"This hotel is tucked away in an alley just off the main road, about a 10-15 minute walk to Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center and One Nimman. Right behind the hotel, there's a rustic Northern Thai curry restaurant under a canopy and a small coffee shop, both bustling during meal times. About a 10-minute walk away, you'll find JJ Thai Pad, which is absolutely delicious! The hotel boasts a small garden and a swimming pool, and my room had a direct view of Doi Suthep – the setting is really lovely. The price includes breakfast, which was quite good! Even though it's not directly on the main road, it offers a peaceful retreat amidst the hustle and bustle, with many quiet, unassuming little restaurants in the nearby alleys, all within easy walking distance. Great value for money!"

"Overall it needs updating and some tender loving care! Old doesn’t have to be dank and musty. The rooms albeit large felt dark and moldy. We wanted quiet and it felt like the couple beside us was with us (paper thin walls on first floor). - Plunge pool not private you see your neighbour and the mosquitos chase you away anyway so we couldn’t use it. -Staff were transactional and at times friendly. They were fairly responsive when you call for something (within minutes for water one time, another time we waited 15 minutes). - Bed hard as a rock, pillows flattened and/or hard. - Shower some mould and water temp varied every shower we took from chilled to burning hot. Quite unpleasant! - Mosquitos were very bad when we arrived then they sprayed and felt a world of difference. Sadly the spray was 330p on Friday - optimal pool time. - Everything additional is over priced. Buffet for breakfast has everything but it’s over priced considering we can go to market for under $100 baht and get amazing fresh meat, chicken porridge and sticky rice. For what we are paying it seems misaligned and unfortunate. They could really take the bones and make it charming again. Freshen it up with a little paint on the exterior, fresh linens and new towels, and make it feel a little nicer with better lighting."

"The hotel is super clean and quiet, offering great value for money. The location is perfect – lively when you step out, yet peaceful once you're inside. There are tons of fantastic restaurants nearby. For breakfast, I recommend the two Western-style places and the noodle shop (See You Soon, Thaan Aoan, Noodles & Restaurant) which is even better than the famous Blue Noodles. They offer a complimentary mocktail upon check-in, which is delightful to sip by the pool. The front desk staff are all incredibly nice, always greeting you with a bright smile. Coming back to the hotel each day truly lifted my spirits."

The room layout was reasonable and spacious, the bathroom was fantastic with three shower options: bathtub, indoor and outdoor shower. The balcony was huge and comfortable. Breakfast included both à la carte and buffet options, and the quality was good. The pool and spa are definitely worth experiencing. Although there was piano music at the bar, there were so many mosquitoes that I couldn't sit still; I killed over a dozen in just over ten minutes! Overall, the privacy, sense of occasion, and historical atmosphere were excellent. I would definitely come back again if I had the chance.

This hotel was absolutely wonderful! It's not right in the city center, but we just took taxis everywhere, and Chiang Mai isn't that big anyway, so Grab (ride-hailing app) was super convenient. The service was incredibly thoughtful; we added the butler on WeChat, and they were always responsive to our requests. Housekeeping was also excellent and very thorough every day. The villa is two stories, with a king-sized bed downstairs and two twin beds upstairs, and there are three bathrooms in total. There's also a swimming pool and a small hot spring on the first floor. The minibar was entirely free and high-quality, with imported Evian, sodas, and beer replenished daily, plus various snacks and fruits. The ice cream was especially delicious! We stayed for four nights, mostly heading out in the mornings and relaxing at the hotel in the afternoons, which was perfect for a vacation. Breakfast was delivered to the villa every day with multiple options. It's worth mentioning that ordering food in the villa was both affordable and tasty. They also offered massages from a well-known chain, with complimentary pick-up and drop-off, just a few minutes away, and I think we even got a discount. We might just come back for another vacation if we get the chance!

This time, I stayed with my family and we were very satisfied with everything from the location and ambiance to the staff service. The breakfast spread was extensive, and their pasta and skewers were absolutely delicious! In the afternoon, guests also get complimentary afternoon tea and massages. Both the indoor and outdoor areas of the lobby are serene and beautiful. I loved sitting outside for breakfast and then heading to the pool for a swim in the afternoon. The staff were all friendly and greeted us with smiles, and our room was cleaned perfectly every day. Although I packed earplugs, I barely needed them because the alley is very quiet at night, as it's not on a main road. Right next to the hotel is the famous Macca Spa. Everything was perfect, except for the air conditioning in the room blowing directly over the head of the bed!

This is my second time in Chiang Mai, and I chose this hotel again. This time, they've built a new wing, which has a slightly different style from the old one. The rooms in the new building are newer and offer more privacy. I had only booked one night in the new wing and the rest in the old one, but the front desk upgraded me to the new wing for all my nights. Every staff member was very nice. I'll definitely choose to stay here again the next time I visit Chiang Mai.

Chez Nij Ryokan Onsen

I love creating reviews and social content — especially about ryokan-style stays and onsen experiences. There may be more ryokans in Thailand now, but when a friend recommended Chez Nij Ryokan Onsen, I was genuinely impressed from the moment I arrived. The blend of Thai, Japanese, and French influences is beautifully unique. Even more special is the history — this was once the residence of the former Governor of Chiang Mai. The house is filled with antiques, charm, and character. Stepping inside feels warm, welcoming, and truly homely. The owner, a doctor and grandson of the former governor, personally cares for guests and shared meaningful stories about the residence — an honor I won’t forget. Location-wise, it’s peaceful yet convenient. Nimmanhaemin Road is only 8 minutes away, perfect for dining and shopping. Even returning around 1 AM, the owner and night manager were still there to welcome me. The alley is well lit, quiet, and safe, with another hotel and a tennis court next door. A 7-Eleven is just a 5-minute walk away on the main road. I stayed in the Studio Room with onsen access — incredibly private and peaceful. The tatami design is beautiful, the bed unbelievably soft, and the air quality excellent (my usual dust allergies improved after just one night). The complimentary minibar was a lovely bonus. Direct onsen access from the room is available in the morning only. During female and male sessions, the private door is securely locked and entry is through the changing room — a very safe and thoughtful system. The open-air onsen is stunning — inspired by the winter sea of Hokkaido and said to be one of the largest in Chiang Mai. Cleanliness and hygiene standards are outstanding. The mineral water left my skin noticeably smoother and deeply hydrated, unlike other onsens I’ve tried. The schedule is very well organized, with separate time slots and thorough cleaning between sessions. I checked in at 3 PM and immediately enjoyed the women’s session. After 5:30 PM, guests are asked to leave for routine cleaning and to dry off properly to prevent slipping — a clear reflection of their commitment to safety and hygiene. Soaking at 7:30 AM in the cool morning air truly felt like having a private hot spring. Breakfast is served as a generous full set — so abundant I couldn’t finish it all — yet the staff still offered more. Everything was delicious, and the chef personally came to serve and chat, adding such a thoughtful touch. In the evening, a complimentary mini tea set (9–10 PM) made the stay even more charming. I wrote this from the heart to reflect the genuine care I received. It was absolutely worth it, and I’m so glad I followed my friend’s recommendation. I’ll definitely return to Chez Nij whenever I’m back in Chiang Mai.

This is an older hotel and in need of some freshening up. Has all facilities of an upscale hotel, and maybe at some point in the past it was, but at its current state I would say it is just ok. Location is great, minutes walk to the night bazar, comfortable walk to the old city, lots of food and entertainments close by. They offer a large breakfast buffet with lots of options. Food quality was decent, typical to a large tourist hotel. My room was very spacious, with a large window facing a wall... The bathroom had some signs of mold and chipping off ceramic tiles. Overall not a bas stay for a quick one night stop over in Chiangmai, but I don't think I would have wanted to spend a week there.

A beautiful serendipitous spot to relax. Staff are all friendly and have high service mindset. I asked for Khao Soi which is not on menu and they did it for me. Surprisingly the dish was so delicious, one of good Khao Soi bowls I had. All details in the hotel are so well-curated. A location is good, nearby Wat U-mong which is nice to visit by walking. Not too far to go to center of a city. Lovely experience staying there.

I had a very pleasant stay at Hinoki Hotel Onsen Chiang Mai. The Japanese-style design makes the hotel feel calm and relaxing. The highlight of the stay was definitely the onsen, which was clean, well-maintained, and perfect for relaxing after a long day exploring Chiang Mai. The staff were friendly and helpful, providing good service throughout the stay. The facilities were well organized, and the rooms were comfortable and clean. The breakfast was also enjoyable with a good variety of food. Overall, it was a relaxing and unique experience, especially for anyone who wants to enjoy a Japanese-style onsen in Chiang Mai. I would recommend this hotel to travelers looking for comfort and relaxation.

”I had a wonderful stay at Chaba CBP Chiang Mai. The hotel features a beautiful, minimalist design that feels incredibly clean, calm, and welcoming. What truly sets this place apart is how genuinely pet-friendly they are—you can feel that the team here cares about all animals from the heart. The rooms are spotless, non-smoking, and very comfortable. The staff provides excellent service with warm hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone traveling to Chiang Mai, especially if you have furry friends!”
