The Chongqing Metro Map is a vital navigation tool for Canadian travellers and local commuters. Key 2026 Chongqing Metro network highlights are listed below:
- Network Scale: Covers Chongqing’s 9 major urban districts, including 11 main urban lines and 3 suburban branch lines, with a total length of over 500km and more than 300 operational stations.
- Unique Terrain & Design: Different from ordinary flat-city metro systems, it adapts to Chongqing’s mountain and river-crossing landscape, mixing underground subways and elevated monorails. Iconic Line 2 and Line 3 monorails run over hills, across rivers and through urban buildings.
Travel Convenience Tip: Canadian travellers are recommended to book accommodation near metro stations for easier sightseeing and city travel. Ideal metro-adjacent hotels can be found quickly via Trip.com’s hotel search service.
What Makes the Chongqing Metro Unique?
The Chongqing Metro boasts one-of-a-kind features that set it apart from other metro systems in China. Canadian travellers can find its unique charms via an updated Chongqing Metro Map, with key highlights below:
- Famous Through-Building Monorail: Line 2 and Line 3 are iconic elevated monorail routes. The viral Liziba Station on Line 2 allows trains to run directly through a residential high-rise, offering a rare urban transit view worldwide.
- Mountain Terrain Elevation Changes: True to Chongqing’s “mountain city” identity, the metro covers drastic altitude differences and steep slopes. Rides deliver panoramic city views that flat-land metro systems cannot provide.
- Scenic River-Crossing Sections: Multiple segments of Line 2 and Line 3 cross the Yangtze River and Jialing River, bringing stunning riverside scenery during regular metro trips.

Chongqing Metro Lines & Stations
Every operational route displayed on the Chongqing Metro Map serves a specific purpose, covering downtown business districts, tourist hotspots, transportation hubs, and remote suburban areas. Below is a detailed, structured breakdown of all 11 main lines and 3 suburban branch lines, including key stops, terminal stations, tourist access points, and unique line features.
Main Urban Metro Lines (Lines 1–6 & Line 9)
These core lines form the backbone of Chongqing’s downtown transit network, connecting major tourist zones and city centers:
Line | Type | Terminals | Key Features & Major Stations |
|---|---|---|---|
Line 1 | Underground Subway | Chaotianmen ↔ Bishan | Central historic sightseeing line; covers core cultural attractions. Key stops: Chongqing Railway Station, Ciqikou Station (Ciqikou Ancient Town), Lianglukou Station (Eling Park). |
Line 2 | Elevated Monorail | Jiaochangkou ↔ Yudong | Iconic riverside monorail line; famous for Liziba Station (train passes through a residential building). Offers continuous Yangtze River views and connects downtown leisure areas. |
Line 3 | Elevated Monorail | Yudong ↔ Jiangbei Airport T2 (branch to Juren Dam) | Chongqing’s longest monorail line. Links southern Nan’an and northern Jiangbei districts. Key stop: Nan’an Station (Nanbin Road riverside scenery). |
Line 4 | Underground Subway | Min’an Avenue ↔ Huangling | Major interchange route after 2026 west extension, connecting 7 other metro lines. Covers Guanyinqiao, Chongqing North Railway Station and Longsheng. |
Line 5 | Underground Subway | Tiaodeng North Road ↔ Tiaodeng | Serves western and southern urban districts. Acts as a key transit connector for residential and industrial zones with multiple interchange stations. |
Line 6 | Underground Subway | Chayuan ↔ Beibei (with multiple branches) | Vital north-south line covering Chongqing central CBD, business districts and major transport hubs, ideal for business and leisure travellers. |
Line 9 | Underground Subway | Huashigou ↔ Gaotanyai | Cross-city auxiliary core line, connecting eastern and northern urban residential neighborhoods and commercial centers. |
Airport & Express Lines (Lines 10 & 18, Loop Line)
These high-efficiency lines prioritize fast travel between major transport hubs and downtown areas, ideal for international travellers:
Line | Type | Terminals | Key Features & Major Stations |
|---|---|---|---|
Line 10 | Airport Express Subway | Lianhua Road ↔ Wangjiazhuang | Primary metro route for air travellers, serving both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 of Jiangbei International Airport. Offers fast, congestion-free airport-downtown transfers, and is the top choice for Canadian visitors arriving by plane. Travellers can pre-book airport transfers or compare intercity train tickets via Trip.com. |
Line 18 | Express Subway | Tiaodeng South ↔ Fuhua Road | Optimizes transit efficiency for southwestern urban districts, and reduces travel time between suburban areas and the city center. |
Loop Line | Circular Orbital Subway | Chongqing West ↔ Shapingba ↔ Chongqing West | The city’s most important interchange line for cross-city travel, seamlessly connecting all radial metro lines. Passes through key districts including Shapingba and Nanbin Road; Shapingba Station provides access to the vibrant local commercial and dining district. |
Suburban & Branch Lines (Jiangtiao, Guobo & Bitong Lines)
Located on the outer edges of the Chongqing Metro Map, these three branch lines serve Chongqing’s expanding outer suburban districts with shorter operating hours than central lines:
- Jiangtiao Line (Line 5 Branch): Operational from 06:30 to 21:30 daily, connecting suburban areas linked to Line 5’s main network for convenient downtown transfers.
- Guobo Line (Line 6 Branch): Runs from 06:30 to 22:30, serving northern suburban zones and supporting travel to suburban recreational and residential areas.
- Bitong Line: Features the earliest closing time across the entire metro network, operating from 06:10 to 21:00. Travellers visiting outer suburban areas must plan return trips early to avoid missing the last train.
Chongqing Metro Operating Hours

Understanding metro operating schedules is critical for Canadian travellers planning early morning airport arrivals, late-night sightseeing returns, or suburban day trips. The Chongqing Metro features standard universal hours and special shortened schedules for suburban branches, with minor holiday extensions available on select routes.
Chongqing Metro has clear operating hour rules for core lines and suburban branch lines. Key timetable details for Canadian travellers are listed below:
- Standard Hours (All Core Urban Lines): Operates roughly 06:30 (first train) to 23:00 (last train) from terminal stations. Intermediate stations may have 1–20 minute time differences. Always check on-site station boards or the official metro app for exact times.
- Early-Closing Suburban LinesJiangtiao Line: 06:30 – 21:30
- Guobo Line: 06:30 – 22:30
- Bitong Line: 06:10 – 21:00 (earliest closing line in the whole network)
Weekend & Holiday Extension: Most core lines extend service by 30–60 minutes on weekends and Chinese public holidays.

Practical Tips for Riding the Chongqing Metro

Chongqing’s mountain-city metro system differs greatly from North American transit networks. Below are practical tips for Canadian travellers to ensure a smooth riding experience:
- Adapt to Terrain Elevation Changes: Stations feature long staircases, steep escalators and sloped passageways due to Chongqing’s hilly landscape. Travellers with luggage or limited mobility should reserve extra time for transfers.
- Mandatory Security Checks: All metro entrances require standard security screening for passengers and luggage. Cooperate with inspections to speed up entry.
- Handle Language Barriers: Station signs and ticket machines support English, but announcements and staff conversations are mainly in Chinese. Prepare an offline translation tool or check routes via Trip.com for easy navigation.
- Follow Local Metro Etiquette: Queue orderly for tickets and boarding, offer seats to seniors and parents with children, and avoid loud noise or eating on board.
- Confirm Last Train Times: Suburban lines close early. Always check final departure times in advance to avoid being stranded. Core lines offer extended hours on weekends and holidays for late-night sightseeing.

Booked this room for a friend, and they were really happy with it. The location is fantastic, super convenient for getting around. The front desk staff, especially the ladies, were lovely and gentle. The room's decor was very comfortable and soothing, really helped calm my restless mind. I forgot to take pictures of the room, so I just snapped a quick pic of the lobby to share. Good value stay. Room is super comfortable and quiet. Executive lounge is relatively small but has a good variety of food and drinks. Breakfast is huge but area can get packed on holidays so you don’t want to seat too near the food. Location is not exactly center of the city, but close enough on a quieter, niecer neighborhood. My stay at Ascott Raffles City Chongqing was fantastic. The hotel's location is superb, right in the heart of Raffles City commercial center, with endless shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Getting around was incredibly convenient. The room itself was exceptionally spacious and bright, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Chongqing from every window. It was fully equipped with amenities like a kitchen and laundry facilities, making for a very comfortable stay – perfect for families or business travelers. A special shout-out to the hotel staff for their warm and attentive service; they were always quick to assist with everything from check-in to daily needs, which was incredibly comforting. I've been to Chongqing many times, but this was my first stay at a Kempinski. I'd seen on Trip.com that the hotel opened in 2012, so I assumed the facilities and decor might be a bit outdated. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that despite being open for 14 years, this Kempinski is still exceptionally well-maintained. The original construction materials and furnishings were clearly high-quality, luxury items, so overall, aside from the slightly older design and decor style, everything else was unexpectedly good. This includes the dining options – whether it was Elements Western Restaurant, the Beer Bar, or the Executive Lounge, the food quality was impressive. The desserts and bread, in particular, truly showcased the essence of German culinary excellence. Of course, as a boutique hotel under the GHA DISCOVERY alliance, what truly impressed me most was the service. From the welcoming attitude of the staff to the efficiency of the management team in resolving issues, it truly lives up to Kempinski's reputation as a European hotel aristocrat. Special thanks to the hotel management and operations teams for their meticulous care and excellent service during my stay. Employees like Wilson, the Director of Rooms, Paul, the Guest Services Manager, and Lucy, the Executive Lounge intern, all deserve special recognition!FromCAD 69

The location is absolutely fantastic! You step out right onto Jiefangbei, making it super convenient for food and shopping. The room was spacious, clean, and tidy, offering great value for money.
My friends and I booked a four-person suite, and it was quite large, perfect for families or groups of friends traveling together. The service was also excellent, very responsive and enthusiastic to our needs.
The only minor drawback is the lack of a dedicated lobby; several hotels share one on the ground floor. However, for tourists, there's hardly any need to relax in the lobby, so it didn't really affect our stay.FromCAD 39

The hotel is a bit hard to find, located at the very end of a road behind a car park. Reception is on the 5th floor. However, once you manage to find it, the rooms are very nice and the river views are fantastic. It's about 10 minute walk to the metro station.
When I arrived they told me that the swimming pool was out of service. It had been out of service since the end of May 2026. The hotel just told me they have now fixed it (late June 2026) but unfortunately I have already checked out. However, they provided a free room upgrade in return for not being able to use the pool.
There is only one thing I didn't quite appreciate. After I left, the hotel messaged me asking to provide a screenshot of a 5-star revie, stating that some new employees have performance requirements. I find this pressure tactic to be dishonest, and it may have affected other reviews you read, so be aware of it. I mentioned to the hotel that this was not acceptance and they immediately apologised though.

I spent a lot of time choosing a hotel for my trip to Chongqing. Some hotels had high ratings but were actually quite bad. In the end, I chose the Metropolitan Hotel, and it truly didn't disappoint.
The location is excellent. Turn right out of the hotel and walk a few steps, and you're at Jiefangbei. Daijia Alley and Hongyadong are also within walking distance. About 200 meters away is Bayi Food Street, which has an abundance of snacks, restaurants, and local specialties, making it incredibly convenient.
At the same time, it's not actually *on* Food Street, so you avoid the noise. Many hotels in Chongqing share a main entrance, with different hotels occupying different floors accessible by the same elevator, which can be chaotic. Waiting in line for the elevator wastes a lot of time. The Metropolitan Hotel, however, stands independently and quietly, which is rare and fantastic for a hotel in a tourist area!
The hotel's service was also very thoughtful, leaving me with a wonderful impression of Chongqing's local culture as soon as I arrived.
Although the hotel faces the street, the room was very quiet. Breakfast was also plentiful. However, I have one small suggestion: the hairdryer is a bit old-fashioned; it would be even better if it could be replaced with a newer model.
I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit. Highly recommended!FromCAD 120

The facilities are a bit old, but generally well-maintained. I stayed on the 26th floor and the room had a damp smell, which wasn't great. The windows felt like they weren't there at all; they provided no soundproofing. The showerhead was leaking and needs to be replaced. The elevators in the public areas felt like they had no AC, were very hot at noon, and were slow.
Hygienics: Meets Hyatt standards.
Environment: Meets Hyatt standards.
Service: So-so. After 10 PM, there was no answer when calling room service.
Location: Good, quiet yet central. There are many shopping areas nearby, making it very convenient for dining and shopping.
Other: The executive lounge's food was average with no live cooking stations. The pool has a hot tub and dry sauna, but the water quality was mediocre. Overall, everything is quite old.FromCAD 103

I have to give a five-star review to Xiao Cai at the Sheraton Chongqing Hotel's Executive Lounge! At the end of May, I called to inquire about the Executive Lounge benefits, mentioning I was traveling with a child. Xiao Cai was incredibly thoughtful, directly granting us two Executive Lounge accesses and proactively upgrading our room. Her service was warm, attentive, and particularly heartwarming.

I thoroughly enjoyed staying at this property. Everyone was so nice and kind. The service was top- notch. The amenities were plenty and easy accessible. A few extras that made everything worth it were the full- sized refrigerator, with freezer, the washing machine (for which they provided soap as well), dish washer, stove top, towel drier ( in the washroom) and full sized closet. The view was so beautiful and calming as well. Everything about this room was just so nice and exactly what I needed.
I didn’t realize how perfect the location was in relation to almost everything that I wanted to see. When I figured that out, I just got up every day and walked to everything that I needed or wanted to see. It was extremely close to a lot of restaurants, malls, local shops and smaller attractions. I was less than a 10 -15 minute walk to Raffles City Shopping Center where there is a 5 story mall, Movie theatre, roof top attraction with the swing, SKY WALK and also the river front park with amazing views. Same distance for Hongyadong, the viewing platform, the Qiansemen Bridge- if you wanted to walk across the bridge at night- I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! There is so much to see and experience between the hotel and these attractions. Your days will be filled with fun and adventure.

Definitely not recommended on WARM DAYS because the hotel will turn off AC completely. I stayed at this hotel from 5/8 to 5/11, In-room HVAC only worked on daytime when outdoor temperature reached about 30 degrees, in room temperature was cooling down and comfortable enough. However, the hotel shut down AC system at night because outdoor temperature is not hot enough, that leading to in room temperature went back to 27 degrees, I got totally sleepless. Understood the hotel tried to save money on electricity, but AC system is the one of basic amenity systems and should not shut down the mostly of the days.
Moldy grout, moldy caulking are all around the shower, the picture attached. Non adjustable shower head with fixed holder need upgraded. That shows lack of the maintenance for rooms.

It offers a very serene and relaxing atmosphere, perfect for unwinding and clearing your mind. The private hot spring on the room's balcony is incredibly comfortable and great for alleviating fatigue. Owen provided exceptional service. The hotel's design is very distinctive, with every room offering views of the Jialing River.FromCAD 680

The room was really nice, with a huge bed. The private hot spring filled up quickly with thermal water. Xiao Zhang at the front desk was very welcoming and check-in was smooth, with great service. After a late-night soak, I called for room service at midnight and the bathrobes were delivered promptly. The lamb hot pot in the set meal had a generous amount of lamb and offal. The breakfast buffet was much more abundant than standard, and the pea and ground pork noodles were especially delicious. Nanquan hot spring is right across from the hotel, so the location is excellent.FromCAD 91

The hotel is currently undergoing renovations, which made access a bit inconvenient. Right outside, there's a small stream where children can play in the water and catch crabs, which they absolutely loved. The hotel breakfast offered a good variety of options. For lunch and dinner, we dined at Tianxing Town, right opposite the hotel. Most restaurants there served similar fare. However, I'd strongly advise against a place called 'Nongjia Cai' (Farmer's Dishes). Their ventilation was terrible, making it very smoky and unpleasant to eat. On top of that, they charged a 4 RMB seating fee even for our 3-year-old, a charge that none of the other restaurants in the area imposed.FromCAD 49

The hotel location is very strategically located. Walking distance to many attractions including Hongyadong. The staff is very helpful specially the front desk lady with number 3 badge. She helped us call and rebook our flight at past 02:00 in the morning.
Rooms are clean and always generous with water and sometimes even gives us soda for free.
There’s also a laundry room which is very convenient.
Overall we had a great stay in the hotel.

The hotel's location is great, and security guard Qi Feng is very warm and friendly. Because it was raining, he proactively asked if I needed a taxi and even walked me to the door with an umbrella – he's a truly wonderful person. However, the cleaning staff are far too noisy. Around 8 AM, they repeatedly open and close about four or five doors along the corridor leading to the fire exit, making incredibly loud noises. This has woken me up early for two consecutive mornings. I hope this can be improved, as it was the same last year when I stayed, and it really affects guests' rest.FromCAD 100

The highlight of my Chongqing trip was definitely this hotel, a solid five-star rating! I brought my daughter here, and she really wanted to see Changjiang International. So, I booked the Radisson Blu as it's the closest one. The service at this five-star hotel was exceptional. On check-in day, I mentioned to the front desk that my daughter wanted to see Changjiang International, and Xiao Li at the front desk upgraded us to a Changjiang International River View room. A huge thank you to Xiao Li for making my daughter's fan-girl trip even more special – she even managed to snap photos of the Teens in Times boys leaving work! After we checked out, my daughter realized she'd forgotten her watch charger in the room. The duty manager, Xiao Zhang, called us and even helped us arrange for it to be shipped back via SF Express. Thumbs up to her!FromCAD 86

Every time I visit Guanyin Bridge, I stay at Gaoyue. This time I came with a friend, and the front desk lady even upgraded our room for free! It was my first time sleeping in such a big bed. The room was clean, the shower had great hot water, and it was quiet at night, so I slept well. I'll definitely choose Gaoyue again next time I'm in Chongqing.FromCAD 40

After comparing a few options, here are my thoughts:
I really liked the Regent's Chinese-inspired style – very elegant and grand. However, the room rates were too high, and river view rooms even more so.
Next up was the InterContinental. The views of the Bund and the river were perfect, but the room decor was a bit plain and uninspiring, and the price was also on the higher side.
Then there were places like the Indigo and various other modern, high-rise hotels with river views; their postmodern style just isn't for me.
So, why did I end up choosing the Westin? It was a balanced decision. The room had a decent elevation and a respectable river view. The price increase during the Dragon Boat Festival was acceptable, and the Executive Room offered afternoon tea and light meals, saving me the hassle of finding food outside.
There were some downsides though: The afternoon tea was too simple (only three types of small cakes, and ordinary fruit). The light meals seemed designed to make you wonder if you'd forgotten breakfast, with half the items being breakfast foods. For protein, there was only chicken breast – they really cut corners on cost! It was the worst executive lounge I've experienced in any hotel.
Breakfast was good, though. I was happy with the Western bread and cheese. The Chinese section was quite mediocre, perhaps because this hotel has more foreign guests than domestic ones.
The room itself was fine, but there were no proper facilities for boiling water and making tea; I had to make do at the washbasin.FromCAD 195

Traveling with my daughter after her college entrance exams, I intuitively picked this hotel from a list recommended by a friend, despite its tongue-twisting name which I still can't remember after three days. We arrived a little after 11 AM, and the front desk mentioned our booked room wasn't ready but offered an immediate upgrade. We took it and got an Executive River View Twin Room on the 59th floor. The river view was stunning, and the room itself was clean, bright, and comfortable – perfect for younger guests! After three days, here are the highlights:
1. **Impeccable Service:** The service was incredibly thoughtful and attentive. Every time we returned, our room was spotless and tidied. The bath mat and slippers were always neatly placed in a convenient spot, and each night, a thoughtful touch like a face mask or a steam eye mask was left on the bedside table. The complimentary in-room snacks were also delicious.
2. **Exquisite Breakfast:** The breakfast was both refined and tasty. The restaurant is on the 62nd floor. At first glance, the food selection seemed average, but upon closer inspection, I realized that despite the compact space, the breakfast spread was surprisingly comprehensive. The refrigerated display offered beautiful and healthy options like salads in glass jars and a variety of flavored yogurts.
3. **Prime Location:** The location is superb, with the two rivers practically at your doorstep. Downstairs, there's a high-end commercial district, and both Jiefangbei and Hongyadong are within easy walking distance.
**Minor Drawback:** The high floor and fast elevators might be uncomfortable for guests over 60 years old.FromCAD 262

I was extremely satisfied with my stay this time; I absolutely have to give this hotel a huge thumbs-up!
The hotel's service was incredibly thoughtful. The staff were warm, attentive, and always ready to help. We arrived very late, and it was quite cold, but the hotel immediately arranged an extra bed for us and even brought a small heater, which made us feel incredibly warm and welcome right away.
The surrounding scenery is also beautiful. The grasslands are lush and expansive, and the air is fresh, making it a very comfortable place to be. It's also lovely and cool in the summer. I stayed in a king room with a distant view, and the room had an excellent vantage point with amazing views outside the window. Waking up to such scenery every day put me in a great mood.FromCAD 115

Whenever I go to Chongqing, I always visit Guanghuan Plaza, which reminded me of this hotel nearby. After checking in, all I can say is that I got a five-star hotel experience for less than 800 yuan. First, let's talk about the room layout: two 1.35-meter single beds can be combined to form a massive 2.7-meter double bed. This is perfect if you're staying with kids – plenty of space. The room also has a bathtub, and crucially, it came with disposable bathtub liners (I forget the exact term!). Plus, the children's amenities provided were really good quality, not just an afterthought. What's even more impressive is that they placed dental floss right on the vanity – all the little touches were delightful. The product manager truly deserves commendation. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Chongqing.
Oh, and the breakfast buffet was excellent too, with a wide variety of delicious food. What really blew me away was finding steamed red dates at a buffet for the first time – that's a treat I usually only get at home!FromCAD 120

My stay at Orange Crystal Hotel was truly an experience that exceeded my expectations! The hotel's location is absolutely fantastic; the subway station is right outside, and taking a taxi to the main shopping districts is just a starting fare. There are plenty of dining options and attractions nearby, making getting around incredibly convenient. As soon as you enter the lobby, you're greeted by a refreshing fragrance. The front desk staff were efficient and welcoming during check-in, and they thoughtfully provided welcome fruits and complimentary floral tea and coffee. The room was spacious and bright, spotlessly clean, and the electronic curtains and smart devices were very easy to use. What impressed me most were the bedding and soundproofing. The mattress was soft and comfortable, and with the windows closed, it was incredibly quiet, allowing even someone like me who's particular about beds to sleep soundly through the night. The breakfast offered a wide variety of choices, combining Western and Chinese dishes, along with local specialties – definitely highly recommended!FromCAD 79

Traveling to Chongqing with my child, I compared several hotels before buying a group deal for this one online. It's truly well-suited for families. The twin room offers plenty of space for kids to run around comfortably. The entire room is very clean, and the bedding is soft and skin-friendly. Its central location in Jiefangbei means we can walk to Hongyadong and Raffles City, saving us from long treks with the little one. There are numerous convenience stores and snack shops nearby, making it easy to find kid-friendly breakfast options that are more varied than the hotel's breakfast. The staff are gentle and patient, and they offer free stroller storage. Check-in and check-out were quick and efficient. The group purchase price was very reasonable, and the weekend surcharge was clearly and transparently marked with no hidden tricks. They also support free refunds for itinerary changes, making it a great value for a short trip with kids.FromCAD 37
