Our first time in the Keys, for a weddnig, and we chose to stay at this hotel. The lobby was fairly nice, as far as lobbies go, and the front desk staff was nice. That is pretty much where the niceties end. We got into our room, which smelled moldy and our shower had a lot of bugs in it. Disgusting right? We requested a new room and thankfully we were immediately moved. The new room still smelled a little moldy, but it was faint and there were no bugs so we stayed. A friend of mine was staying here as well & he had the same problem with bugs and his second room smelled extremely moldy! Not sure how he stayed in there with that smell. Overall, room cleanliness was a challenege to say the least. The couch in our room was stained, the floor just didn't feel clean and I had my shoes on, and I found a wash cloth that appeared to have been used but never replaced! We had a couple technical issues as well, one of the nightstand lights didn't work but maintenance was able to fix that by replacing the bulb. Our phone, however, did not work at all and after a few tries at new phone cords, maintenance could not get it to work. Thank God we didn't have any emergencies otherwise we would have had to ride the elevator all the way down to the lobby to get help! The lighting in the room was terrible, its pretty dark even with the curtains drawn back. The bathroom shower leaked all over the floor and water ran under the door into the sink area. The poolside bar was pretty good, inflated prices of course, but the food & drinks they delivered was good. The pool area was pretty but unaccessable the entire time we were there. It was apparently being renovated but the only thing we saw was someone painting the deck and draining the pool. The fact that this hotel charges a resort fee is a crime in and of itself. The entire building needs to undergo mold removal, deep cleaning & each room needs renovating. When we get a chance to make the trip to the Keys again I promise we will never stay in this hotel again. To be honest, I doubt we will ever stay in a Hilton again if we can help it because of the negative experience we had here.

Hygiene: There is some hair on the bath towel, which is obviously from the previous guest. It is the typical golden brown hair of foreigners.
Facilities: Very complete, equipped with gym and swimming pool, breakfast is also good
Service: Two non-alcoholic drinks will be given when you check in. Although they are not expensive, they will make people feel very comfortable.

The worst Waldorf I have ever lived in, a hotel built in 1920, the location is good, there is a private beach, and it is very close to the southernmost landmark and the main street, within walking distance. But the room is very small, soundproofing is very poor, the air-conditioning sound has reached the level that affects the rest, the facilities are not well maintained, not the standard of an old five-star hotel

It’s too far out from the main area although there’s a shuttle into town. All our clothes smelt damp after just 4 days of being there. The room felt very damp the bed especially. Pool is ok but I’m sure you’d struggle to get a sun bed in high season. The beach is nice across the street but the sunbeds are rentable from a company $$$

There are fewer breakfast categories, the room is Unicom room, really need an extra bed, it will be a bit crowded; our big bed is not crowded. There are swimming pools and Jacuzzi, and there are very few people. The hotel has a free shuttle bus to the square to see, drive about 20 minutes or so, and get off at regular intervals. There is free parking, you ask the front desk, the front desk said that there is a fee, but I did not check the account later.

The bathroom is small, the decoration style is simple, a bit old, but the price is outside the hammock and the beach, make up these places, the children like it, I also like to lie on the hammock to listen to the sea breeze. Breakfast is general, fruit and milk are available, ok.

The hotel for more than 6,000 nights is only part of the sea view, and the rest is the small beach of other houses, simple cars, and the scenery. The room is clean and tidy, and the bed is big and comfortable, but the noise of the air conditioner seriously affects sleep. The hotel’s seaside restaurant is good, while enjoying the food, watching the sunset.

Been to Key West many times. (we live in Fort Lauderdale, so it's a nice getaway that is a short drive) Our preference is to stay at guest houses on the east end of the island, rather than staying in the busier east end. We rent bikes on arrival and keep the car parked. Parking is a problem with this property. They have what appeared to be 6 spots at $25/night, and 20 spots at a lot nearby at $20/night. None of which were available. Options were to park at meters at $5/HOUR, or to find rare non metered street parking. Since we frequent the area often,we knew where to street park w/o meters, just 2 blocks away.
The room was clean and simple, no maid service, you had to go to the desk and ask for towels, soap etc. Comfortable bed and a fridge in the room. Only drawback was the constant drone of window unit A/C that barely kept the room cool.
When I booked the room the confirmation email said that upon arrival we would be charged $74.97. What we were actually charged was $118.09. Even showing the confirmation email to the desk attendant made no matter.
The included continental breakfast was sufficient, juices, coffee, waffle maker, bagels, fruit, cereals. The dining area was clean, well maintained and central A/C. Also included is a happy hour from 5-7 in the lobby with wine and individually wrapped snacks.
Over all 4 stars, had parking been free and they honored the price we were expecting to pay on arrival, they'd get 5 stars. But hey, it's Key West, they march to a different drum.

JJZRIVThis was our 5th time staying at the Gardens. After our first visit years ago, in following visits we researched other accommodations looking for something better but always returned because anywhere else looked like a step backwards. Trust that the other rave reviews you read are not embellishment! Five years had passed since our last stay and we hoped it would be unchanged. We asked for our favorite room which was Garden #9. 2nd floor tucked away at back along Simonton St with partial view of pool area. We were not disappointed. If staying in an ultra-modern contemporary hotel is a high preference, you probably won't like the Gardens. Nothing like that can offer the charm, emotional experience, and personal touch of the historic Gardens Hotel in its lush setting. Any burdens or stress you arrive with vanish immediately as you set foot into the property. Walking the pathways through jungle-like atmosphere with various attractions is calming and almost surreal. The hammock in the back is so inviting. Many times during the week, we did not encounter any other guests when walking the paths or using the pool. Possibly in part due to being off season, though in past this has not been uncommon. For the budget minded (we are), if you are thinking it’s too much money, do not be deceived between cost and value, you will be rewarded with an unforgettable experience. Granted there is a lot to do in KW but if you never left this hotel during your stay, you could be content. Bedding comfort is a 10 out of 10. The rooms are clean, well appointed with plantation style furniture and Key West décor that create a very welcoming feeling when you walk in. Makes you just want to stay in room sometimes despite the beckoning call from beyond. The breakfast is far superior to cookie-cutter hotel buffet breakfasts. George waited on us all but one day and was friendly, accommodating, and efficient. The cook is also on their A-game. Every dish was perfectly prepared with like presentation. Eat inside or outside. The resident kitty may keep you company but is never a pest. There is an exquisite large cabana restroom behind the pool bar with full facilities including shower. This is really nice as it is available if you arrive before check-in time, as well as after you check out. For example, on checkout day, if you have a late day flight and need a place to freshen up during afternoon. They have various sunscreen products available on edge of bar you can use and return at end of day. Small thing but much appreciated as we pack light and with carry-on size restrictions we don't bother bringing sunscreen. Speaking of the bar by the pool, it’s an inviting place where guests can mingle and have a drink, or few, before going out for the evening, or while using the pool. All staff was friendly and helpful. Nancy is a true treasure of the Gardens. What a wonderful person! We could have talked for hours! Amazing how you get an isolated feel at the Gardens, yet are still so

The good: Free Parking, Great location for walking to most places downtown (we didn't rent a car). Quiet gated neighborhood. Small Pool. Decent size rooms. Dehumidifier in room. Ice machine. accommodated for late check in ( you must let them know in advance). The not so great: Shared mini Fridge in the hall. It was full of other peoples stuff so we didn't use it. Shared coffee maker in hall so we had to get dressed in the morning to make coffee. Dehumidifier in the room (noisey but needed). Breakfast was minimal, just a couple of sealed croissants, breakfast bars and some juice. No bikes. No Microwave. We had to walk by the trash to get in and it was very ripe. Must be able to climb stairs. There is an outside elevator for the lower level if needed. We could possibly stay here again.

GGuest UserThe location of the hotel is good, right by the sea, there is a shuttle bus to downtown every hour, but it's a long walk. Hotel facilities are just like simple and fast hotels.
