"Fantastic hotel! Location right by the ocean, free shuttle bus to the center of Funchal, ala carte themed restaurant, delicious food - varied and a lot of seafood, all inclusive works flawlessly - I don't know which sangria is better red or white. Rooms spotlessly clean functional large bathroom. In the evening, animations including Portuguese folklore - I greet Filip from the reception who stole the show :) Service at the highest level - If Madeira is for sure RIU. The view from the restaurant from the terrace is great. Not far from the hotel at the end of the boardwalk, you can go up the cliff off the trail."

"This hotel was a huge disappointment. I have no idea how it got a 4-star rating. On the positive side, the view is lovely, and the room was clean (apart from the ants everywhere). The staff answered questions, breakfast was decent, and the gym was incredibly well-equipped, though I couldn't use it because the ventilation was completely non-existent. I felt like I'd pass out after just 10 minutes of checking out the equipment. As for the negatives: the room lacked basic amenities (only soap was provided). If you go to reception and ask for anything, they'll send you to the gym where you can get slippers for 5 euros a day. On the first night, the air conditioning wasn't cooling, and despite it being January, it was incredibly stuffy. There were ants all over the room, even in the fridge. Check-in was a nightmare – if you arrive by car and park in the always-full lot in front of the hotel to unload your luggage, the staff won't allow it, let alone offer to help. They told me I could only leave the car for 5 minutes while they processed papers, but wouldn't let me take my bags to the room, nor did they offer to have hotel staff bring them up while I looked for parking. They told me to leave my belongings in the lobby and go find paid parking wherever I could. They gave me a confusing parking map that was impossible to decipher in a second, and said the nearest parking was by a shop, where there were no free spots. I ended up driving around the area. They never mentioned the parking on the other side of the hotel, which offers easy access directly to the lifts. So, if you decide to stay here, there are both free and paid parking spots down the street to the right of the hotel (the paid parking is cheap)."

Sentido Galomar - Adults Only

"We had an incredible experience at Sentido Galomar; the staff were always helpful and friendly. The hotel has access to a Lido which leads to a nature reserve which is great for snorkelling. We went B&B and the breakfast was excellent; there was a lot on offer both hot and cold. The bar where you have breakfast overlooks the sea and was a highlight of the holiday. The pool is lovely and relaxing. There isn’t any music played around the pool which makes it tranquil and serene. The people who visit there are quiet and active so there are always sunbeds available. If you hire a car there is street parking and the hotel has some free parking but this is all dependent on availability; we were always able to get parked close to the hotel. We used the gym access at Galosol and used the bar there for lunch. Locally there are LOTS of brilliant restaurants to choose from. We want to go back in the future."

Quinta Splendida Wellness & Botanical Garden

"I booked Quinta Splendida after reading all the great reviews on Trip Advisor, and we were not disappointed. This is a special resort, set in beautiful gardens with the most amazing spa setting. The staff are all attentive and so friendly. The breakfasts are amazing, so much fresh fruit, vegetables and variety (I'm vegetarian). We ate in the evening twice and chose the al la cart menu, and were not disappointed. The apartments look a little dated but when you read the history of this place, you realise it's this way for a good reason. There is no AC, and this might be a necessity for some, and perhaps in the peak summer months, it might just get too hot indoors. For us in September, it was perfect. The gardens are amazing, so relaxing and the view of the ocean takes your breath away. The only gripe (if I can call it that), is the issue of parasols around the pool area. I'm unsure why this has not been addressed by management. There was very limited parasols that actually worked so for others like me who had none, it was unbearable to sit poolside during the daytime when the sun is at its peak. What I found quite sad, was that some other holiday makers actually took 'their' parasol back to their apartment ready for when they used it next....selfish I think. Fortunately we were out for a few days, so didn't have the time to stay poolside. But for others who just wanted to chill by the pool, I'm sure it was not comfortable. Apart from this, everything else was perfect and I would still recommend this place to others. Our visit to Funchal was good (cable cars etc.), but we couldn't wait to get back to the resort 😊"
