"Very nice stay. Staff were great. Breakfast and dinner included, which I enjoyed. I think this is worth it if you can get a deal via one of the booking sites, it's quite pricey compared to other more conveniently situated properties in Kandy. It's a very unique boutique hotel, beautiful and comfortable with great service. The only gripe I would have is the shower...it's a small hot water tank, so you can have a max 10 minute shower before the water runs cold. You then have to wait 10mins before the water heater heats the water back up. Other reviews complain about the noise from the road and rail track, but we didn't hear a single train during our 2 night stay and the road didn't bother us at all."

"Stay for three nights. The hotel is heritage not recommended for a person who is afraid things stay alone. The location is perfect at the front gate of the temple of tooth relics. However, one male GSA do not respond well as I told him that the telephine is broken, the fridge inside is very hot and the light in the toilet is broken so many times. Until I checked out the telephine is still broken, the fridge inside is still very hot. But the light is fixed by an electrician who was recommended by male maid not GSA."

"We stayed in the David Lean bungalow for two nights and, given all our planned activities, never made it to the main hotel base. The bungalow was great - beautiful views down the valley from an elegant veranda, spacious rooms, a fascinating history, and the use of beautiful public rooms. Bandara (the butler and provider of meals) was a delight: always available with good advice and interesting snippets of historical note, but disappearing quietly when not required (PG Wodehouse would have been impressed). There was lots to do in Kandy. We really enjoyed our stay here!"

"What's good: The hotel is secluded, beautifully maintained grounds, a wonderful view from the top, plenty of aesthetically pleasing photo spots, and a relatively well-appointed room. What's bad: Since the hotel is located at an altitude, unfortunately, we didn't get to experience the joys of the pool (after being caught in the eye of a cyclone on the way, we would have been happy to swim and warm up in the warm water, but the water in the pool was cold; this is a major drawback given that swimming is one of the main activities/entertainments on the property). The hotel restaurant could use some training for its chefs: when you're hungry, as we were, of course, any food seems delicious, but ours, alas, was not. Our selection wasn't particularly sophisticated, but rather poorly prepared: Mushroom cappuccino, garlic prawns, chicken biriyani, two lion beers. The mushroom soup was bland, with no hint of mushrooms, the shrimp were severely overcooked, and I practically cried when I ate the chicken, even though I asked the waiter "no spicy, please." Not only was the chicken so dry it tasted more like snakeskin, but the spices burned my mouth. Perhaps we were just "lucky" with the food, but unfortunately, dinner for less than 11,000 Sri Lankan rupees wasn't impressive. Breakfast, however, was decent (omelet, beans, some meat, grilled vegetables, fruit, pastries, fruit shake, water). The staff was polite, and everyone tried their best, both at the hotel and in the restaurant. Yes, the road to the hotel isn't for the faint of heart: the road is poorly paved in places, and there's a steep switchback uphill. But if you're a seasoned hiker and even a season-long biker like us, the road to the hotel won't be too daunting. Recommendations for the hotel: We were missing a clothes dryer. For those who use the pool or get caught in heavy rain, this is a necessary item. Please provide a replacement."

"We booked a room with a view and it certainly delivered. We had a spacious balcony and could see so much, happily have sat outside for hours and luckily even the sunrise was watchable. Service was really good and staff were extremely helpful. Room was very spacious, bath was amazing and also came with the view. Other facilities we made the most of included the infinity pool, which again came with the view. It was difficult getting to the hotel but that’s what you expect when it’s on a mountain. We would stay again!"

There is a gym with a nice view as well where I spent most of my morning there The most view I love is when I swim at the pool I can see whole Kandy City from top , it’s stunning. The services and the staff are very good especially Tuan the Manager and front liner guy (sorry forgot the name) which is always there to help. Thank you for making my stay memorable. This hotel is recommended n worth to stay with the price."

"Another fantastic stay in the best hotel in Kandy. This hotel is very beautiful and has the best pool in Sri Lanka! From the moment you arrive, the staff make you feel like a VIP. The rooms are lovely, very clean and the beds very comfortable. The bathrooms could have the bath removed and just a shower but this does not detract from the loveliness of this hotel. The food in the restaurant is excellent with good choices. One night we had Buffett and the second night a set menu. Breakfast was always buffet and if you wanted something that was not there, the staff obliged by bringing it to you. I cannot recommend all the staff highly enough but must give a shoutout to Indika and Lahiru, who both went the extra mile for our group. A sincere thank you! The only criticism I have of this property is the wifi. It was very slow. This hotel has spectacular views over the river. I cannot recommend this property highly enough. Make sure you choose it for your next visit to Kandy!"

The hotel is set in beautiful gardens, with four very large bedrooms. Would highly recommend staying here whether you are a family or a couple. You can only imagine the parties and entertainment the house historically used to have!"
