This hotel is really, really good! The location and service are both top-notch! I hesitated a lot because it was a bit pricier than I expected (it was National Day, so there was a premium), but it was truly the best choice I made!
First, the accommodation! It was clean and the view was amazing. I arrived early for check-in and asked if they could give me a room with a good view. They found me the best view room comparable to the one I paid for 😆
Next, the location! Nanjing East Road and People's Square are right in front, which was great for tours (many meeting points are at People's Square) and shopping. Plus, many famous restaurants (hot mala ban on social media, Lu Xuxu butter cakes, crab roe and shrimp dumplings, milk tea, etc.) delivered, and a robot brought the food to my door, allowing me to try a variety of dishes. It saved so much time, it was amazing!

My friend was only staying in Shanghai for a day, so naturally, I wanted to give her an itinerary that offered both 'old-world charm and new-age chic.' While passing Nanjing West Road recently, this InterContinental 'Luxury Collection' hotel immediately caught my eye. And just as I expected, critical as she is, she complimented my taste the moment she walked in.
Its most appealing features are its convenient location and its ability to be a tranquil oasis amidst the bustle: step outside, and you're on the vibrant Nanjing Road; turn around, and you're in the quiet serenity of a residential area. My friend said the elevator decor instantly made her feel like she'd 'traveled through time,' and that unique 'Haitian style' evoked long-lost memories of Shanghai. She had originally come to sightsee but happily spent most of her day lingering at the hotel.
What she loved most were the terrace and the restaurant. On a summer evening, the breeze felt just like those childhood nights spent cooling off in the alleyways – she used to live in a Shikumen house. She remarked, 'If only I could lie in a wicker chair, fan myself with a palm-leaf fan, eat watermelon, and watch an outdoor movie, that would be truly divine.' She also adored the red hanging ornament in the lobby; it was vibrantly bright, yet its glass texture gave it a lively feel, much like Shanghai's character – passionate yet steady, with a touch of lightness within its composure.
The food did not disappoint either. I pushed her to try the Shiqipu Noodle Restaurant, where the owner asked in Shanghainese, 'Mi dao ai hao fa?' (Is the taste good?), and she smiled and replied, 'Authentic,' instantly tearing up. She specifically bought the sweet variety of butterfly pastries from the International Hotel – saying 'only sweet is truly Shanghai.' Her only regret was: having stayed in too many foreign-style grand hotels, this time, with Shanghai elements everywhere and Shanghai flavors in every bite, it was 'just missing the sound of Shanghai.' Perhaps the cicada chirps in the alleyways and the hawkers' cries from the Shikumen are the hometown sounds she truly yearns to hear.
However, she has already declared: the next time she returns, this will be her chosen hotel, and she plans to visit all the routes I arranged. I believe the charm of Shanghai has never been in its superficial glamour but in its ability to always find the most fitting way to blend East and West, ancient and modern, living as a unique 'Haipai' (Shanghai style). This is also the root that every Shanghainese person cherishes.
Below are the three half-day itinerary options I created for her, which I've also compiled here, hoping they might help someone else:
Option 1 · A Stroll Through Old Shanghai Charm
Start from the hotel's main entrance on Fengyang Road and turn into Huanghe Road. The Changjiang Building and Changjiang Theater were the last residences of Eileen Chang; Huanghe Road is the origin of 'Blossoms Shanghai' (Fan Hua). The International Hotel is where her mother and aunt once stayed; next to it, the Sports Museum is rumored to be where Eileen Chang used to study. Diagonally opposite is the History Museum (formerly the Racecourse); the East Wing houses the old bronze lions from the HSBC Building on the Bund, and the 'Echoes of Shanghai' exhibition in the West Wing happens to talk about the past of Fengyang Road. The ornate windows of the West Wing and the Changjiang Building, mirroring the hotel's architecture, perfectly showcase the most fashionable Art Deco style of the 1930s.
Option 2 · Tracing Red Memories
Walk along Chengdu North Road to the Secretariat of the China Labor Movement, to see how Shanghai workers united into a revolutionary force; then visit the former site of the Songpu Special Committee. Go to the Sihang Warehouse to hear the echoes of the Battle of Shanghai and see the bullet-riddled walls recount the tragedy of that year. At night, turn into Xiang Kang Li on Xinchang Road to find the former site of the CCP Central Committee's secret printing press; on Nanjing West Road, there is also the former site of the Soviet Liaison Office, where, amidst the flickering lights, memories of the past reside.
Option 3 · Modern and Retro Collision
The LV 'Big Boat' on Nanjing West Road is currently a popular spot for photos; after visiting, turn into Wujiang Road for shopping and dining, and further ahead is Zhangyuan Shikumen – where new trends emerge in old alleyways, perfect for capturing stunning photos.
Food Tips
· The hotel restaurant's afternoon tea set is exquisite and picture-perfect.
· Shiqipu Noodle Restaurant (the owner's Shanghainese is a living signboard).
· Deda Western Restaurant and Gongdelin Noodle Restaurant, each with its own charm.

· Chongming cuisine on the second floor of the hotel, authentic local flavors.

It's within walking distance of Yuyuan Garden Metro Station, Yuyuan Tourist Mart, the Bund waterfront promenade, and Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street. The hotel is adjacent to the Bund Center, whose lotus-shaped roof acts like a crown for the hotel, giving it a grand and recognizable exterior.
The lobby atrium is a design highlight, featuring a 26-meter-high glass ceiling and a glass 'sky escalator' connecting the first to fourth floors, seamlessly integrating natural light – it's absolutely beautiful. The Lobby Lounge, located in the atrium, is surrounded by palm trees and flowing water, evoking a Southeast Asian vibe. It subtly encourages visitors to pause, enjoy the scenery, chat, and sip tea – truly a delightful way to live.
While the guest rooms aren't huge, their overall layout is well-planned and facilities are comprehensive. The Heavenly Bed is truly captivating; the soft, delicate, clean, and skin-friendly bedding enhances a deeply immersive dream. Three floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic city views – the more you stay, the more you'll love it!
The Stage restaurant offers a bountiful buffet breakfast, with both Chinese and Western options. The omelets are shaped like egg dumplings and taste great, the croissants are quite good, the tofu pudding is delicious, and the latte coffee is also pleasant. We didn't get to try the Chinese restaurant as it was hosting a wedding banquet.

This is our second time staying at this hotel! It’s a fantastic place with very friendly staff. We even had the pleasure of meeting Alena at the front desk, who speaks Russian. She gave us a detailed guide on how to access the 30th-floor Lounge bar, which was a complimentary gift from the hotel. Breakfast was top-notch as always, featuring a great variety of pastries, fruits, salads, porridge, and meats—even the pickiest guests will find something they love. Our room was on the 20th floor with a view of the Oriental Pearl Tower! It’s stunning both during the day and at night when the lights are on. A perfect National Day holiday experience, highly recommend Anandi Hotel Shanghai!
I came for a relaxing and healing break during the National Day holiday, and the entire stay exceeded my expectations. The hotel environment is secluded and peaceful, and the wooden guest rooms are warm and soothing. The Eath mattress, various pillows, sleep aid device, and wellness bath sachets were all provided, ensuring an exceptionally sound night's sleep. The balcony offered a wide view, and the hot tub was incredibly relaxing and therapeutic. The Hengyue Xinshe hot spring, singing bowls, and yoga workshop activities were abundant, and there were also special craft experiences during the National Day, creating a strong holiday atmosphere.
I must especially praise our dedicated butler, Yoyo! Despite the large number of guests during the holiday, Yoyo was attentive and thoughtful throughout. During check-in, she meticulously explained all the healing facilities in the room and provided a personalized wellness tea based on my constitution. I was very satisfied with my stay this time. The hotel is located directly opposite a huge shopping mall, which is beautiful for taking photos. The room was comfortable and spacious, and after a tiring day, I slept really well at night. The hotel offers free hot springs ♨️ access. After exploring Disneyland, my legs were exhausted, so I went straight to soak in the hot springs to relieve them. The hot spring facility had all the toiletries you could need. After bathing, I could complete my washing there and then return directly to my room to rest, which was fantastic! The young man with glasses provided excellent service, helping me with my luggage to the room and then carrying it to the car when I checked out. There was also a handsome waiter who escorted us to the hot spring entrance. The front desk lady had a great service attitude. The hotel offers a free shuttle service to Disneyland, which requires booking 2-3 hours in advance. This was incredibly convenient for my two-day visit to Disneyland.
The hotel breakfast was also very rich, with many food options, including freshly cooked rice noodles and wontons, which tasted quite good!
The only issue was that the sockets for the kettle, coffee machine, and TV had no power. I had to use the socket by the sink to boil water. I informed the front desk, and they said someone would come to check, but when I returned to the hotel in the evening, it still wasn't fixed. However, it didn't affect my 3-day stay. No TV? No problem, I just lay in bed and played on my phone!

I stayed one night at Yuansu Hot Spring Hotel in Shanghai, and the overall experience was better than expected.
The room was very clean and well-equipped, making for a comfortable stay. My favorite part was the private hot spring tub in the room. After returning in the evening, I could soak anytime without needing a reservation, which offered excellent privacy.
The hotel also offers therapeutic activities like meditation. Unfortunately, I only stayed one night and didn't have much time to try them, but they seemed quite unique.
Parking at the hotel is very convenient, with plenty of spaces available. If you're driving, you basically don't have to worry about parking.
The hotel staff provided excellent and patient service. They were always quick to help with any issues and spoke very kindly.

The hotel room facilities are good, with everything that should be there. The smoking area outside is also very beautiful. The breakfast in the morning is very good, it is self-service, and there are freshly made noodles to eat. If you are thirsty, you can go downstairs at any time to have some drinks and fruits, which are all included in the hotel package. Why the deduction? Like many reviews wrote, the water in the pool here is really too hot. It is the hottest of all the hot springs in Shanghai that I have been to. It feels too hot. I saw that several children could hardly soak in the water for a while. I don’t know why so many people complained. I saw that the management was still saying in the comments that it met the hot spring temperature requirements. What they said is that your water is too hot, and they are giving you suggestions. I visited Qianyun after looking at dozens of places in the area. I wanted to be away from typical city area, have a bathtub and nice outdoor area, and with easy access to Shanghai Disneyland. Qianyun met all those requirements and more! The location was immediately very serene and surrounded by forest, but still easy to access lots of waimai food delivery options. They were also very kind and proactive about sharing information about local restaurants and activities, and provide a breakfast and evening fruit every day. They offer free car transport to Disneyland, and I was excited to use this service but I ended up enjoying my time at the hotel so much that I opted to stay and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere instead! The hotel pets are so friendly - within five minutes the little cat Banban was on my lap and purring.
The room itself is decorated very nicely with all the amenities you need. The bathtub inside is very comfortable and I loved the outdoor hot spring tub as well. The attention to hygiene is very highly emphasized and I was impressed with how clean and luxurious everything felt.
I will definitely visit again and recommend to anyone hoping to have a convenient getaway from the city, or who would like to be near to Disneyland Resort while also experiencing a more peaceful area and for a good economical value and high quality service!

The room had a direct view of the Oriental Pearl Tower, which was absolutely stunning when opening the curtains in the morning. The hotel also provided a welcome fruit platter and called to invite me to the Executive Lounge for afternoon tea and dinner, but unfortunately, I was too pressed for time to make it. I stayed for four nights in total—two booked through the CMB app and two through Ctrip. The Ctrip nights were separate bookings; the first didn't include breakfast, while the last one did. I wasn't entirely sure if the lounge invitation was because of the breakfast booking, which was a bit confusing. Overall, though, the service was fantastic. This is my second time staying at this hotel. I booked an executive twin room with my child. The room was clean, and its location right in the heart of Jing'an Temple makes dining and taking the subway incredibly convenient. I first booked it because of its proximity to Eileen Chang's former residence, Changde Apartment, and I booked it again because of its excellent location and service. My child particularly loves the hot spring pool here. We also ate several meals at CP Jing'an this time, which was very convenient.
However, you need to watch the time when taking a taxi. I noticed during this trip to Shanghai that Jing'an Temple is really congested. Getting to the hotel was a constant jam, and the ride to the airport was also quite slow. The hotel breakfast is excellent! There's a wide variety, and I always eat too much. Check-out time is also very flexible; my flight was at 4 PM, and the front desk staff kindly extended our check-out to 1:30 PM, which was fantastic service. Two nights at The Langham Xintiandi. The hotel's location is its biggest advantage, within walking distance to Nanjing Road and Zhangyuan, and very convenient for exploring Xintiandi (for me, familiar with the area, and the cool autumn weather was perfect for 'city working'). We received welcome fruits upon check-in, a nice touch.
However, the entrance lobby felt a bit cramped, which isn't entirely due to the plot size, giving a less-than-ideal first impression. The interior lounge area, though, is brilliantly designed. Staying at The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai once again reminded me of what it means to be the 'benchmark of Ritz-Carlton excellence.' While the building itself shows signs of age, it's precisely this history that lends it a sophisticated, old-money elegance. The location is absolutely impeccable, making it incredibly convenient to get around, and the surrounding dining options are so abundant, it's hard to choose!
I especially want to thank the Grace team for their incredibly warm service. Every detail truly embodied the Ritz-Carlton's hospitality philosophy – it felt both genuinely warm and incredibly refined. With the Shanghai Rolex Masters happening, the hotel was particularly lively. It just goes to show that even an 'old Ferrari' (referring to the classic Ritz-Carlton brand) still attracts so many guests. And that lion statue was just too enthusiastic; it's become a网红 hotspot for photos, with everyone wanting to snap a picture with it as they pass by.

A true hidden gem in this modern high-rise. The hotel is in the same building as the Novotel – specifically, Citadines occupies floors 15 to 18. The check-in experience is an absolute 10/10: the team is incredibly welcoming, offering coffee, tea, and small pastries, plus there's a very pleasant coworking space.
The rooms feel like compact studios with a kitchenette: microwave, washing machine, dryer, a full-sized fridge, and lots of storage. The bed and pillows are supremely cozy, and the shower… just wow! The water pressure is outstanding – truly a delight. The door goes from floor to ceiling, so steam from long, hot showers stays inside the bathroom. The sink area is a little tight, but perfectly fine for one or two people. Special shout-out: the magnifying mirror and the Japanese toilet – a real touch of luxury that I thoroughly enjoyed.
This time was just a long weekend, and we had a fantastic, relaxing stay.
The only small drawback: the metro is about 1 km away, maybe slightly farther. But the value for money is so excellent that what you save on the hotel more than covers a taxi ride. In fact, I had a 6:00 am train from Hongqiao and pre-ordered a Didi – it took just 15 minutes door to door, which was incredibly convenient for me. Considering how reasonable the price at Citadines already is, the Didi cost felt like nothing. That sealed the deal for me.
