"I seldom share my experiences in Chinese hotels. That is a mistake. China’s hotels are among the world’s most comfortable and reasonably priced. I am now in the home of chairman Mao and staying at the very comfortable Jianguo hotel. After arriving in Shaoshan (over 38 years since my last visit), I have been overwhelmed by the friendliness of the local people and the staff at the Jianguo hotel. In what may be called one of the more politically important destinations in China, I have found open arms and smiles. My American friends can learn something from this. I am clearly not a local but, even during this time of geopolitical tension, I am receiving nothing less than genuine friendship, no animosity, and this makes me feel optimistic. I hope that we in the United States can learn from the Chinese people’s example. Thank you, everybody at the Jianguo Hotel. including Liu Zheng who personally took me to Chairman Mao’s residence this morning. He offered to do this while eating dinner in the hotel restaurant last night (please try the 香椿拌豆腐). He introduced me to the park’s director and facilitated everything to make this visit so special. Liu Jingli just treated me to lunch and is driving me to the train station. This kind of service I’ve never received before in my hundred plus countries and I think that it is important that we share these stories with the outside world. This hospitality, too, is an essential part of China. (I would argue it is even more real than the news stories we receive out of Washington DC.) Chairman Mao’s home will forever echo with not just memories of the past but optimism of a more respectful and inclusive future."

"I originally thought that Shaoshan Hotel was a government-type reception hotel, and the sanitation and rooms should be very good. Booked a deluxe room. There is no luxurious feel at all, the carpets are dirty, the bedding is uncomfortable, and the lights are dim. Don't be fooled by the photos, the room facilities are not well maintained. Breakfast ended at 9 o'clock, and when we arrived at 8:30, there was nothing to eat. The breakfast in this old hotel should be very good. Very poor value for money. The advantage is that the location is very good. When you go out, you can walk a few steps to Mao Zedong Square and the Memorial Hall, as well as Mao Zedong's former residence, which is very close on foot. Parking is easy."

We made a special trip to Shaoshan to visit Chairman Mao's former residence and settled in this hotel. The hotel has a superior geographical location, very close to Chairman Mao's former residence, and there are food streets around. The front desk girl's service is very enthusiastic and in place. She also upgraded the room. You can watch the short video. The room facilities are complete, clean and tidy, the mattress is very comfortable, the sound insulation effect is good, especially the hot water is very large. After playing, take a hot shower, it is very refreshing, and the breakfast is also good. Recommended to everyone!"

"This stay experience is really far beyond expectations, I must give this hotel a big praise! From the moment of arrival, the service is very intimate. The hotel specially arranged a special car transfer. The driver was warm and thoughtful. After arriving at night, it saved a lot of fatigue from boats and cars. When I checked in, the front desk staff also surprised me to upgrade the room type for free. This heart was very touched. When I walked into the room, the first impression was that it was clean and tidy, the bedding was soft and skin-friendly, and there was no smell, which made people relax instantly.
