had an amazing ryokan stay at Takamiya with its rich history and culture. Our room was on the highest floor, which gave us beautiful views of the town. The food prepared was delicious and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The ryokan is located on top of a flight of stairs, and there are only stairs within the complex, so those with mobility issues would face difficulties. The staff will help out with your luggages during check-in and check-out though, and all amenities are provided for!"

The hotel provides a free private hot spring bath, which feels average, but I went to use the public open-air hot spring the next day, which was a better choice! At night, there are not many commercial activities near Zao, and there are not many restaurant options. It is a better choice to stay in the hotel and have a banquet meal."

"Room was basic but I think it’s okay for its price. Staff at the reception are nice. The drain in the restroom has a bad odor so I usually just shower in the public onsen. Around a 9-min walk to the station which was convenient. Overall I had a good night sleep and the place is clean."

"The hotel is about 600 meters away from Yamagata Station (you have to go through the underground tunnel to get there). It is the only hotel near the station that has a hot spring pool. After checking in, there is a Welcome Bar next to the counter, which offers a wide range of coffee/beverages and alcoholic beverages. The room is small but has everything you need. There are also accommodation supplies on the first floor, with various types of pillows for you to use. There are also three sets of washing machines/dryers (each costs 100 yen), which is really convenient for long-term travelers! Although there are not many types of breakfast, the taste is very authentic. It is only served until 9 o'clock. After 8:30, there are fewer people eating, so some dishes (such as bread) are not replenished. It is recommended that guests take a seat early to enjoy."

"A highly recommended hotel, except for the slightly expensive price, there is no other problem 🤣 The hotel is within walking distance to the ski resort, and the staff will drive to pick you up, 2 minutes by car. The food is delicious and you won't get tired of eating it for 4 days. The boutique sells exquisite and cute things, and the price is reasonable. I regret buying less! The hot spring is very comfortable and clean! I would like to thank every staff member in particular, they are very enthusiastic and sincere, very helpful, and touching! I will stay here again next time I come to Zao❤️"
