It's located in a corner of Metsä, a large park with lots of greenery. Entry to areas outside of Moominvalley Park is free. Inside Moominvalley Park, you can see Moomin's house, watch Moomin short films, enjoy an adventure with Moominpappa, Hemulen's amusement park (with athletic facilities), and indoor play areas, making it a place where children can have fun all day long. The merchandise is incredibly cute, so adults will enjoy it too. The restaurants inside are a bit pricey, but the cuteness makes them worth the trip.

It was a day trip from Iwate, but I was able to relax and enjoy myself. I want to go again. You should definitely try the strawberry shaved ice on the way to Moominvalley Park! It's real strawberry shaved ice, not just syrup! 🍧

Buying tickets through the app is cheaper than buying them at the park entrance. There are many activities to do, which kids will love, and they can get closer to nature.

It's a small, easy-to-walk-around place, and surprisingly accessible. It offers a different kind of fun compared to large theme parks, and it might be a good place to visit during the autumn foliage season.

What Is Moomin Valley Park?

What Is Moomin Valley Park?

Moomin Valley Park is a charming outdoor theme park in Japan based on Finnish author Tove Jansson’s classic Moomin stories. Launched in March 2019, it is the world’s first Moomin-themed park outside Finland, offering international visitors a real-life glimpse into the Nordic fairy-tale universe.

Located in Hanno, Saitama Prefecture, roughly 40 km northwest of central Tokyo, the park sits on the tranquil shores of Lake Miyazawa. It combines lush natural landscapes with authentic storybook scenery, delivering a calm, family-friendly immersive experience. The park consists of four lakeside themed zones: Welcome Cove, Moominvalley, Kokemus Exhibition Hall, and Lonely Mountain.

Bordering the paid park area is Metsä Village, a free-to-enter Nordic leisure zone operating from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM with lake-view dining, cafés and boutique shops for visitors to enjoy Nordic vibes without a park ticket.

Park Hours & Practical Visitor Information

Moomin Valley Park is open year-round with no fixed closing days. Standard hours are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with extended evening hours for seasonal events, fireworks shows and holidays.
