"An absolutely delightful hotel, comfortable in its Portuguese heritage – it's an old Portuguese home – with huge original rooms adapted for guests and a newer wing. Don't expect shiny surfaces – the building has stood for several hundred years. Instead, look for the range of period architectural features and quirky corners. The staff ranged from bewildered to eager to help in any way they could. Special thanks to Himanshu for looking after us so well. The bathroom in the enclosed veranda in the original house was large enough to entertain in, but the shower was a baroque excess of form over function, with high-pressure spray jets (no shower curtain to stop the water), a giant raincloud-like shower rose big enough to accommodate you and your close friend with room to swing a cat, and swirly water jets that cover the floor and soak the bathmat. The room safe was so secure that no one on site had the code for it. The restaurant offers a wide selection of dishes – make sure you go fo the Indian menu, though, as the Western menu is rather bland. The food was all good. The restaurant has posted hours, but not all of the staff are aware of them. The room was not particularly soundproof or lightproof, so take ear plugs and an eye mask."
