"We were really impressed as soon as we arrived at this accommodation. It was completely one of those places where you walk in and immediately think, “Wow, I just want to relax here.”
The accommodation was rebuilt about a year and a half ago, and everything is beautifully designed with traditional wood and stone. The highlight for us was the beautiful inner courtyard and garden. It’s such a peaceful and charming space, especially in the evening, when you can just sit down, relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
Our original room didn’t have a view, but because there weren’t many guests, the owner kindly upgraded us for free to another room with an amazing view. We had a huge window overlooking the rooftops and houses of Shaxi, and the view was absolutely beautiful.
The room itself was also excellent: very spacious, with a huge and extremely comfortable bed, comfortable pillows, a large TV (although we didn’t actually use it!), and everything you could need. The bathroom was spacious, clean and well equipped, with a big shower and all the necessary amenities. Honestly, it was a wonderful room.
And it’s not just our room — the whole accommodation is beautiful. We simply happened to be lucky enough to receive an upgrade to one with a view.
The location is also fantastic. You are right in the historic heart of Shaxi, so you can enjoy being surrounded by the old town and its traditional atmosphere while still having this incredibly peaceful place to come back to.
Finally, a special mention to the owner, who was extremely kind and helpful. We wanted to rent an electric scooter to explore the area, and she helped us arrange everything and find one. She really made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay. A beautiful, peaceful and charming place, with an amazing courtyard, great rooms, a fantastic location and a very welcoming owner. We would definitely stay here again!"

I booked a standard double room, and my first thought upon arrival was, ”Wow, the bed is HUGE!”
I initially expected a regular room, but it turned out to be a charming, ancient-town-style guesthouse with a lot of character. The room was much bigger than I imagined, very spacious, and spotlessly clean.
The room had a lot of wooden elements, really capturing the feel of Shaxi Ancient Town. There was also a large window with a view outside, so the room never felt stuffy and had great natural light during the day.
They even provided a tea set in the room, perfect for sitting down and slowly enjoying a cup of tea 🍵.
After a long day of walking around the ancient town or after a big meal, coming back to the room, brewing a cup of tea, and slowly relaxing and digesting was incredibly comfortable.
Especially one evening when it was raining and there wasn't much to do outside, I just came back to the room and quietly enjoyed a hot cup of tea.
Outside, the sound of rain; inside, the warmth of hot tea and the wooden space.
At that moment, I truly felt that travel doesn't always have to be packed with activities every day. Sometimes, just quietly staying in like this is also a very enjoyable way to travel 🤍.
The guesthouse owner was also very warm and friendly, making me feel very comfortable.
If I come back to Shaxi again, I'd probably choose to stay here again~"

"Clean and tidy, with super comfortable bedding and towels, ensuring a truly peaceful stay. The hosts are incredibly kind and welcoming; they contacted me beforehand to help with luggage pick-up and drop-off, answered all my questions, and were attentive throughout my stay. This place offers exceptional value for money, with top-notch service and experience, yet the price is very reasonable.
**Surroundings:** The location is superb, right in the heart of Shaxi Ancient Town. Just outside is the famous photo spot from 'Meet Yourself,' popularized by Liu Yifei, making it incredibly convenient for getting around. The parking lot is only 100 meters from the guesthouse, so driving is completely stress-free.
**Parking Convenience:** Full marks! The parking lot is close, and the host even helps with luggage, which is a huge relief!"

"I stayed here for three days with my kids during our vacation, and overall it was a great experience.
The public areas are absolutely beautiful, showcasing the owner's excellent taste. It's clear they are very meticulous about cleanliness; the entire guesthouse feels impeccably spotless, almost as if it has germophobia.
The service was also outstanding. Breakfast every morning was something we really looked forward to. One morning, I drank three cups of coffee, and they kept refilling it for me – they were so kind! And you absolutely *must* try the rice noodles; they're incredibly delicious, much better than anything you'd find outside. The most touching moment was when I did my laundry and went out before hanging it to dry. By the time I returned, it had already been hung up for me. Yes, there's a laundry room where you can wash your clothes yourself, and a lovely small garden balcony for drying, which was very convenient.
However, I do need to mention a couple of issues. The bed was quite uncomfortable for me. The mattress quality wasn't great; you could hear the springs creak and compress whenever someone turned over, and the support wasn't very good, making it feel like there weren't enough springs inside. The duvet also seemed to be a cotton quilt rather than a down comforter, so it felt heavier and less airy. On the first night, I couldn't fall asleep until 3 AM because of the uncomfortable bed. But since every other aspect of the guesthouse was so good, I decided to tough it out rather than change accommodations. During showers, the hot and cold water would occasionally fluctuate, but considering it's a guesthouse, this is understandable.
So, during my stay, I was constantly torn about whether to recommend it to friends. The public areas and service are impeccable, but the in-room experience could definitely be improved.
In terms of convenience, the guesthouse is surrounded by excellent establishments, including a fantastic pizza place and the wonderful Jiama coffee shop right by the river. It's also easy to get a taxi since it's close to the main road. I think the location is unbeatable – truly a quiet oasis in a bustling area.
If you're not as particular about your sleep as I am, I would highly recommend it."

Besides the brand-new towels, the room also provided complimentary disposable bath and face towels (this is the first time I've seen this in my many trips to Yunnan), and Ms. Duan even encouraged me to take them home. Although the guesthouse is a bit further from the bustling center of the ancient town, it's only about a 7-minute walk, and I even inadvertently passed by the spot where the 'Fairy Sister' had her phone knocked over. This guesthouse definitely earns a permanent spot on my Shaxi favorites list."

The room we were assigned was right by the stairwell, so you could hear anyone going up and down the stairs very clearly. The hotel's location is indeed very good, but it's at one of the scenic spot entrances, so early in the morning you can hear tour groups gathering downstairs, talking about their routes and注意事项 (things to pay attention to), which will wake you up in no time.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, assisting with luggage upstairs and picking us up from the parking lot. The quiet hours within the scenic area are from 10 PM, which is convenient for travelers, but also means it's impossible to rest during the day as tourists are constantly taking photos outside the window, making it impossible to open the curtains."

Guest UserI stayed here for four or five days straight, and it was truly wonderful! The shower had a huge overhead rainfall showerhead with great water pressure, and the room's soundproofing was excellent. Every morning, the landlady would prepare a lovely breakfast. The entire building probably only has six or seven rooms. There were too many people taking photos in the scenic area, so I ended up taking all my pictures downstairs at the guesthouse – they turned out great! The owner can offer pick-up and drop-off to Shaxi Ancient Town (it's very close), or you can use the guesthouse's electric scooter for free. The hotel's location is convenient for getting anywhere, and there's also free parking for cars, which was a lifesaver since we drove all the way from Dali Airport!

We absolutely loved our stay at Shaxi Kogongdi Hotel and would definitely stay here again!
The location is fantastic — right along the old street, with plenty of shops, cafés and restaurants just a few steps away. It’s the perfect location for exploring Shaxi on foot.
The room was beautiful, comfortable and very well equipped, with lots of thoughtful amenities included throughout our stay. We especially loved all the little experiences and treats that came with the room — welcome snacks, afternoon tea, a tea experience, Bai Jiamai experience, goodnight dessert, breakfast and coffee. Everything was thoughtfully prepared and really added to the overall experience.
The breakfast was also excellent. It was a semi-buffet with a selection of items, followed by the famous Over-the-Bridge Noodles, which were freshly ordered and prepared after we were seated. It was such a nice way to start the day.
The service was one of the highlights of our stay. Everyone we met was incredibly warm, friendly and attentive. Our child was celebrating his birthday during the trip, and the hotel thoughtfully prepared a birthday cake and a little birthday card for him. It was such a sweet gesture and made our stay even more special❤️
We also stayed with our child, so there was an additional RMB350 compulsory charge which allowed us to open the sofa bed. It was worth noting, but the sofa bed was comfortable and the room worked well for our family.
The only minor downside is the location itself — because the hotel is located right on the old cobbled street, cars cannot drive directly to the hotel. However, the hotel contacted us in advance to arrange our arrival time and came out to meet us, helped with our luggage and walked us to the hotel. So although we had to walk a short distance, the staff made the whole process very easy and convenient.
Overall, we had such a lovely and memorable stay. The beautiful location, thoughtful inclusions, comfortable room and genuinely warm service made this one of our favourite stays in Shaxi. We would happily return and highly recommend it, especially for families looking for a charming stay right in the heart of the old town.

I'm already home but still thinking about my three days in Shaxi!!!
1. Location + Parking 🅿️: The guesthouse was very easy to find, and since we drove, we wanted a place with parking. There's a small road in front of the guesthouse where you can park, which was very convenient 😊.
2. Ambiance: As soon as we stepped out of the car and entered, we were pleasantly surprised. It's a very comfortable and stylish courtyard. When we didn't go out, sitting in the courtyard and having some tea was incredibly relaxing. I also loved the room's decor – it was clean, hygienic, and had a subtle, pleasant aroma. There were small tables and chairs outside the room where we could relax.
3. Service: The guesthouse owner, the front desk lady, and the auntie were all super nice and enthusiastic. They gave us great tips for exploring the ancient town, and their daily greetings felt like catching up with old friends. (The breakfast was really delicious!)
There's also a super cute cat named Huanhuan at the guesthouse!!!! So spiritual!! And very friendly!!! Every time I came back, I'd look for the cat first, haha!!!
Overall, it was a very happy and relaxing trip! If I get a chance to visit Shaxi again, I'll definitely stay here again 🥰.

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Shaxi Guichen Boutique Homestay, and it easily exceeded expectations in many aspects.
First and foremost, the hospitality here truly stands out. The landlady was incredibly warm, welcoming, and attentive throughout our stay. She went out of her way to introduce nearby attractions and local spots, which made exploring Shaxi much easier and more meaningful. She also helped us arrange an e-bike rental, which turned out to be one of the best ways to get around and discover the surrounding areas.
The room itself was spotless, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. Cleanliness is clearly a top priority here, with many guests highlighting the same consistently high standards, often comparing it to much higher-end properties . The bed was cozy, and the overall environment made it very easy to relax and unwind after a day out.
The homestay has a very charming and quaint atmosphere, especially at night. The courtyard and surroundings give off a peaceful, almost storybook-like vibe that really adds to the overall experience. It’s located just a short distance from Shaxi Ancient Town, making it convenient while still being quiet and away from the crowds. Many reviews also mention the easy access to the old town and nearby attractions, whether by short ride or walk .
What I really appreciated is that Shaxi itself has so much to explore beyond just the main old town. From scenic countryside rides to hidden spots and cultural sites, there’s plenty to do if you’re willing to venture out—and this homestay is a great base for it.

This guesthouse has a story to tell. There's a 530-year-old ancient tree right by the entrance, home to a family of squirrels. As soon as I entered the room, I found a pair of chestnut-dyed cloth squirrels placed on the bed. Lying on the third-floor bed, the old tree glowed with life under the setting sun. The indigo-dyed soft couch on the terrace made me fall in love with Yunnan's sunshine, and the abundant flowers and plants everywhere showed the owner's passion for life. The guesthouse manager and the young lady's tea and dishes were unforgettable; that elegant, down-to-earth charm makes me want to return to this place again and again.

The design is really impressive, with a natural wood and Song Dynasty-inspired aesthetic that perfectly matches Shaxi's rustic charm. The courtyard with its flowing water, wooden corridors, and the gentle, Zen-like atmosphere as soon as you open the door is just lovely 🍃. The room was spacious and comfortable, the bedding was so soft, and the bathroom facilities were convenient and clean. After a shower, curling up in bed and watching 'Meet Yourself' just melted away all the day's fatigue. There's 24-hour butler service and afternoon tea upon check-in – sipping tea, listening to the wind, and watching the fish play in the pond amidst the misty atmosphere was truly relaxing 🐟. Waking up early, enjoying breakfast, and then just gazing out the window at the scenery, listening to the wind and rain, is truly living that slow-paced 'wind-filled' life.

The facilities are comprehensive. They have a smart toilet 🚽, a hairdryer, and the shower has great hot water pressure. The ground floor was surprisingly clean; I expected it to be damp with mosquitoes, so I brought repellent but didn't even need it. They provide mosquito repellent in the room, and even disposable toilet seat covers – so thoughtful! The ground-floor rooms offer great value for money.
The service is excellent. Breakfast 🥣 is provided daily and, most importantly, it's freshly prepared by an auntie, not pre-made. That's truly amazing! 👏
Overall, it's great value for money, and the location is absolutely superb. Everything is within walking distance, like the Ancient Opera Stage, Yujin Bridge, and Youfeng Xiaoguan restaurant. They also offer luggage transfer service 🧳. Next time I visit Shaxi, I will definitely consider staying here again.

Guest UserI had a fantastic trip there! The place is lovely, built all in wood, with plants and cats all around, and a nice rooftop with a view on the mountains. Everything is clean and it's very silent at night.
But the best part came from the guests, I felt like in a family. Unlike my previous hostels in Yunnan, most guests could speak English, which helped feeling closer. A lot of people are staying there for weeks because of the great atmosphere. I stayed only two nights but felt sad to leave everyone.
