Shiquan Street/Pan Gate Scenic Area Suzhou|3.16km from city centre
This hotel is an investment by Singapore's Temasek Holdings, and it attracts a good number of international guests, especially from Singapore. The overall environment of the hotel is quite pleasant, feeling almost like a garden. However, there are some shortcomings:
1. The lobby, both in terms of overall size and the front desk area, is very cramped, leading to overcrowding and noise.
2. Among the front desk staff, some colleagues are very dedicated, like Jane, who, despite appearing new, is very conscientious. However, another young man, Jerry, seemed to lack patience.
3. In the rooms, the air conditioning's cooling performance was only average.
4. For a foreign-invested hotel, all the English 'Guest' signs in the elevators were misspelled.
Overall, the hotel's location is decent. However, it primarily caters to group tour clients, and the attention given to individual travelers seems to be a bit weaker. I hope to see improvements in the future.FromPLN 181

The panoramic room was a delightful surprise! The floor-to-ceiling windows offered a complete view of Tayuan Road's cityscape, bringing the vibrant street scene right into the room and creating a wonderful ambiance. The room itself was spacious, and the interior decor was soft and inviting. The king-size bed and leisure sofa were incredibly comfortable, perfect for relaxing.
Attention to detail was evident everywhere. The wardrobe included ironing facilities, and even large-sized slippers were provided for men, truly showing the hotel's thoughtfulness.
The hotel's surroundings are excellent, with a park nearby and a variety of specialty restaurants. A post-dinner stroll along the street was incredibly pleasant. The recreational facilities were also top-notch. The gym had a comprehensive range of equipment, and the pool's water was clean and crystal clear. With separate areas for children's splashing and a massage hot tub, it's perfect for families traveling with kids.
The hotel's dining options were equally impressive. Xiang Palace served authentic Suzhou cuisine with fresh ingredients and genuine flavors. The buffet restaurant offered a wide array of dishes, and the seafood and desserts were of high quality.
Our butler, Lisa, was consistently responsive to all our requests. The Shangri-La on Tayuan Road is definitely a place worth revisiting!FromPLN 250

Without a doubt, this is the worst five-star hotel I've ever stayed in. The rooms and facilities are old and run-down. Everything from the walls to the elevators and the room fixtures was filthy. The weirdest thing is there's no proper shower in the room, just a bathtub. If you want to shower, you have to stand inside the tub and use a handheld sprayer. On top of that, the water temperature was impossible to adjust – it kept switching between freezing cold and scalding hot. For a room like this, costing 489 yuan a night, it should really be around 200 yuan. Even though it's an older hotel from 2012, I didn't expect a chain brand to be this bad. The staff's attitude was good, and both the Chinese restaurant and breakfast selection were quite varied. I originally wanted to give a terrible review, but since I booked it myself, I decided not to be too harsh.FromPLN 172

The price didn't even go up for the Dragon Boat Festival. I booked an executive room, which gave me access to the executive lounge, perfect for traveling with seniors and kids. From the 26th floor, you can catch a glimpse of Suzhou Center and Jinji Lake. The beds in the room were really soft and comfortable. I was very satisfied with the service at both the front desk and the restaurant. The B2 level is the parking lot, and B1 leads directly to Xinghai Square Station on Metro Line 1. The front desk is on the 4th floor. I forgot to take pictures of the hotel, so I only have one photo of the executive lounge on the 25th floor.FromPLN 285

Came to Suzhou for a concert during the May Day holiday and brought the kids and my parents along for a trip. The hotel is just a few steps from the subway station. You need to transfer to get to the Olympic Sports Center, but it's very convenient, only about three stops in total. The three-bedroom suite we booked this time was perfect for a large family like ours. It also has three bathrooms and a large double-door refrigerator. However, someone had put durian in the fridge before, and it smelled awful, making it unusable for us. I hope the hotel can do a better job with cleaning and deodorizing! There's an oven, microwave, and induction hob, but no pots or pans were provided. Does that mean they expect guests to cook or not? We didn't need to cook, but it just felt a bit confusing. There are restaurants and convenience stores right across from the hotel.FromPLN 339

Outside Tongli Ancient Town Suzhou|21.92km from city centre
The hotel is located by Tongli Lake, surrounded by the lake on three sides. Being under the Hengli Group, the service, hygiene, and dining are all excellent. It's a shame that the development of Tongli Lake and Tongli Ancient Town is a bit disappointing. The environmental management of Tongli Lake is poor, with many dead fish floating on the surface. Many shops in Tongli Ancient Town are closed, and the lake is full of leaves and dust. Yet, the ancient town still charges an 80 RMB entrance fee during the day, which feels a bit steep. These factors must surely affect the hotel's business. Consequently, many of the hotel's older facilities haven't been updated in a timely manner, especially the faucets and showers; all the fittings are peeling, and the main showerhead in the shower room isn't working. However, these drawbacks haven't diminished my personal liking for Hengli Group hotels. I hope that through overall improvements in the surrounding area, the hotel can continue to upgrade and enhance the customer experience. Also, the breakfast was good, though there could have been a few more varieties of stir-fried green leafy vegetables.FromPLN 205

The hotel is quite close to the subway, making it relatively convenient to get to various attractions. The breakfast was also good, and we were generally satisfied with the facilities and the room. The only downside was that the price fluctuated daily. When I tried to extend my stay, they said I couldn't get an upgrade if I booked through Ctrip, so I rebooked at the front desk. The service was absolutely fantastic, and all the staff were incredibly nice. They'd even greet you in the elevator, which was a lovely, personal touch. I requested a high floor, and the view was just breathtaking! I always enjoy a drink when staying at a hotel, and when I asked for a glass, they brought it right to my room – so convenient! I originally booked a Classic Room package. The front desk staff suggested upgrading to a Balcony Room, which is 30 square meters larger, for an additional 500 RMB. I took their advice, and after comparing, I think it was worth it because not only did I get more space, but also a large balcony and double breakfast. The room was high-ceilinged and cool, the air conditioning was comfortable, and the mattress was very pleasant. There were many books in the room to browse. The bathroom had a double vanity, but I was a little disappointed that not every sink had both hand soap and lotion. The left sink had hand soap, and the right one had lotion. So, if you wanted to wash your hands, you went to the left sink, and then to the right sink for lotion after washing. The two sinks were quite far apart with a large bathtub in the middle. I hope the hotel can be a bit more generous and provide both items at each sink, which would be much more convenient. From the moment I entered the hotel, the service felt like I was entering my own home. There were complimentary snacks, and the tea served was also good. All the staff greeted me with proactive smiles. The breakfast selection wasn't extensive, but everything was high quality, though there's room for improvement with the Western pastries. This trip, I specifically went for the noodles at Su Mian Fang. The service and taste were absolutely incredible, though the price was a bit on the high side. I wanted to eat them again. I'm not sure if it's because I rarely eat Su noodles and am therefore less knowledgeable, or if they truly are considered a delicacy among Suzhou noodles. Additionally, the hotel's environment is very Suzhou-like, and it's located by the lake in front of the Gate of the Orient.FromPLN 421

I finally got to experience the Crowne Plaza Suzhou, and its cruise ship-like architecture is incredibly distinctive. The nighttime views by Jinji Lake are picture-perfect, no matter where you snap a photo. The location is superb; step outside and you're right on the lakeside promenade, with easy access to the Gate of the Orient and Suzhou Center – perfect for sightseeing and shopping. We stayed in a lake-view room which offered expansive views. The room itself was spacious, clean, and equipped with soft, comfortable bedding and smart, modern facilities. The breakfast buffet was extensive, offering a wide variety of Chinese and Western dishes, desserts, and seafood, all managed efficiently. All the staff members were warm and polite; check-in was efficient, and any requests were handled promptly. The heated swimming pool and kids' play area are excellent amenities, making this hotel suitable for both couples on a getaway and families with children. This place is fantastic! The room is huge, with a living room and kitchen downstairs, and the bedroom and bathroom upstairs (there's also a separate toilet downstairs). It could easily accommodate four people with plenty of space to spare!
Outside, there's a massive cold plunge pool and a hot tub. The hot tub is kept warm 24/7, making it incredibly relaxing to soak in! If you come in the summer, you'd be able to swim in the cold pool. 😆
The hotel also offers a variety of free activities, including kayaks. The private waterfront access provides an absolutely stunning spot to watch the sunrise! And if you visit in the summer, you might even get to see the lotus flowers blooming.

Located on Shiquan Road, the environment is excellent. It's within walking distance to Canglang Pavilion, Ke Garden, and Master of the Nets Garden, and there are plenty of dining and shopping options nearby. The service is great, and the breakfast is also quite good. While the facilities in the Landscape Building are a bit dated, the shower water is hot and strong. However, the bathtub drains very slowly; after a normal 10-minute shower, the water can reach your ankles. The room is quiet, but the central air conditioning can't be used as it's very noisy. The only thing that is really not good organised, there is no food except breakfast and afternoon tea (in that case fruits). I'd been looking forward to staying at Le Méridien Suzhou for ages, and finally did! Since I'm from Wuxi, my first suggestion to stay in Suzhou was shot down by my partner. After some back and forth, it turned out to be our first family outing after three days stuck at home during a rainy Dragon Boat Festival. It totally exceeded expectations! While the lawn was smaller than I imagined, the room was quite spacious, and the executive lounge on the 12th floor was fantastic. I wanted to extend our stay, but decided against it because it was so crowded with an event on our first day.
The hotel's room service was super fast and responsive to all our requests. They were great with the baby, and food orders came quickly. The baby was happy the whole time! Checking out today, they even let us wait until the baby woke up from their afternoon nap without rushing us. Big thumbs up! 👍
The hotel offered a complimentary travel photoshoot, but you had to pay extra for additional photos. That's a personal choice, but I ended up buying over 20! I figured it was a rare opportunity for our family of three to get some good pictures, especially after my partner's overconfident decision to go to Suzhou Bay Museum in the morning without navigation, which led to us driving 10km down a one-way street right by the hotel! We completely missed our scheduled photoshoot.
All the other services were excellent. The staff were polite and well-mannered, though their phone answering had a slight robotic feel to it – probably due to their thorough training.
What's truly remarkable is that we traveled with my partner this time and didn't argue at all. It was a truly fulfilling weekend! 🌅FromPLN 335

A clean and affordable hot spring hotel with few guests. The service attitude was genuinely excellent – friendly, attentive, and patient. The hot springs were also good; the key is that there weren't many people, making for a very relaxing soak. Soaking in the winter is truly comfortable. We were warm and toasty, and it wasn't cold at all walking back from the outdoor pools.
The breakfast was abundant with plenty of choices.
However, a few complaints: The family room was advertised to have a sofa bed, but it was very small, only suitable for a child. Once unfolded, half was a hardboard and half a soft cushion, making it very uncomfortable to sleep on. The shampoo and body wash provided for showering at the hot springs were quite low-quality, and there was no conditioner. This is one of my favorite hotels! The stay included two hot spring tickets, but the front desk staff, knowing I was traveling alone, thoughtfully swapped one for a breakfast voucher instead. The room was very clean and comfortable, and I really liked the Chinese-style decor. The bed was super comfy, and even the hairdryer was good. They even gave me snacks upon check-in – extra thoughtful! The breakfast buffet was plentiful, a great mix of Chinese and Western dishes. The robot ice cream machine was a fun touch; I had two, and they were delicious. The hot springs were also excellent. I visited at the tail end of a holiday, so it was quiet with fewer people. For our Nanjing and Suzhou trip, we chose the Park Hyatt in Suzhou's competitive hotel market, drawn to its modern Chinese aesthetic. Both the hardware and software were excellent. Rain, Tracy, and their team made our family feel even more secure and happier than at home with their birthday wishes, extended check-out due to a typhoon, and attentive, butler-style care throughout our stay. The hardware was impeccable, with a subtly luxurious design and high-end brand furnishings. I particularly loved the unique double bathrooms and separate toilet (though the bathroom TV was out of order). The Le Labo bath amenities were a nice touch, and the spa facilities, including the gym and pool, were extensive and clean—truly deserving of their platinum management. The mini-bar and semi-buffet breakfast were exquisite and plentiful (though we felt rushed due to queuing, which limited our dining time). The name ”Xiangxuehai” felt familiar to me, as it was a household name for a domestic refrigerator brand in the early days. This Xiangxuehai Hotel in Suzhou shares the same origins as the refrigerator brand, making it a well-established local brand. Based on my trust in old brands, I chose Xiangxuehai Hotel for my trip to Suzhou. The soundproofing at the hotel was surprisingly good; I slept soundly until morning. Getting around was also convenient, with a bus stop right next to the hotel, making it easy to visit attractions. For those driving, the hotel has a large parking lot, and you just need to show your room card to enter and exit. Even the security guards were very welcoming.
The floor we stayed on was newly renovated, with a simple yet practical design. I especially want to praise the bathroom facilities; the smart toilet was convenient, and the showerhead was the best and most comfortable I've ever used, with strong water pressure. The hotel was very thoughtful; the air conditioning was already on when we checked in, and the room was impeccably clean—I couldn't find a single flaw. Every detail reflected the hotel's professional management, and the room rate wasn't expensive, offering excellent value for money!
On the first day, we received dining vouchers and ate on the hotel's second floor. All the dishes we ordered were delicious and reasonably priced. It saved a lot of time to eat there and then head back to the room. We originally planned to stay for just one day, but since everyone was so satisfied with the hotel's dining and accommodation, and all the front desk staff were excellent, proactively introducing nearby attractions and travel routes, everyone wanted to extend our stay, haha. The front desk staff were all incredibly nice! I initially booked the wrong dates on a third-party platform, and they helped me contact the third-party customer service for a refund. Then, they even upgraded my room on the spot. When I left, they gave me some snacks, drinks, and tissues. Their service was very thoughtful!FromPLN 198

Before check-in, our butler Cindy called and connected with us on WeChat. She answered all our questions about parking and nearby subways, which made our stay very pleasant and the experience excellent. Cindy's service was also very thoughtful; she even checked in with us in the evening to see if we needed anything, which made us feel really warm inside.
Next time we're in Suzhou, we'll definitely choose the Hyatt Regency Jinji Lake again. The location is great, the breakfast service is well-organized, transportation is convenient, shopping is a breeze, and ordering takeout is easy. It's also quite close to the Olympic Sports Center, perfect for catching a show!😜FromPLN 404

The Capybara King Room was great! It had a projector with mini-games, which my child absolutely loved. The room also came with kid-friendly amenities like a step stool for the sink, a toilet seat, a children's toiletries set, and cartoon bedding. There's an indoor play area and an outdoor activity zone, and the lake view is beautiful! Yolanda from Guest Relations contacted me a day in advance and provided excellent personalized service. Highly recommend for families traveling with children!FromPLN 352

Suzhou Marriott Hotel Revisited – A Timeless Five-Star Experience
This is my second stay at the Suzhou Marriott, and it's as excellent as ever. The hotel is centrally located in the heart of Gusu District, making it a quick taxi ride to attractions like Hanshan Temple, Shantang Street, Pingjiang Road, and Lingering Garden.
Check-in was seamless. The spacious bathroom with a bathtub is a definite plus, and the stable water pressure and instant hot water in the shower, along with the large window, were the icing on the cake. From the higher floors, you get a fantastic view of the Gusu old town skyline, and the sunset streaming in during the evening was incredibly relaxing.
For breakfast, I highly recommend trying the freshly made Suzhou-style stewed pork noodles at the live cooking station – the broth is flavorful, and the noodles have a great bite.
As an established hotel, the overall service is exceptionally warm. The staff at the front desk, guest services, and fitness center are all very attentive, thoughtful of guests' needs, and go out of their way to accommodate individual requests.FromPLN 287

The hotel's facilities are excellent, and the location is great with plenty of amenities nearby, including numerous shopping malls like Harmony Times Square, Shin Kong Place, and Jiuguang Department Store. After just one day, I decided to extend my stay. Before checking in, the concierge, Yvonne, contacted me in advance and arranged a lovely anniversary setup with a thoughtful gift. During my stay, communication was easy and prompt. Service gets full marks! The hotel's restaurant is even featured in the Michelin Guide, so I'll definitely try it next time I'm back. Shangri-La has always been a trusted brand for me, consistently providing warm and attentive service. Thumbs up! Special shoutout to the front desk staff; they responded to all my questions promptly and even granted a late check-out, which was incredibly considerate!FromPLN 390

My stay at Jinke Grand Hotel during the Labour Holiday was a great experience, especially considering the price. It was very cost-effective, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the amenities offered at such an affordable rate.
The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a nice view and even a bathtub, which was a great bonus. The hotel also has a swimming pool, which added to the overall experience. The location is very convenient. It is within walking distance of Suzhou North Railway Station, making it easy to get around. It is also about a 20-minutes trip to nearby malls and Western restaurants, which was perfect for me.
The service was excellent. The staff were professional, polite, and very helpful. I especially appreciated that they spoke both English and Mandarin, which made communication smooth and easy.
The only downside was the breakfast selection. While it was decent, I do wish there were more Western-style options, particularly when it comes to meat choices.
Overall, I had a very good stay and would definitely recommend Jinke Grand Hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and affordable place to stay in a convenient location.FromPLN 277

During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, I brought my family to stay at Hotel Nikko Suzhou. The hotel is conveniently located in the Huqiu district, right next to Shizishan Metro Station, making transportation easy. There are plenty of dining options nearby. Although the hotel shows its age a bit with slightly dated decor and facilities, it's well-maintained, upholding the standards of a seasoned star-rated hotel.
We stayed in an Executive King Room. While the room wasn't large, the view from the 27th floor was excellent, especially the mesmerizing night view. The room has a distinct Japanese style, with efficient use of space throughout, making it convenient and clean.
The complimentary afternoon tea and executive lounge benefits were nothing spectacular, but given the reasonable price of the room, we couldn't ask for more.
As it's a Nikko hotel, the breakfast is a blend of Chinese and Japanese cuisine. The Chinese-style Suzhou noodles and Japanese curry and rich soups were particularly noteworthy.
Finally, regarding the service, the hotel staff were attentive and thoughtful. Jiajia at the front desk was especially enthusiastic and professional during both check-in and check-out. Five-star rating for her!FromPLN 262

Check-in at the front desk was incredibly fast, less than three minutes, which is much better than many hotels in the same price range. The room was larger than expected, the bedding was clean, and there were two types of pillows to choose from, so my sleep quality was decent. The biggest plus was breakfast; although the variety wasn't huge, everything was fresh. The hot dry noodles and freshly made omelets were both good, and it was perfectly sufficient for someone on a business trip and in a hurry. For just over 300 yuan, this level of quality offers great value for money. Don't expect five-star details, but all the essentials are there, making it perfectly adequate for a business stopover. I'll likely choose this hotel again next time I'm in the city.FromPLN 162

Inside Tongli Ancient Town Suzhou|20.31km from city centre
I am definitely a frequent traveler/stayer/eater, and I have experienced many high-end hotels/boutique B&Bs/boutique restaurants. But this time I want to say: This boutique B&B (inn) is worth my recommendation.
1. The owner of the inn is a famous Suzhou garden designer, so the taste and foundation of the inn are very good.
2. The male and female managers have a good hobby and cultivation of tea art/meditation and meditation, which adds a lot of added value and fun to the inn.
3. In addition to the good breakfast included in the inn, the inn owner will also invite customers to join their private lunch and dinner, which is very authentic Hunan cuisine, which is simply a unique and exquisite dish in Tongli.
4. Warm and warm service and feeling.
. . .
Of course, other routine services are also very good, so I won’t say more.
In short, recommended!FromPLN 474

The weather is getting colder, so it's time to soak in the hot springs! The hotel faces Taihu Lake, the air is fresh, and the view is amazing. The hotel service is also excellent; staff contacted us in advance to ask about our check-in time and number of guests. Because we were traveling with a child, they thoughtfully upgraded us to a family suite. The room was large and spacious, and had two bathrooms, which was very convenient for families. A special thank you to Xiao Liu at the front desk for her attentive and patient service over the past two days, and also to the housekeeping staff for keeping the place spotless. Nanxun Ancient Town is about 10 kilometers from the hotel, so you can drive there for a stroll.FromPLN 338
Suzhou Metro Map FAQs
-
Does the Suzhou Metro connect to Shanghai?
Yes — Suzhou Metro Line 11 connects directly to the Shanghai Metro at Huaqiao station, which is an interchange with Shanghai Metro Line 11. Through-service between Suzhou Metro Line 3 and Line 11 means passengers can travel all the way from Suzhou Xinqu Railway Station to Huaqiao (and onwards into Shanghai) without changing trains. The journey from central Suzhou to Huaqiao takes roughly 45–60 minutes. -
Where can I download the Suzhou Metro Map in English as a PDF?
An English-language Suzhou Metro Map in PDF format can be downloaded from the official Suzhou Metro website or found on travel platforms such as Trip.com. The map clearly labels all stations in English (with Chinese pinyin), colour-codes each line, and marks transfer stations and key landmarks. It is highly recommended to save the map offline before travelling, as public Wi-Fi in metro stations can be inconsistent. -
Is there a metro line to Suzhou Railway Station and Suzhou North Railway Station?
Yes. Suzhou Railway Station (苏州站) is served by both Line 2 and Line 4, making it easily accessible from most parts of the city. Suzhou North Railway Station (苏州北站), which handles the majority of high-speed rail services, is served by Line 2. Travellers arriving by high-speed train from Shanghai (approx. 30 min), Hangzhou, Nanjing, or Beijing should check whether their train stops at Suzhou or Suzhou North, as they are on different metro stops. -
What is the cheapest way to ride the Suzhou Metro?
The most cost-effective way to ride the Suzhou Metro depends on how often you plan to travel. For occasional journeys, purchasing a single-journey ticket (starting at ¥2, roughly CAD $0.40) is perfectly fine. If you plan to take 4 or more trips in a day, the 1-day pass (¥18) offers better value. For multi-day visitors, the 3-day pass (¥40) is the best deal. Using a QR code via WeChat or Alipay also charges distance-based fares with no surcharge. -
What app should I use to navigate the Suzhou Metro?
The official Suzhou Metro app is called 苏e行 (Sū E Xíng). It supports QR code payments and real-time journey planning in Chinese. For English-language navigation, many travellers use Baidu Maps or Amap (Gaode Maps), which both support English and offer metro routing. WeChat's City Services function and Alipay also support QR code metro payments for registered users. For trip planning before you travel, Trip.com's transport guides can help you pre-plan your metro routes in Suzhou. -
What time does the Suzhou Metro open and close?
Most Suzhou Metro lines operate from approximately 05:40–06:00 (first train) to 22:20–23:00 (last train). Operating hours vary slightly by line and by day — on weekends and public holidays, services are typically extended by 20–40 minutes. Line 2 may also run later on nights when high-speed trains arrive late at Suzhou North Railway Station, and Line 11 adjusts its schedule to align with Shanghai Metro connections. Always check the official Suzhou Metro website for the most up-to-date timetable.
