"Do NOT choose this hotel for skiing!! Unless it's half the price during the same period, I'll never pick this place again. Prioritize other hotels with shuttle buses to Otaru Station.
First, the location: This is Otaru-Chikko Station, two stops away from Otaru Station. The nearest convenience store is a 10-minute walk outside. Although there's a mall downstairs, its operating hours are 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM, which is the only time you can use the indoor passage. Most restaurants close around 7 PM, so it's really inconvenient to find food after skiing.
Second, it's really old! The carpet in my room type was dirty, the bed was rock hard, and the pillow felt like a worn-out cotton pillow – small and flat. The worst part is that after sleeping, my head developed small bumps and became very itchy!! I don't know if it was fleas, but it made me scratch my head for the next few days. The hygiene is truly concerning.
This hotel has no coin-operated washing machines or laundry rooms, only individual dry cleaning, which is very expensive. This is super inconvenient for skiers staying for an extended period.
frankly, the only good thing about this hotel is the room size; everything else is a huge letdown."

"The B&B's location is pretty good and convenient, with a convenience store right outside. The interior is beautiful and thoughtfully detailed. The front desk service was just okay, nothing special. The room itself was clean and tidy, but when we turned on the heater, there was a strong, persistent kerosene smell that was really unpleasant."

"The hotel is so lovely. There is a Lawson just literally 1 min walk away and the surroundings have eateries to fill your tummies if you don't feel like venturing out.
The location allows you to walk towards the Otaru Canal in less than 10 min. Very good location I would say.
The room we got is of a decent size for two, is clean and we even have a nice City/ Seaview. Parking lot is just beside the hotel hence great for those who drives to Otaru."

"We had such a great time here even though we only
spent one night here. The rooms were clean, and the service was really good. It's a bit of a walk from Otaru Station, but I would still consider the location as convenient because it's just right across Otaru Canal and walkable to many other sights and restaurants. The rooms were quite spacious by Japanese standards. Overall, we had a really great stay in this hotel and would definitely stay here again when we visit Otaru again in the future."

"The main building for check-in is really close to JR station. Just exit, go straight, turn left after you see Lawson, and then another left at the intersection. It's about 400 meters. The hotel is spread out in several areas. After check-in, the staff told us our villa was another 10-minute walk away. Luckily, there's a shuttle service both ways. It meant we were quite a distance from the onsen, but that was okay since we'd already had plenty of hot spring baths on our trip.
I was pleasantly surprised by the villa's location – it was fantastic! Tucked away in an alley near the shopping street along the canal. The space was huge and well-equipped, and having an entire standalone villa was incredibly comfortable. I didn't encounter any of the issues other reviewers mentioned, so I'm very satisfied!"

"The hotel's location is superb, within walking distance to Otaru Canal and Sankaku Market. The hotel design is elegant and refined, with a vintage touch. The 5-person loft room feels spacious. "The room was quiet and comfortable, and the location was super convenient, right by the canal downstairs. The on-site hot springs were also a fantastic experience! Definitely a perfect score! The cafe downstairs had a wonderful atmosphere, great for reading, working, or journaling. And the breakfast buffet was high quality too! "Room in dorm spacious. We have place for suitcase, and we can move freely in the room. Big sharing bathroom. Clean and well located. 10min from the train station. Very convenient and easy to self check in after 7pm.
inconvenient: smell of food in the room, miss a small shelf: I'm not used to sleep under my phone(...-_-) and the light of the bed, is really low. We can't even read.

GGuest UserThis was the best hotel of our trip. From check-in to check-out, we felt the warmth and saw the smiles of the staff throughout. The included dinner was delicious and exquisite. The set breakfast was also pretty good. The hotel offers a variety of entertainment activities and facilities, so you won't get bored at all, and the environment is beautiful. The only downside is that the soundproofing isn't great; you can hear doors opening and closing from upstairs and next door.

CChubby Girl On TourI had a great stay at this hotel. The room was spacious and included two bottles of water, coffee, and tea. While the view overlooked a blank space behind the building, the quality of the bed and pillows was excellent. I found the bathroom to be slightly larger than expected.
The reception area was spacious, and the staff were friendly and spoke English, which made communication easy. There were two breakfast options available: Western and Japanese. I personally chose the Japanese breakfast, priced at 3,000 Yen. The quality and portion were good.
The hotel is conveniently located within a 10-minute walk from Otaru JR Station, as well as Sakaimachi Hondori Street and Otaru Canal. Additionally, there is a convenience store directly across the street, along with several night restaurants. I did find the price a bit high, possibly due to the Otaru Snow Light Path Festival taking place during my stay. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for its comfort and location.

AAnonymous UserIt was a cute boutique hotel with nice bonus facilities! Room is nicely designed and functional, with warm colors feel homey and comfy. Too bad we didn’t get the bath tub room as they were fully booked. Views from the window is mountaneous area, very nice! Bed and pillows are comfortable. Surface area for stuff are generous and practical, even enough space for sofa. Too bad they don’t give free coffee or at least instant coffee, only tea. No onsen. Music box night was awesome! Feels like a romantic dinner setting, but the smell of lamp oil was too much, gave me headache so I couldn’t stay for long, even though I would love to support the hotels and all of the polite and friendly staff by dining there. Staff are wonderful, smiles and polite and professional! During this trip we felt like Japanese staff in general are becoming a bit cold toward tourists but this hotel’s staff are not like that! We appreciate you guys. Thank you!

GGuest UserStayed at Sho Inn for 1 night in Otaru. It’s a little out of the way from the Otaru station if you do not drive, but they offer shuttle service to the Otaru Canal and Otaru station when you check out! The host Hideshi was incredibly kind, even going the extra mile to bring my neck pillow, which I had accidentally left in the accommodation after check out, to the Otaru station at my preferred time that evening. It was a gesture testament of the great hospitality of the Japanese. Would definitely recommend this place especially if you’re a solo traveller / prefer your own private space instead of going to those hostels with double deckered beds and curtains!

SsweetknellneuThis guesthouse seems to be run by Chinese owners, which is nice. My room was right by the entrance. After checking in at the front desk, I couldn't find it until I turned around... it felt a bit like sleeping in a guardhouse. The soundproofing isn't great either. Because of its peculiar location, it gets very noisy in the mornings. And the room next door seems to be a staff office, which also generates a lot of noise. However, the room was warm and clean, perfect for a night's sleep, and the price was excellent. The only downside is that it didn't have a private bathroom. The common areas were clean and there was even coffee available, which was a pleasant touch.

Only downside there is no food nearby by the hotel itself has 2 restaurant. The Japanese one was superb, good food with reasonable price, sadly only open few days a week.

GGuest UserIf you are not driving, this place is a best place to stay with as overall house amenities are comfortable, modern and feeling good.
But for anyone driving there, do consider again as the journey towards to the carpark are slippery, more than 10degree slope, it is dangerous and scarry to me eventhough equipped with snow tyre even though for myself that have been driving in many countries in Europe, Asia and Australia.

XXinshanshangyangThis hotel is super close to Otaru Station and the canal, just a few minutes' walk away. Right across the street, there's a 7-Eleven and a grocery store, plus tons of great food options nearby. It's incredibly clean, and the pure cotton bedding makes for a really comfortable sleep. The owner is also very kind! It's an ideal place to stay, and I'd definitely come back again!
