Hotel Diego de Almagro San Pedro de Atacama ★★★★

📍 Toconao 460, San Pedro De Atacama

"The location is very convenient, very close to the main street! The Wi-Fi in the rooms is very weak (at least in my room, I couldn't connect); it's only stable in the lobby. The hotel is quite large, and many people use the swimming pool. They provide two bottles of water, and the breakfast is quite substantial."

"The hotel is a three-minute walk from the main street, making transportation and dining very convenient. The hotel is very quiet. Walking from the earthy streets into the hotel feels like stepping into another world. The front desk service is excellent, helping to arrange taxis and provide tourist advice. Breakfast is simple, but includes freshly squeezed juice and a fried egg with soy sauce. The only downside is that the room could use better soundproofing; I often heard Spanish from the room next door."

Nayara Alto Atacama Hotels in El Loa

Nayara Alto Atacama

"Our stay at Nayara Alto Atacama was a really memorable experience overall. The rooms were okay—not overly luxurious—but they were fully equipped with everything we needed. We especially appreciated how accommodating the hotel was in arranging an extra bed in our room, which made our stay much more comfortable. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. We were greeted with a refreshing welcome drink and immediately taken care of by Francis and Eros, who were both absolutely amazing throughout our stay. Their attentiveness and warmth really stood out. As vegans, we’re always a bit cautious when traveling, but Eros and Tamara truly went above and beyond to accommodate all of our dietary needs. Their effort and care made a huge difference and didn’t go unnoticed. The food at the hotel was okay—definitely decent, but we felt it could have been a bit more flavorful. That said, there are plenty of great restaurant options in the nearby village, just about a 15-minute drive away. The hotel offers shuttle service, which is super convenient and makes exploring very easy. We also treated ourselves to massages at the spa, which were fantastic. The spa amenities, along with the wide range of excursions offered by the hotel, added a lot to the overall experience and made the trip feel special and adventurous. We would definitely recommend staying here. And if you’re lucky enough to be helped by Eros, you’re in for an especially great experience."

"Homely lodging. We picked this place for its quietness. It can be a little out of the way, but as we drive it wasnt a problem.shuttle service to town is provided at intervals. Service was sub-par as there were some gaps in what i would consider as being hospitable. There's a small pool and hammock to lounge around, if the weather is right. What light up my day was the dogs/cats staying there. Good place for animal lovers. :)"

"Not sure how TA’s algorithm cites this as 4th best accommodation in San Pedro, bc I have it as #1. Here goes my review: First, the four excursions run by the in-house guides/drivers. We had a Chilean named Sebastian. He is a college grad who had knowledge of geography, history, knew the names and heights of all the 15+ volcanoes nearby, all of the birds (important bc my husband is an avid birder). His knowledge was matched by his enthusiasm. We experienced a fantastic 4 day stay in a magical part of the world. It’s unlike anything we’ve seen before with 16000 foot snow capped volcanoes (active and puffing away), salt flats at 7500 feet with flocks of flamingos eating brine shrimp and a geyser field where we hiked at 14000 feet. We drove for miles without seeing other humans and very few vehicles. We were far outnumbered by wild llamas, donkeys and vicuñas. Amazing. The lodge was luxurious and beautifully fit into the surrounding countryside. I read that they reopened in March 2025 after a $20m renovation. They used beautiful building materials and a lovely design aesthetic that gives a relaxing atmosphere, especially after a long day of hiking or driving between sites. Endemic plants around the property are labeled and some are used to flavor the food. I used the small but adequate gym, but didn’t have a chance to go to the spa. The central area is lovely and a perfect place to unwind, meet other guests and have a drink. The bartender, also Sebastian, was inventing new and fun concepts each evening. Food was excellent, all three meals, since we ate all meals there. Lunch and dinner had several choices offered each day as well as a set list of entrees which were offered consistently. Portions were good, but not huge, we appreciated that. An exception to quantity was BBQ night where they featured a lamb grilled outdoors as well as some other food. We didn’t have room for dessert! Wines were excellent and local to Chile. Our room was beautifully appointed and so comfortable. We had a sitting area and a private outdoor plunge pool. Key to our experience was the questionnaire we filled out in advance for the team. I mentioned that my husband was a birder and they took that and a few of the other nuances into consideration as they planned our itinerary and our pairing with Sebastián as our guide. This planning was part of the success? Thank you to a very special and friendly staff who shared such a lovely part of the world with us."

"Nice little guesthouse in San Pedro. Family operated, and the owner Tote went out of his way to make us feel comfortable. The owner runs a tour company with affordable tours to most if not all the main attractions accessible from Atacama. We did not need to book tours since we had already rented a vehicle. Yet Tote asked us how many days we had and he patiently spent time giving us a very sound, no nonsense schedule to make the best of our time there. We did take the stargazing tour. Tote provided telescopes and great astronomical knowledge. With little light pollution away from the town and the thin atmosphere at 8,000ft (~2,500m) elevation, it is definitely worth it. Breakfast is included in the reservation. Rooms: The bed was extremely comfortable. The shower had hot water and good pressure. Available Wifi works well and is fast. The rooms are not climate-controlled so I guess it could get hot in summer (our visit was in springtime with night temperatures in the 10s C (50s F). Location: The guesthouse is in a quiet part of town, about a 20-minute walk from the busy Caracoles Avenue downtown, out of reach from the city noises at nigh time. There's plenty grocery stores and a few local restaurants within a short walk away. Safety: The host was very hospitable and this area of town is quiet. We never felt the was reason for safety concerns. Conclusion: Overall it's an excellent value and for us it would be a no-brainer to stay again if and when we return to San Pedro."

"The hotel is located on a street parallel to the main shopping and restaurant area, Karakoles Street, a couple of minutes' walk from the White Church. There are a few rooms, about ten, I think. They are comfortable. There's no air conditioning, but it's not necessary, as the city gets chilly at night. During the day, if you're staying in, a ceiling fan will suffice. The bathroom is spacious, with a comfortable shower area. Breakfasts are simple, but you won't go hungry. You can order scrambled eggs or an omelet. They also offer cold meats and cheeses, yogurt, cereal, fruit, and pastries. The pastries aren't the small ones you'd usually find in hotels, but the kind you'd find in restaurants. And they're delicious. Incidentally, if you have an early morning excursion, before breakfast, you'll be offered a lunchbox. But the most important thing is the hotel staff. They're kind, welcoming, and customer-focused. They'll explain everything and help you out. If you've already checked out of your room but have returned from an excursion and want to take a shower, you'll be offered a dedicated shower room and provided with towels, soap, and shampoo. Overall, the hotel is very good and I recommend it."

"The hotel is a faener hotel. It is from Monday to Thursday. I was a Saturday. I arrived at 21:15 and the restaurant had closed. Null option to eat something. Null empathy to make an order from outside. Reception people. - Bad. - zero empathy before reaching and having not eaten anything. - and then in the room no even water, a fridge bar without anything. - I came 3-4 times but worse and worse. - the tapes are observed without maintenance (cleanness). - in the morning at breakfast the egg was finished and it took about 15 minutes to replace. - I really don't come back. - other household topics: the shower is swept (without rubber); few sticks; the desk had no paper, a pencil, nothing. - in summary, no REVENUE MAS."

"Very quiet and clean place, quite good breakfast, very attentive staff, pool suitable for combating the heat of the day, especially when returning from tours. Kitchen available, laundry service (additional cost). Wi-Fi only at reception. It's a 10-minute walk to downtown San Pedro. I highly recommend it."

"The receptionist was cold and expressionless and reminded me of an immigration official. We had to labor through her lack of English to get information we needed. She omitted to inform us about the swimming pool nor provided us with a WIFI password. She barely looked up as we checked out. No tea of coffee making was provided in the room. The dark breakfast area resembled a room from Dracula's castle. To add to it, the breakfast staff were dressed in black! We had some problems with the room heating but this was promptly fixed. Not a single soul in this establishment could speak a word of English."

Hotel Diego de Almagro San Pedro de Atacama ★★★★
"The hotel covers a large area, but the roads in Atacama are all paved with gravel, and this hotel is no exception. The hotel does not have a lobby boy. For people dragging suitcases, the large area is a disaster, which is laborious and requires the wheels of the suitcases. The family room has 5 beds, but only provides accommodation options for 2 people. An additional person will cost $40. Breakfast is provided, but it is later than we need. If you want to eat breakfast in advance, you need to purchase extra. Overall average."

"One of the main drawbacks was that the toilet and shower were located outside. In cold weather this is very uncomfortable and there is risk of catching a cold. On the positive side I really appreciated the heated mattress. With temperature below freezing at night it was an absolute lifesaver."

"This hotel is quite good in San Pedro. It's very close to the center of town, only about a five-minute walk away. Transportation is pretty good, and it's also the central pick-up and drop-off point for local travel agencies, so at least that's where they focus their attention. The hotel's architecture is also quite nice. The only downside was the power outage for an hour on our first night. The restaurant is also very good, with delicious food. The desert-style walls are unique, and the heating is adequate."

"The experience was very bad. The water was cold, it never came out hot. No one offered me a solution. The staff was very unwilling to resolve the issue. I won't return and don't recommend it. It's unbelievable that there's no hot water in an international hotel."
