Leshan Giant Buddha Guide
Leshan Giant Buddha, also called Lingyun Giant Buddha, is a seated Maitreya statue carved into the Lingyun Mountain cliff in Sichuan. Standing 71 metres high, it is the world’s largest stone Buddha. Carving began in 713 AD during the Tang Dynasty and lasted 90 years. It overlooks the junction of Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi rivers. Together with Mount Emei, it became a UNESCO mixed World Heritage Site in 1996. Its hidden ancient drainage system protects the huge cliff sculpture to this day.
