Chic & Basic Gravity

Our family reserved 3 rooms and arrived on a very early flight . Jose was kind enough to get 1 of our rooms ready within an hour so we could at least wash up, rest for a bit, and refresh before going out for the day. He continued to take care of us throughout our stay with anything we needed, while being extremely kind and personal. He is an excellent representative of the quality and care the hotel offers. We also liked the ambiance of the hotel. It was nicely lit and decorated in a fun, eclectic, and relaxing fashion. Our room rate included the breakfast which was an amazing spread with much variety, highly recommend. Location was central, easy walking distance everywhere. Small disappointment was lack of gym. I know we walk around alot but it would’ve nice to have the option as my husband and son like to exercise quite a bit. In addition, the TV lounge room which can be nice for teenagers/kids to use while waiting for our rooms to be ready was rather plain in terms of interior design, just gray concrete walls, as opposed to the interesting and colorful designs of the rest of the hotel. This is just an observation, I would definitely recommend this hotel and would come back again.

Very good service

Just back from a few days in Porto staying in Hotel Chic and Basic Gravity.Wonderful stay,great bed and lovely staff.Very quirky but great atmosphere.Breakfast and food in restaurant lovely.All staff,bar and reception extremely helpful,nothing was too much bother .Even left birthday cake with candle in our room when they realised we were celebrating a birthday.Location good for all visitor sites,Eve if at top of a hill , one of the many.Will definately visit again a great wee find

We did a city break over Valentines weekend. The hotel was nice and clean and quirkily decorated. We found the service a little lacking. This was mainly related to the attached restaurant. Location wise we didn’t find perfect as it’s a little bit away from the main attractions. Not terrible but about a 10 minute walk at least. We go away every Valentines to a city break. This was probably the most disappointing hotel we have stayed in. We have gone every year since 2007. The room was sufficient but a little small. The shower was superb, lovely and powerful. The housekeeping was of an excellent level. The breakfast was quite good. A few situations were irritating around breakfast. They never had tea spoons or stirrers available for the coffee. The hot food was merely warm food. No sausage of any description with the cooked breakfast. My wife asked if one of the waiters could get her some milk. Rather than just getting it or showing her where it was. He looked at her saying it’s already out, then followed on with I put it out myself. All of this with an accusational tone. It turned out they were in a box, so when your brain is expecting to see a glass bottle or jug, and the white of the milk my wife missed it. She was then made to feel foolish. On another occasion we just chose to end up eating in the restaurant as we were late in from activities and it had rained heavily. The reaction was ‘have you booked’ while there was 3/4 of the tables clear. Different person but the same manner which we found a little off for someone working in hospitality. We pointed out no, but we were staying at the hotel so we didn’t think we had to. Small points in isolation I know but it was enough to mar the experience we had. Basically the hotel is ok, but we wouldn’t recommend or return. However, it wasn’t a bad experience either.
