Cuihu District Kunming|1.57km from city centre
Although it's an older hotel, the lobby is still maintained very clean and grand. The rooms, however, show more noticeable signs of aging and aren't particularly spacious. That said, the service level is definitely up to par. We chose a room with a panoramic view of Cuihu Lake, and right outside, there are plenty of local eateries on Qianju Street, as well as some nice coffee shops and libraries… The location advantage is simply unbeatable. During the peak summer travel season, right next to the prime real estate of Cuihu Lake, what more could you ask for in terms of value for money?From£50

The entire room definitely shows its age. For my 9-night, 10-day trip to Kunming, I chose this as my first stop. Let me start with the positives: The location is excellent, and the service is incredibly attentive. The front desk even proactively upgraded my room, which was a huge plus. The room itself was also clean and tidy. However, the one major drawback is the hotel's infrastructure, particularly the bed. It was really uncomfortable to sleep on; I couldn't get used to it even after two nights. Stepping out of the room onto the 6th floor, the air quality felt much better than inside the room.From£46

Stayed with my family, and the hotel thoughtfully upgraded our room for free. The room was spacious and bright. The floor-to-ceiling windows offered an absolutely stunning view from high above, and the kids loved watching the city traffic at night. The room was well-equipped with a tea set, coffee machine, and plenty of drinking water. The bedding was soft and comfortable for a good night's sleep. The environment was quiet with excellent soundproofing, and the facilities were clean and tidy. It was very convenient for exploring the city. The service was warm and attentive. It was a perfect experience for a family trip. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Kunming.From£35

Stayed for one night and the hotel was so good, I immediately booked for two more. The hotel staff were incredibly thoughtful, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. The male manager with glasses in the restaurant, along with the lovely hostess at the reception, were both amazing. There were two staff members with glasses, one with a very red face, and the young man who made the rice noodles even told me the most authentic way to eat them. The omelet chef respectfully greeted guests by bowing his head. And my absolute favorite was the Thai rice noodles – so tasty I ate them for three days straight! A big thank you to the restaurant's head chef who even added extra sauce and let me pack some to eat on the plane. The fresh flower pastries were fantastic; the manager gave me a box, and they were so good I was speechless. I ended up buying three more boxes myself, and everyone who tried them back home raved about how delicious they were. Seriously, you *must* buy them, highly recommended! Thank you to the hotel for your service these past few days.From£66

While the hotel room facilities are a bit dated, with old carpets and a slightly cramped bathroom with only one sink, the strong water pressure made for a comfortable shower. The air conditioning was just okay, and the soundproofing was decent. As an older five-star hotel, Wanda Vista truly shines in its service. Front desk manager Mr./Ms. Yang was kind and friendly, helping us arrange an extended stay and providing excellent advice and assistance with our Yunnan travel plans. The front desk is often a guest's first impression, and we're very grateful to Mr./Ms. Yang for starting our stay off so well. The restaurant's breakfast offered a good variety, and the taste was acceptable. The breakfast staff were incredibly sincere and service-oriented in their greetings and assistance. I even noticed one or two pregnant staff members in the breakfast area who were still meticulously and efficiently going about their work. The executive lounge didn't have a huge selection of dishes, but everything was fresh and replenished promptly. The housekeeping staff were also very friendly, and the room was kept clean. The hotel's location is super convenient. Overall, it's definitely worth another stay.From£70

Of all the hotels I've stayed in, the service at this one truly impressed me, and I have to give it high praise!
From the moment I booked, I felt their exceptional attentiveness. Customer service proactively called to confirm my check-in time and asked if I had any special requests, like wanting a higher floor or a quiet room. Upon arrival, a staff member immediately offered to help with my luggage, and the front desk processed my check-in quickly, even offering me a bottle of water. It was a hot day in Kunming, and that water instantly cooled me down.
Check-out was just as smooth. The front desk asked about my stay and if I had any suggestions, and even gave me a small tea souvenir. The entire stay felt as comfortable and relaxed as visiting a friend's home, with no sense of formality whatsoever.
The hardware facilities were also great. The room was spacious, the bedding was comfortable, and the Chinese-style decor was grand and tasteful – not a tacky imitation of antiquity, but a well-designed modern Chinese aesthetic that was perfect for photos.
I genuinely recommend this hotel to everyone. You'll understand what 'home away from home' truly means after just one stay!From£42

Perfect location in a walkable tree-lined neighborhood, where there are lots of upscale restaurants and bars and cafes. The hotel isn’t the newest and could use a touch-up in places but very interesting design, cool artwork in the lobby, huge rooms. A couple machines for laundry and gym on top floor. Service at the reception was super helpful. Breakfast is in a restaurant that is a German beer place during the day and night. Selection is modest but sausages and delicious broth and noodles, the bread could have been more fresh. Would stay here again.From£62

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wonderful Stay at Green Lake Hotel – Excellent Location, Service and Food.
We had a wonderful stay at Green Lake Hotel in Kunming. The location is absolutely fantastic, right next to the beautiful Green Lake and within easy walking distance of many of Kunming’s attractions, restaurants, and historic areas. It was especially nice to be able to walk around the lake in the morning and evening.
Although the hotel has a long history, it is very well maintained and has a classic, elegant atmosphere. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the entire hotel felt welcoming and well cared for.
What impressed us most was the service. The staff were genuinely warm, professional, and attentive. Everyone we interacted with made us feel welcome, and they were always willing to help. This level of hospitality really made our stay memorable.
We also had an excellent experience at the hotel restaurant. The dining environment is beautiful and elegant, the service is attentive, and the food was very well prepared. We especially enjoyed experiencing the local Yunnan flavors and ingredients. It was one of the highlights of our stay and a very convenient place to enjoy a relaxing meal after sightseeing.
Overall, Green Lake Hotel combines an unbeatable location, traditional elegance, excellent service, and very good dining. It has a character that many newer hotels simply don’t have. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily choose this hotel again the next time we visit Kunming. Highly recommended!From£85

Atmosphere: As an InterContinental five-star hotel, the ambiance is, of course, top-notch! The overall Southeast Asian resort style immediately puts you in a vacation mood upon arrival.
Facilities: While not as brand new as some newly opened hotels, it boasts a large area and beautiful scenery. The hotel offers various excellent facilities, including a swimming pool, hot tubs, and a gym. Breakfast is also very extensive, featuring local Yunnan specialties. Additionally, the hotel's Chinese restaurant offers incredibly good value for a five-star establishment, with several dishes definitely worth trying.
Service: Our butler contacted us a day in advance and even provided an activity catalog for our stay. The next day, we experienced local 'Jiama' woodblock printing, which was really enjoyable!From£96

Came to Kunming for a short weekend trip and chose this hostel. The location is excellent and it's very budget-friendly. We stayed in a double room with a private bathroom, and there was always plenty of hot water. The room was cleaned daily. For anyone who isn't overly particular about their accommodation, this place is perfectly adequate.
The hostel also has its own restaurant and bar, where many guests socialize or work, including quite a few foreign travelers. The food in the restaurant is decent and reasonably priced, with single meals costing 20-30 RMB. However, it's primarily Western cuisine, so those who prefer Chinese food might not find it to their taste.
The only slight drawback is the poor soundproofing in the rooms. Our room was directly opposite the communal washbasins, and we could clearly hear other guests washing up and blow-drying their hair. If you're a light sleeper, remember to bring earplugs!From£6

This garden hotel is absolutely stunning!
The garden is like a huge energy field; a walk through it every evening recharges you. A big thank you to the lovely front desk lady who arranged a beautiful room with a direct view of the garden – it was so refreshing to open the window each day.
The swimming pool is also fantastic! It's deep and spacious, with excellent water quality, making for a truly enjoyable swim.
The room was cleaned promptly, and the housekeepers thoughtfully left four bottles of water, all neatly arranged!
I was able to add the butler on WeChat, and during my five-night stay, I received fruit for three days, and two cans of coffee as a farewell gift!
Our room rate included breakfast and dinner, and for all five nights, the food at the restaurant was consistently excellent! The Yunnan local dishes, in particular, were so delicious they almost brought tears to my eyes! The rice noodles were incredible, with four different types of toppings! I had rice noodles for both breakfast and dinner! The fruit selection was also abundant, with seven or eight varieties. I especially loved their freshly squeezed juices, particularly the cucumber juice. And they have an Indian chef whose flying bread and curry are simply divine!
The location is superb! A short walk through Haigeng Hall leads you directly to Haigeng Dam, making it incredibly convenient to see the seagulls! Xishan and Haihong Wetland are also not far, perfect for a leisurely stroll.
I hope to stay at InterContinental Hotel again on my next visit to Dianchi Lake. The quality and service far exceeded my expectations!From£113

My stay here was excellent. The front desk staff were very friendly and attentive, and check-in was super efficient. They proactively informed me about the hot spring's opening hours and breakfast times, and even offered helpful tips for exploring the area.
The hotel is about 4km from Dianchi Lake, and within a 2km radius, there are plenty of dining and shopping options.
The hotel's breakfast spread was incredibly rich, featuring a great mix of Chinese and Western dishes. There were pastries, fruits, desserts, and various beverages. The ingredients were fresh and delicious, and the freshly prepared noodle station served authentic, tasty noodles.

Dianchi Lake Scenic Area/ Sunac World Kunming|9.03km from city centre
The hotel is located right by Dianchi Lake, with separate lanes for vehicles and pedestrians. There's an observation deck not far from the hotel, and it's about 800-900 meters to Haigeng Park and Haihong Wetland. However, you still have to walk further to get to the cable car station, and I estimate the dam is even further – I didn't go there. The hotel is 2.3 kilometers from Xingti Road Station on Metro Line 5. Our package included one complimentary drop-off service to the metro station, which was really good. It would be even better if they offered round-trip shuttle service to the metro for backpackers.
However, there aren't many shops around the hotel. For dining, it's either the hotel restaurant or ordering takeout. Park 1903 Commercial Street is about 3 kilometers away, so it's more suitable if you have a car.
The hotel service was excellent. The front desk staff, housekeeping, and drivers were all incredibly gentle and friendly. The manager even proactively helped us with our luggage.
The hotel is quite understated; in fact, the observation deck not far away offers amazing sunrise views, but they never promote it.From£69

I ordered takeout, but the hotel doesn't allow the deliveryman to deliver to the room because it was inconvenient for me, so I asked the front desk for help, and it was delivered to the room very quickly. When I asked the reason, the front desk guy told me that it was for the safety of the guests that the deliveryman was not allowed to go upstairs. The hotel has trained guests that if they need takeout to the room, they can help deliver it. The overall feeling of the hotel is good, and the service attitude is very good. When I checked in, I asked about the surrounding attractions and routes, and they explained it very patiently. The room internet connection was very fast, and I asked the waiter, who told me that each room has an independent dedicated line. The room feels clean, and you can swim, exercise, and take a hot spring bath. Since I had a lot of fun, I didn't have time to take a few photos of the hotel. My family loved the hotel. It was spacious with a courtyard, a lake, and fish. The gym was large and well-equipped with a wide variety of equipment. There were two heated swimming pools, which were cleaned every night. The hot spring water next to the pools was also drained and replaced with fresh water the next day. There were both indoor and outdoor pools, and the hot spring water was drawn from underground. The whole hotel was a recreational attraction. We originally only booked one night, but we were so relaxed and comfortable at the hotel that we extended our stay for another day. When my child got wet, the staff even kindly took them to dry.From£43

Cuihu District Kunming|2.06km from city centre
The hotel is right by Cuihu Lake, offering an exceptional location. Stepping out in the morning, you're greeted by Cuihu Lake with fresh, cool, and quiet air. There are also people exercising by the lake, creating a very pleasant atmosphere. The other entrance of the hotel faces a main road, making it incredibly convenient for catching a taxi when leaving. You can start your city walk right after checking in. Personally, I found the rooms on the ground floor to be more comfortable and spacious, with greater privacy.From£51

This is a well-established five-star hotel with an excellent location. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the service is friendly. It offers good value for money and is always my top choice when I visit Kunming.
It's very convenient for food, accommodation, and getting around. It's just a short walk to Kunming Oriental Plaza, Spring City 66 (the twin towers), Nanqiang Street, Nanping Street, Kunming Old Street, and Shuncheng Shopping Center. The breakfast buffet is extensive, and I highly recommend their flower cakes and 'Crossing the Bridge' noodles – they're delicious! 👍From£51

Railway Station Area Kunming|1.75km from city centre
The hotel is very close to Kunming Station, within walking distance, making it very suitable for catching a train. The hotel itself is an old-established 4-star hotel; it looks quite grand from the outside. All the staff you encounter, including those at the front desk, are professional and enthusiastic. We booked a family room with one king bed and one single bed, perfect for a family of three. The room also had a small tent, giving it a bit of a camping feel. They even delivered tremella soup daily, which was very nourishing. The breakfast buffet is in the revolving restaurant on the top floor, offering expansive views. I think the variety of dishes could be improved; while it looked abundant, there weren't many truly delicious options. We stayed in the Fashion Building, and the elevator broke down several times. We left in a hurry and forgot to take four small ornaments that were on the windowsill. We called the hotel that same afternoon, but unfortunately, they couldn't be found.From£29

Kunming Changshui International Airport Kunming|22.28km from city centre
Stayed for two nights on a business trip, and overall it was a great experience. The front desk was quick with check-in, so no long queues. The room was spacious, and the desk was large enough for working overtime, totally sufficient. The hygiene was well-maintained, and daily housekeeping promptly refilled drinking water and toiletries. The elevator was quiet, and the room had excellent soundproofing; I barely heard any noise from the hallway, which meant my late-night rest wasn't disturbed. The subway entrance is very close downstairs, making business commutes convenient, and the price is reasonable. I'll prioritize booking here for future business trips.From£19

Cuihu District Kunming|2.22km from city centre
The hotel's location is excellent if you're exploring Cuihu Lake and its surroundings. However, if you're heading to Dianchi Lake, the Botanical Garden, or shopping malls, a taxi ride will take over 40 minutes. The facilities are a bit dated, and the Wi-Fi signal often drops at night. I booked the highest-tier twin room for four nights for just one adult and one child, but they still wouldn't offer 1.5 portions of breakfast. I understand the hotel's costs and that it's peak season during the summer, but it felt a bit too by-the-book. I haven't encountered this at other Orange Hotels or similar-level hotels in other cities.From£43

Colorful Yunnan Paradise Kunming|29.69km from city centre
I came to Gudian to relax, and the hotel grounds are vast with a strong garden feel. Walking around and enjoying the breeze is very stress-relieving. The room was generally clean, and the bathroom facilities were well-maintained. The mattress was just the right firmness for sleeping. There were a lot of guests during the holiday, but the staff were all very polite and helpful with any issues (Clove, I assume is a name or a specific inquiry type, so I'll keep it as is). The breakfast buffet was good, offering local snacks, though I hope they could rotate the variety every couple of days. It's close to various attractions around Dianchi Lake and not far from Fuxian Lake. Overall, it's a great resort hotel, perfect for family or friends on a short trip.From£72

Century City area Kunming|8.51km from city centre
I've stayed at the Kunming Century Jinyuan Hotel multiple times, and this established five-star hotel consistently delivers on quality. Its biggest advantage is the location – whether you want to achieve 'flower freedom' at #DounanFlowerMarket, stroll through #GuanduAncientTown to experience ancient architecture, or admire the treasures of the ancient Dian Kingdom at the #YunnanProvincialMuseum, getting around is convenient and efficient. Planning a day trip is a breeze. The hotel's environment is tranquil, the rooms are well-lit, and the bedding is comfortable. The complimentary local tea gift upon check-in is a thoughtful touch. During my extended stay, the duty manager, Winnie, made an effort to call and visit. Her service was patient and meticulous, proactively arranging everything, with warm details at every turn. This hotel offers excellent value for money and is a must-stay when visiting Kunming!From£38

Wow! I highly recommend this hotel! The front desk staff were incredibly warm, polite, and responsive to all requests. The room was spotlessly clean, well-arranged, and the bedding was soft and comfortable. The absolute best part was the soundproofing – it was outstanding! I wasn't disturbed by any outside noise, which made for a perfect night's sleep. The hotel offers free parking, which is great for anyone traveling by car. The overall environment is quiet and elegant, and it offers excellent value for money. It's suitable for both short and long stays, and I've already recommended it to my friends!From£17

The hotel is located in 1903, which is very convenient for travel and shopping. The breakfast ingredients are fresh and taste great. The room has good lighting and is very comfortable. There is a self-service laundry room on the second floor, as well as a gym. The service of the front desk and the cleaning lady is also great. Hidden amidst the bustling city is this serene and elegant courtyard. With its grey tiled corridors and lush greenery, the terrace offers an incredible ambiance for tea, and every corner is a picturesque spot perfect for photos. The owner upgraded me to a loft king room. The room was very rustic and had a unique Yunnan charm. Breakfast included rice noodles, soy milk, and various grains. The owner even came downstairs to pick me up. The location is about 790 meters from the old town, making it very convenient for sightseeing and getting around. Absolutely perfect! The comfort level is superb, and the price is incredibly good. The experience was fantastic, truly a home away from home. The guy at the front desk was super charming – he could pour drinks, make coffee, and handle check-ins, mastering all the skills! Every evening, they'd bring two complimentary craft beers, which were even better than many pubs. Breakfast offers both Chinese and Western options, both excellent. Crucially, the bedding in the room was really comfortable. The hotel's facilities are great, and the service is super attentive. This hotel adds so much value and definitely enhanced my impression of Kunming!From£44

The rooms are clean and tidy and the facilities are complete. And this is the few Vienna hotels I have traveled so many times, and the air conditioning work is very efficient (most air conditioning is a bit disappointing)! The gym and laundry room are very close and very clean, and the hotel staff is also very good at serving a recommended hotel!
The lights in the corridor are also very bright, and you will not be afraid to come back very late ~
By the way, there is also the service of lending umbrellas. The quality of the umbrellas is particularly good. It just happened to be raining heavily. The umbrellas are very big. Two or three people are enough!From£43

The location of the hotel can also be near Vientiane City. The hotel is on the side of the road and is easier to find. The lobby on the first floor of the hotel is large. This hotel has several floors and dozens of rooms. The sound insulation is too poor. There is also a wooden board and mirror of a cabinet in the next room. The sound of boiling water in the next room was very clear, the sound of opening the cabinet door in the next room was also very clear, and the sound of talking in the next room was also very clear. The sound of bathing upstairs and next door was also very clear, the sound of rushing water. The voice in the corridor was also heard very clearly, the sound of walking in the corridor, the sound of pulling the suitcase, and it was also heard very clearly. On the evening of the New Year's Eve, I called the front desk several times and no one answered. On the second day, I asked the front desk person, and the front desk person said that it was a holiday. No one cleaned on the first day of the New Year, the front desk had to change my room, and I didn't change it. I have stayed in so many hotels. The first time I encountered such a situation, there was no one at the front desk on the 30th night of the New Year. There was no staff in the hotel and no security. There was no cleaning staff on the first day of the New Year. This is not a small hotel, it is also a relatively large hotel, how can this situation occur? I stayed at this hotel for more than ten days and didn't see who the manager of the hotel was from the beginning to the end. In addition to a staff member at the front desk, it was the cleaning person.Kunming Metro FAQs
-
Is the Kunming Metro easy to navigate for English-speaking tourists?
Yes — the Kunming Metro is very foreigner-friendly. All station signage, platform indicators, and onboard stop announcements are available in both Chinese and English. Ticket vending machines also feature English-language menus, making it straightforward for Canadian and other international visitors to purchase tickets independently without needing to speak Mandarin. -
Can I pay for the Kunming Metro with a foreign credit card or cash?
Yes. Ticket vending machines at Kunming Metro stations accept Visa and UnionPay cards in addition to cash, Alipay, and WeChat Pay. Cash (Chinese yuan/RMB) is always accepted at staffed ticket counters. For added convenience, international visitors — including Canadians — are advised to set up Alipay's international version, which allows linking a foreign Visa or Mastercard, before arriving in China. -
Which Kunming Metro line should tourists prioritise?
Line 3 is the top recommendation for tourists, linking Western Hills Park (access to Dianchi Lake and Dragon Gate) with the city-centre hub at Dongfeng Square. Line 5 is ideal for nature lovers, serving the World Horti-Expo Garden and Haigeng Park. Line 6 is essential for travellers connecting to or from Kunming Changshui International Airport.
