Riu Palace Swahili hotel is located on the northern tip of Unguja, the main island of the archipelago of Zanzibar. It is about an hours' drive from the airport and the islands' capital, Zanzibar City, the centre of which is known as Stone Town. The hotel is located next to the Riu Jambo in an excellent location right on Nungwi Beach, one of the loveliest beaches of the island.

"This is the third Riu hotel in the area, and having stayed at the previous two, I found this one, which opened in '26, to be a step down overall. The smell of concrete was very strong. They claim to have seven à la carte restaurants (non-buffet), but not all of them were open; in fact, only one was open each day. This wasn't mentioned on their website or on Ctrip. We were only informed at check-in that reservations could only be made for the following day. This means if you're only staying one night, you're stuck with the buffet for all three meals and can't experience any of the all-inclusive à la carte restaurants, despite paying the same per-night rate as those staying longer, which feels very unfair. The large, modern building feels too artificial; I'd rather stay in a more traditional hotel on the island."

"The room was large and beautiful, with a spacious balcony. It was very close to the restaurant and swimming pool. It's best to lock your luggage securely! There's a safe in the room, so valuables are safe there. The staff occasionally come in to clean and change towels. The staff were very welcoming and greeted us throughout the trip. The juices and coffee were delicious, and there was plenty of bread and various donuts in the morning – very tasty! The grilled beef and fish were tender and fresh. After playing, lying on a beach chair with various drinks was very relaxing. Looking at the beautiful sea made me feel happy. The hotel's Wi-Fi was fast and I could easily share it with friends. I would definitely choose to stay here again. It was a very happy vacation."

"The Lux Marijani Zanzibar hotel was a DREAM ✨ The hotel getaway you never knew you needed. The hotel is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes away from the airport. Upon arriving at the hotel we were warmly greeted by hospitable staff and amazing refreshments 🍹 The transition to our room was seemless thanks to our wonderful concierge Temba 👏 The room was beautifully decorated and spacious with a great view of the hotel’s private beach. It was equipped with a hair dryer, bathrobes, slippers, a kettle and a TV (with YouTube access). The hotel is perfect for couples and family alike. With an extraordinary food menu from its three restaurants. The hotel offers regular themed buffet meals ( Mexican Night/ BBQ Night) for its guests. It offers meals right around the clock: Breakfast ($35 usd), Lunch ($35 usd) & Dinner ($45 usd). There is also an option to pay from all-inclusive meal packages upon arrival. Special shout out to Chef Desi for his mouthwatering coconut delights, I will miss that the most! 😂 The hotel’s facilities also include a pool 🏊♀️ and a gym 🏋️♀️ (open from 7am-6pm). There are also various daily activities like Marco Polo, table tennis, art class, cooking class and beach volleyball to name a few. It was overall a great experience staying at the Lux Marijani Zanzibar and I would urge everyone to enjoy this experience on their own. Whether it’s dancing the night away to the music of the live band or just taking a sunset stroll on the beach. It was truly a life-changing and I highly recommend staying here. You can thank me later❤️❤️❤️"

"Tui Blue Bahari is 5*+ There is space, good food, great private beaches, 5 restaurants, friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. There were more sunbeds than guests when we stayed and towels are available poolside. There are bars in the garden, by the beach and at the pool, which are all manned with waiters and bar staff who are happy and efficient. The hotel has security and a private beach and the local tour sellers wait at the beach for you to engage. If you walk straight into the sea from the resort you'll find starfish, urchins and Dory fish. The room door we had wouldn't lock with a firm push and a couple times after the cleaners had been it was unlocked. Overall though 9.5/10 I'd recommend for any special occasion, or for those who want to safari in Tanzania, or swim with dolphins in Mnemba."

"In short: a great hotel in Nungwi, close to the ocean and all the essentials. Please read to the end – you might find this helpful, and we're happy to hear it! This was our last (3rd) hotel in Zanzibar, our main goal being a relaxing oceanside getaway. We were happy with our choice. LOCATION. The hotel isn't on the beachfront, but it's about a 5-minute walk to the ocean. Everything you need is nearby – restaurants where you can eat well and watch shows, several different beaches, a souvenir market, and even a liquor store. There's a school and a stadium near the hotel – it's quite interesting to watch the locals. HOTEL. There are two hotels, all owned by the same owner, and you can use the facilities at both. The grounds are small, but cozy, well-maintained, and have everything you need – swimming pools, bars, and restaurants. ROOMS. We chose this hotel largely because of the large family room, which comfortably accommodates four people. Our choice was justified – a two-room suite with a huge loggia offering a beautiful view of the illuminated pools and streets in the evening. Cons: the room is a bit tired and in need of renovation. Auditory-sensitive people may be challenged by the nighttime sounds: roosters crowing, muezzins singing, crows cawing. But this is definitely not a complaint about the hotel. The room is on the 3rd floor, there is no elevator. The room has a ton of lighting and separate lighting zones – it's comfortable and beautiful. STAFF. Above all praise. Everyone is very friendly and helpful with any questions. We even spoke with the hotel owner – a very pleasant man, he helped us resolve a slight delay at check-in and then helped with various other questions. BREAKFAST. Almost perfect by local standards – everything you need is there: made-to-order eggs, sausages/bacon, fresh vegetables, salads, cereal, juices, many types of bread and pastries, fruit, and desserts. The only thing missing is a coffee machine – instant coffee only, but that's the case almost everywhere in Zanzibar. OCEAN. Several beaches nearby, crystal-clear water, no low tides on the western side to interfere with swimming. But there are stunning sunsets – don't miss them! PARKING. We arrived in a rental car and left it in the internal, guarded parking lot until morning. And then there are the CONS. We essentially had only one – despite pre-paying for our family room, they didn't give us our room right away – for some reason, their booking system showed our reservation as two double rooms. It took about an hour to resolve, but then the owner intervened and resolved the issue. Overall, we were satisfied with the room. VERDICT. We recommend the hotel; it's a good choice for the price/quality ratio."

"We stayed for two days, from February 13th to 15th. We booked rooms in different locations to experience different views, and both the garden and the ocean views were beautiful. The staff were all friendly and the food was good. However, we had to check out at dawn on the 15th, so we asked the reception, and the staff at the desk during dinner treated us very disappointingly. They made fun of our English pronunciation in a comical way, even though we live in a non-English speaking country. They also told us to go back to our room and get another card because the Mastercard logo was on the card machine, and when we asked them to try paying, they sarcastically asked if it was the right card. Of course, the card machine recognized the card and the payment was made perfectly. I didn't know that it was the management policy of this resort to make fun of customers who are not good at English and treat them like thieves. If I had known, I wouldn't have made a reservation, but except for that problematic staff member, all the staff were friendly and the facilities were satisfactory. I think I need to think more about whether it is worth enduring the ridicule."

AAnonymous UserIf you are choosing a place to enjoy your holidays, getting away from crowd and enjoy peaceful moments, it’s definitely a right place for you. Hotel staff is very nice and helpful. Food in hotel restaurant is excellent, they offer different menu for lunch and dinner. Verify options for breakfast buffet, you will never feel bored for their food. Hotel offers yoga class on the morning daily except Sunday. Family or solo can also start with a “ Good morning “. There is a swimming pool, small gym room, different ball games for visitors to chill. Hotel is also connected with different Partners, no need to worry about the day trip prior arrival. They can plan everything for you including stone town visit, prison island , snorkelling. We just enjoy our time during our stay.

AAnonymous UserThe entire island experiences intermittent power outages. I encountered this about three times a day in both the restaurant and my room, each lasting less than ten seconds before power was restored. Some of the staff, especially a female chef at one of the restaurants (the head chef rotates nightly), showed clear disdain for Asian guests. Upon check-in, a male front desk staff member saw that I only had a small backpack (a tiny summit pack, as my main luggage was left in Kilimanjaro and not brought to Zanzibar). I was already carrying it myself, but he forcibly took it from me, even after I told him it wasn't necessary, clearly trying to earn a tip. Once in the room, he kept making small talk and wouldn't leave, seemingly afraid I wouldn't tip him. I ended up giving him one. When I was checking out, my flight was delayed, so I asked if I could extend my check-out by an hour. The staff confirmed that an extension wasn't possible, but I could still use the hotel's beverage, snack, and other facilities. Since I had an all-inclusive package, I double-checked with a male staff member on the phone and a female staff member at the front desk about getting a drink, given my flight was delayed by three hours (my check-out was at 12 PM, and I hoped to leave around 1 PM). They both said it was fine. So, at 12:30 PM, I had a glass of orange juice by the pool. At 1 PM, as I was leaving the hotel, I was stopped and asked to pay. The staff member who had previously confirmed this with me, along with another server (not the beverage server), debated with me in front of their supervisor. Eventually, the supervisor, James, intervened and told me I could leave. One of the bartenders at the beach bar also displayed discrimination towards Asians, practically fawning over white guests. I sat there for ages, and he ignored me even after I politely asked for the menu twice, pretending not to hear. As soon as a white person sat down, he was instantly there, chatting them up. Overall, I'm dissatisfied with the service. Some staff members' English was poor, leading to communication misunderstandings (and I've studied English for many years and graduated with an English degree). The excessive debating in front of a customer also doesn't reflect good service. There were instances of discrimination and being forced into tipping. The entire service experience was very poor. The beach, however, is excellent, and the hotel's location is good.

GGuest UserHotel: Beautiful views and nice arquitecture. On our last day they let us do a free late check out and have dinner and stay at the hotel till 11pm which really shows that the hotel care about their guests. Food: The food is good. The cliff restaurant is very nice and with good dishes. Buffet is quite diverse and you have the BBQ night which is awesome. Something to improve: desserts. Service: All the staff is very nice and friendly. Pools: You have 3/4 different pools with 2 bars which is great to order some drinks. Room: big rooms and very spacious. Bed sheets, towels and matress are quite old. They need to be changed. Gym: Needs an improvement. To close it and are some fan/air conditioner. They should add some running and bike equipment. Beach: Beautiful beach with super crystal water. Something bad is the local people that wants to sell everything at all time. But I guess that is something normal in all Zanzibar. Score: 8,5/10

YYour Jamaican GirlI had an amazing stay at Nungwi Beach Front Hotel in Zanzibar! The location is perfect, just a short walk to the beautiful beach, which made it super easy to enjoy the ocean views and relax by the water. The hotel was impressively clean, and the staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive—they made us feel right at home. While the amenities weren’t quite five-star, they were more than enough for a comfortable stay. The lack of a TV and the occasional power outages didn’t bother us at all, as it gave us the perfect opportunity to disconnect, relax, and spend quality time together. Plus, it was very affordable, which made the experience even better. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a laid-back, authentic Zanzibar experience!

GGrace S TMy friend and I came for 3 days and 2 nights and it was great! We arrived around 9am which was way before the check in time and they accommodated us so well and gave of coffee and fruit while they set up our room early! The room was way better than what we ever expected. The AC was the first we’ve had in our whole month stay in Tanzania! The room was spacious, had patio seating private to the room, a great bathroom, and very nice decor! Breakfast was good and the staff was extremely kind and accommodating to any needs. The location is great and a 5 minute walk to the beach and a great restaurant called Maisha that we ate at almost every night. The area felt very safe too! Even at the end of our trip our flight was at 10pm and they let us leave our bags at the hotel while we spent our day at the beach, and even let us come back to change and wait until our taxi came! Overall a great stay for a great price, we were so glad to have gotten the chance to stay here!

YYSNgaiThe hotel fell short of 5-star standards due to inconsistent service. Key issues: • Our booked seafront suite was unavailable on the first night due to overbooking (later cited as maintenance), and we were placed in a family house with unused amenities like a kitchen and extra rooms. • Service was lacking: staff were friendly but unhelpful. One left us at the buffet without seating us, and another failed to explain the substitute accommodation’s facilities. Shower gel was missing on the first night. Positives include: • Beautiful seafront suite and restaurant. • Large swimming pool with a scenic view and an enjoyable coached workout session. • Varied breakfast and dinner options. • Manager Maurine was helpful, though she seemed the only one resolving issues. Overall, poor service significantly diminished the experience, falling below 5-star expectations.

KKs_poThe hotel is very conveniently located. Beautiful road to the beach, through the restaurant. Ledges and umbrellas are free at the hotel. The beach towels are issued on the respiratory. Near this hotel the widest part of the beach, so to swim, you need to forgive about 50 m on soft white sand. You can lie at the ocean on a towel, but there you are tortured by local ”fake massai,” very obsessive but safe. So it is better to lie on the territory of the hotel, and to swim, it is impossible to pass. In the ocean itself I didn't leave things, For security purposes, on the lying - calmly. Breakfasts are delicious. The juice is freshly squeezed, every day different. Fruit plate, toasts, pancakes and eggs with different supplements (سوسيس, beef, mushrooms, beans ...). The prices at the restaurant at the hotel are slightly more expensive than in other cafes, if eating in the afternoon, there are lots of flies and attacking food, in the morning they are not. (I walked next to, left of the beach Furana restaurant, there is no flies, delicious and beautiful!!!) When the electricity is off, there is a generator in the hotel, without electricity you won't stay. There were no problems with water too, a little weak pressure only. You must buy a passerby, English railroads. Otherwise you will not be able to charge the phone when you arrive. Staff - just super! Girls on the respiratory and maids delicious! Thank you! The number is simple, but generally normal, given that it is Africa, the extracts are not waiting. The air conditioner worked well. Feng was. The hotel is mostly foreigners, from Russian I was one, but in the neighboring Tropicana there are a lot of compatriots. To clean the room, the key is left on the recipe. Water can also be taken every day on the respiratory. I liked the hotel! I can definitely say I would return here! Price is quality! Now I moved to Nungvi - I don't like it here, the beach is much worse, with lying problems, lots of boats in the sea and the crowd stick. And the prices in restaurants are not cheaper than in Kendwa. If you are interested in the beach and the ocean is definitely Kendwa. If you rest with children, Kendwa too!
