Amazing
GGuest UserThe feeling of vacation is full when you enter the hotel. The room is OK but there are a lot of bugs. There are 3 restaurants in the hotel, Italian, Asian and buffet. There are some tourist restaurants around the hotel, which are not recommended. It takes about half an hour to drive to any restaurant that is worth your attention. When you check out, you should take a good look at the bill. There are several extra items such as turtle protection fees for no reason.
JJiajiatangbaoNo wonder the president cut the ribbon at the hotel's opening. It's probably the most luxurious and modern resort in Sri Lanka right now. Perhaps because I booked a pool villa, the room experience was indeed excellent. It's highly modernized. Even the outdoor breakfast area wasn't too hot. The staff are very attentive; in the evening, they proactively offered a blanket if they saw someone putting on clothes indoors.
Going to the beach is only allowed twice a day, and you must be accompanied by staff because wildlife passes through the national park. But it's definitely worth a visit; the scenery of the sand dunes and the sea of sky is absolutely stunning and magnificent.
MM445002****As one of Sri Lanka's top luxury hotels, the Shangri-La maintains excellent hygiene and safety standards; sniffer dogs conduct luggage searches before entry. The Shangri-La's breakfast and dinner buffets are well-suited to Chinese tastes. The beach is also beautiful.
RRavindranThe owner was very helpful. He was eager for me to sign up with a Safari tour that he organized and said that I could check out later which I appreciated. The tour was a little disappointing though as the breakfast he mentioned was not what I received. I was.however happy that he prepared some food when I arrived as I said that I wouldn't be able to eat the hotel breakfast that I paid for. The sheets had marks on them and I saw big cockroaches. There was no air-conditioning so the room was a bit stuffy.
GGuest UserWe booked this at the last minute due to a change of plans and so just went by the previous reviews but we are so glad we did! It’s a small hotel but with lovely large rooms with private pools. We loved the sunset walk to the beautiful wild beach and our trip to Yala. We didn’t have any problems with wildlife in the shower and loved the feeling of being in such a natural environment. The real selling point of the hotel however is their staff and every one of them went out of their way to help us have a great stay.
Thanks again!
CChris&MariaThis hotel is located in a remote area, which turned out to be a huge advantage. The peaceful surroundings allowed us to completely unwind without any distractions — it truly felt like we had the entire place to ourselves.
Right from the start, we were treated to a lovely surprise: a room upgrade with a stunning ocean view. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the waves was pure magic.
The food was a highlight — beautifully flavored local dishes with a creative twist. Knowing that everything was sourced sustainably from local farmers made the experience even more meaningful.
What really stood out was the hospitality. During my stay, I sprained my ankle, and the staff went above and beyond to take care of me. A special thank you to Lakshitha, who was incredibly kind and attentive throughout my recovery.
This is a place where nature, comfort, and genuine care come together. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to disconnect, recharge, and experience authentic Sri Lankan warmth.
GGuest UserHidden away in the jungle, the hotel is beautiful and peaceful. We stayed in the king suite with our own pool and spa and it was the perfect spot to wind down after an active week of climbing, walking and safaris.
We happened to be the only guests on our night stay and everyone made it a lovely experience with taking us for a walk around the lake to see the local wildlife and cooking a bbq right outside our room.
Will definitely stay here again should I find myself back in Sri Lanka.
GGuest UserSet a quadruple room, in fact, can live 6 or 7 people no problem 😄 The hotel is located on the edge of the lake. Since we are going to Yarra National Park to see wildlife the next morning, the store packed breakfast for us very early.
JJoe0412A wonderful family run establishment. I was very ill during my stay and the owner took me to his doctor friend and pharmacy and took care of me.
The room is comfortable and it has a nice sitting balcony. Its very very quiet and easy to sleep. Its 10 mins by tuk tuk to tissa lake and the safari is not far. They offer safari services although I didn't use. Wifi available. Lots of plugs in the room.
Breakfast is flexible and accommodating.
The family is so kind and warm. Highly recommend staying here.
GGuest UserWe stayed here before a trip to Yala national park. The hotel property is quaint and charming. We took pictures of monkeys and peacocks near the hotel’s river bank and trees.
Our room was basic, but clean and comfortable. The shower had hot water, but barely any pressure available. Internet was inconsistent and did not work for the first few hours.
The staff were friendly and did their best to communicate with us and meet our needs. They helped us arrange private transportation to and from the international airport and local safaris with third-parties.
We had two meals cooked by our hostess. Our first meal there was excellent with many fresh, local dishes. However, the second meal was simply rice and overcooked chicken, which we struggled to finish. That meal was double the first meal’s price. Also, meal prices were not disclosed until checkout, when we were surprised with a disproportionately large bill, charging us equally for our two meals as our two-night stay in the room. Our fault for not asking first, I suppose, but I felt taken advantage of and it soured our experience.
