"Anniversary away break. Location on edge of Chester close to motorway. Nice grounds, busy carpark and popular venue for parties and business guests. Carpet on second floor dirty and smells. Sink kept blocking because plug holes full of scum. Toilet seat incorrect size and not secured properly. Bed comfortable, nice towels tea and instant coffee and bottles of water in room. Breakfast nice selection BUT no fresh decaffeinated coffee only instant granules yuk!!! Nothing worse than awful coffee!!! With so many decent decaffeinated options available and customers not drinking caffeine this is totally unacceptable."

"This is definitely an amazingly quirky place to stay and not your normal hotel, in other words you will need to embrace this and not have the usual expectations of a 4 star hotel. The location is perfect for a city break, the room was quiet (we stayed in an attic room), lovely view out of the velux window, the bed was comfortable and the shower was great. Unfortunately the WiFi was very intermittent probably because of the building, however generally WiFi was not great across the whole of Chester itself. The TV did not work but will be replaced, obviously the previous guests had not flagged this up. There was a DAB radio which was great. There were a lot of steps up to the front of the hotel as this is a very old building and also not surprisingly up to the attic bedrooms. There were times that we had to ask for a few things but staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast is on a cook to order basis so don't expect a breakfast buffet. All in all we embraced the quirkiness, had some lovely conversations and enjoyed our stay. I would say however that this probably suits the young at heart and the younger generation, probably not for young families and you shouldn't be disappointed."

"It is really a very old-school hotel with good public areas, exquisite doors, and nice doormen and front desk. It is said that the occupancy rate was very high in those days, and there was not much room to choose from. It was the outermost room on the second floor. It's still spacious, but the door is severely deformed and requires a lot of force to open and close. The mattress is on the soft side, but still OK. The biggest drawback is the bathroom. There are two separate hot and cold faucets in the washbasin, which is very inconvenient. The shower is in the bathtub, with only half of the partition. Water will splash everywhere when taking a shower. The towels are a bit old, thin and hard. The restaurant is also very popular. Breakfast is included in the room rate. Continental breakfast is included. If you want to upgrade to a freshly cooked British hot meal, you have to pay for it, which is more than 12 pounds. I made an appointment for a dinner. It weighed 127 pounds for two people. It was not very delicious. The medium steak was super tough. I suspected that I ordered the wrong one. If I encounter such a situation again in the future, I will have to argue. I will bear with it this time... The hotel is in a very good location, convenient to everywhere."

"Staff lovely. That's about it. We had 2 rooms. One of which had an aircon system full of dust blowing onto us. We needed that because in this extreme heat, all windows were sealed. Cold tap wouldn't turn off, dust x just appalling for the price of £200. Room 2, extremely warm, no opening windows. Nice fan to blow the lovely warm and dry air around the room. Impossible to sleep. No ice apparently in this £200 a night hotel. As for breakfast, WOW. I'm 66 and I truly do not believe I have experienced such a poor offering. Cold eggs, fried or nothing. No water available, only if requested from staff. Tea and coffee available through those 1970s machine things that you push on the top. Plain greek yoghurt available, pity that there was absolutely no fruit available. No vegetarian options in hot selection. Awful, awful, awful. Of course,this is just my personal opinion and does not necessarily represent the views of the managers or shareholders of the McDonald hotel group."

"Absolutely fabulous stay from booking to departure after being let down by a previous booking. Apartment had everything needed for a comfortable stay with just a short walk into Chester. Hosts went above and beyond even leaving me a bottle of prosecco for my birthday. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting somewhere to stay in Chester Tips Apartment is over 3 floors so may not be great for anyone with mobility issues and similarly parking is around a 10 minute walk away"
