Amazing
AamychowkwLove this ryokan! The service was just amazing! We arrived the ryokan feeling cold and asked where we could get some heat pads and was told that since the ryokan provides free shuttle to train station, they could send us to convenient store. And before it, the staff came back with some mini heat pads for us to use for the meanwhile. There was also paid shuttle to snow monkey park (500 yen per pax one way) that you can arrange with them. We had a tatami room, it was spacious and the staff came to the room to do the check in and served tea and welcome snack to us. The ryokan guests are entitled to go to nine onsens around the area for free. The ryokan provides yukatas and all necessities for it. The meals were sumptuous and super yummy. Overall, a fantastic ryokan experience for us!
DDunwoWow!
An amazing little Ryoukan in a lovely town with fantastic owners.
This ryoukan is a traditional old fashioned style with a lovely private onsen in pictures
The room was large and your right on top of one of the 9 onsens.
As a ryoukan in the town you will have access to the 9 healing onsens which you can use at your leisure and complete the denyouko towel for blessings
The onsen is run by a lovely lady who is really friendly.
Typical Amenities included plus free yukata and geta to borrow whilst your walking between hot springs plus free cold milk which is just heavenly after a hot soak. Honestly the cold milk really made my day!! 🥰
Air conditioning was very effective considering the size of the room and the breakfast was too much to finish and offered a taste of everything
Lastly you are on top of the onsens as soon as you step out and monkey park is a 25 minute walk north but talk with the Owner, she has a link to the Monkey security cameras so can tell you ahead of time if theres any up there to see currently (i went during Estrus season so no monkeys for me)
When it came to checkout the lady gave me a small bento of Onigiri and Pastries and even drove me down to the local station
10/10 would stay again
GGuest UserThis is one of the best place I stay for my entire trip. It is a family run traditional ryokan with not many rooms hence the service was great and professional. They provide us a free shuttle from the Yudanaka Station to the hotel as well as the shuttle service to the snow monkey park area.
I booked the room with breakfast and dinner included so I was quite impressed on the quality of the meals prepared for us. Very happy with it and we are super full after the meals.
All in all we are happy with our stay and would highly recommend it to all.
Ppuisan fongThis ryokan is the furthest from Main Street. But I love the hospitality from the owner and the authenticity of this place. There is a private onsen available in the ryokan, just need to pre register. They provide access to shibu onsen as well.
Recommended to book your dinner with them. Restaurants in shibu onsen either close very early or not open regularly. We missed our dinner, but the owner is kind enough to prepare a simple oyakudon for us.
Though this place is at the beginning of forest trail to snow monkey park. But it is close during winter. Just take note.
NnikonikolizThis hotel is definitely an older building and it does show. It’s well maintained but know that going into making a booking here!
The staff are really incredible, I had an incident with my door and they immediately fixed the problem for me. Additionally I was hoping to get to the Snow Monkey park earlier than the shuttle service was set to depart and they were nice enough to take me!
There were some minor cleanliness things like cobwebs and the fridge had a slight mildew scent to it that made me weary to put anything open inside. Additionally there was no hair dryer, I probably could have asked because it’s such a staple amenity but I was in a rush and never did.
It’s about a 7 minute walk from the station and there’s a Lawson and Pharmacy en route if you need to grab anything. It’s about 4 minutes from a bus that can take you deeper into the area with more food and shops too. There isn’t much else in this area but it is about an hour from central Nagano.
If you’re a solo traveler looking to explore the area but not wanting to spend too much on one of the famous ryokan’s in the area, I definitely recommend!
GGuest UserLocated just within 3min from Yudanaka station, Raki Onsenryokan is run by a Chinese family. As a quiet town on its own, no one was tending to the reception when I arrived, after ringing the bell, a lady came down to help with the check in - very straightforward. I believe the family stays in the same building as they said if we ever needed anything, we could just ring the bell at the reception. Obviously I had booked a room too big for a solo traveller as this was the only room left as ”non-smoking”. Toilet and sink are at two different parts of the room which was a little inconvenient. Ryokan offers free drive (15min) TO snow monkey park, but not return, so please cater at least 35min to walk from park exit to the bus stop. Ryokan also provided a hearty breakfast, overall for the price paid it was a decent stay!
GGuest UserThe reality exceeded my expectations; the hotel was even better than I imagined. The room was very comfortable for a family with a small child! There's a private hot spring for families available by reservation, though the usage time is a bit short, it's still great overall! The food is high-quality, delicious, and varied. It's also possible to extend your stay for 1000 yen per hour, which is super convenient when traveling with a child. The hotel corridors aren't perfectly clean due to age, but the room itself is clean and pleasant.
GGuest UserShiga Palace Hotel is a great choice for its location alone—set right in the mountains, it offers easy access to the surrounding area and beautiful scenery that really adds to the experience. One of the highlights was the buffet meals. The food was plentiful, varied, and satisfying, making it easy to refuel after a long day of exploring.
The rooms were very traditional Japanese style, which felt authentic and fitting for the setting. While simple, they gave a true sense of staying in a classic Japanese hotel. The communal onsen was also a memorable experience—relaxing, cultural, and something everyone should try at least once while visiting Japan.
Overall, the location and meals are major pluses, and the traditional rooms and onsen make this hotel a unique and enjoyable stay.
GGuest UserWe really enjoyed our stay at Shiga Kogen Sunvalley hotel. It's only a 20 mins bus ride from the Snow Monkey Park. The bus stop (S15) is about 100m away but when it's heavily snowing, it could be a little difficult to pull your luggage across the road. During the winter season, there's a free shuttle bus that takes you around the different resorts. The hotel also has ski rentals and the pricing is very reasonable and convenient for hotel guests to pickup and drop-off. The onsite onsen and sauna is clean and well maintained. We had breakfast included - food selection is good with a mix of Western and Japanese cuisine. Dinner required reservation and you have a choice of Japanese set course, or a casual course. Usui and the team really know how to provide great hospitality and we really enjoyed our stay.
SShingen BusinessIt was cheap and very good!
What particularly impressed me was that the front desk staff greeted me with a smile until I left, and were polite and kind in explaining things to foreign guests. I felt very at ease ❤️
