Beijing Shangguanyi Homestay

This is a beautiful hotel situated in the mountainous region of Beijing. The surroundings and view from the hotel are breathtaking at sunset and weather was extremely good during our stay. STAFF The staff were amount the most helpful and friendly that I have encountered in China thus far and I have been here more than five years and traveled to many destinations. They do not speak English but are very ready to use a translation APP or WeChat to communicate. The staff are very accommodating and even took special requests regarding the menu. FOOD The food was very well prepared and tasted delicious. Their menu unfortunately does not have pictures and the translations may be tricky if you are not particularly familiar with Chinese cuisine. Nevertheless, the food that we at was fresh, tasty and of high quality. We were able to BBQ by ourselves by reserving it a day in advance. The staff will also help you BBQ if needed. LOCATION The hotel is situated far from the city and a sense of comfort can be experienced knowing that you have left the hustle and bustle of the city behind. However, make sure all amenities and personal effects that you may need are with you as you cannot get same day delivery services. There were some construction vehicles which made noise occasionally in the area but I would suspect this is temporary and will soon pass. ROOM The rooms are beautiful and we experiences no dysfunctional amenities in the bedroom. The linen on the beds were crisp and clean, the room was clean upon arrival and daily cleaning is offered. Overall cleanliness was very good. The washroom area is stocked with a loofa, toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes, shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, razor, hand towels, cups and reasonable space for personal toiletries too. POOL AREA The outdoor patio looks out onto the pool. The water was well maintained and some pool toys were provided by the hotel. The pool area could use some maintenance, for example, around the stairs there are a couple loose tiles on the stair face and some weeding around the footpath could be done. Other than this, the environment is completely mesmerising and leaves one completely relaxed. Calming music is played throughout the day at a low volume. At night, this area is well lit and the scenery beautiful. BAR The bar is well stocked with spirits but a slightly wider variety and maybe the addition of a drinks menu would definitely improve this. ROOFTOP The hotel has a rooftop deck perfect for sundowners and viewing the surrounding mountains. Tables and chairs are provided on the rooftop.

I originally planned to take the tourist bus back to the city, but my child didn’t want to go down the mountain. Plus, walking on the Great Wall felt very comfortable at the time. I wanted to wait for the sunset to watch the sunset, so I looked for temporary accommodation. However, my child looked through the hotel and found a hotel with a small airplane overhead light. The room must be this one. The room is very mini but very practical. It feels like a small bedroom in your own home. The house is very clean. The landlord was very down-to-earth and very attentive. We didn’t go down the mountain until after dark. He knew we were going home so he waited for us at the roadside in advance. He also sent us to the bus stop the next morning (the transportation was very convenient and we could get on to the city quickly). of rental). The landlord's brother and sister-in-law can all speak fluent English. They also introduced scenic spots guide to several Indian guests and sent them to the scenic spots. The service was very good.

I have been to Shuizhen before, and this time I chose this B&B. I came on a Saturday and Sunday, so there were not many people. The room was very clean and tidy, and there was a small refrigerator in the room. The front desk lady also upgraded my room for free and recommended the time and method of playing in Shuizhen. It was great service! So considerate, I will stay here again next time!
BRICKYARD RETREAT

We (3 people) stayed for one night at the Stone Forest cottage. Getting to the retreat and back to Beijing was easy, we did it all with DIdi. Once at the retreat the shuttle bus to the Great Wall, or to and from the cottage (with luggage) is super easy to arrange with the hotel. From Stone Forest to the Brickyard hotel is a short 5 minute walk and in the centre of the village there is a convenience store, a couple of restaurants, coffee shop and an art gallery. The hotel has a number of facilities and is well maintained and stylishly decorated. There are plenty of Insta spots fo those looking. As for Stone Forest, this is a great little cottage to escape the hustle and bustle of Beijing. It has all the amenities and a nice garden to sit in with a BBQ. Mosquito coils and spray is provided, thankfully during our stay, there were not too many around. Finally, I would like to mention the staff at Brickyard retreat. All were super helpful and friendly and went out of their way to make our stay special. We can definitely recommend a stay and wished we would have booked more nights.
Mutianyu Great Wall Hotel

It's all about the location. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the cable car entrance or the footpath taking you up to the Wall. Booking into the hotel means that you can drive all the way up to the hotel and parking is free so you don't have to get on the shuttle bus. You can visit the Wall by night which is more much comfortable and less crowded than during the day. Alternatively, as you are right at the entrance you can get up early and avoid the crowds. You can buy tickets for the cable car at the hotel (CNY20 each) and entrance to the Wall if you're walking up is already included in your room rate. The hotel itself is spread over a number of buildings and there is a decently maintained kids playground in the complex. The reception staff were very helpful when it came to getting tickets and so on. Rooms are basic but big enough and clean enough. Breakfast was typical for a hotel at this room rate. Overall, excellent value and with the playground and how easy it is to visit the Wall, a great choice for families. Lots of steps between the buildings, so bring a couple of small suitcases instead of one big one.

This time I went to Beijing to accompany my children to participate in an event. I knew it was the peak tourist season, so I booked a hotel several days in advance. I was not very satisfied with my one-night stay, so I was very lucky to find this newly opened hotel online. The child was very happy when he saw it. Of course, I was also very satisfied. After all, it is very cost-effective. We are just ordinary people, and we don’t have particularly high requirements for accommodation standards when we go out. After all, if we don’t reimburse, we have to pay for it ourselves😝. Of course, many years of business travel experience also taught me how to choose a hotel with high cost-effectiveness: the room is of suitable size, has windows, is well ventilated and has no odor, and the bedding is ”obviously folded” and it looks like it has just been changed. Of course, these are all in line with my requirements. What is even more unexpected is that the room in this price range also has dry and wet separation, and the room is very quiet as it is not next to the road. Of course, the boss's service attitude is also very good. He likes my child very much and offered to put makeup on for your child. So he took out his own large makeup storage box to help the child with makeup and hairstyle. He saved me more than 100 yuan. It's really nice. 😃

The lady boss is really super super nice. She always asked for directions before we went there, and she answered them patiently. The place we stayed in was exactly the same as in the pictures. The sheets and quilt covers were very clean, much cleaner than some hotels. You can see that they were washed and dried carefully without any stains. They are all smart toilets, which are warm when you sit on them. There is also floor heating, but it is not winter now. If it is cold, it should be very comfortable. The town is very quiet at night, giving people a feeling of being away from the hustle and bustle and being in a paradise. It's a pity that the weather was not good. It rained when climbing the Great Wall. However, life is always full of regrets, and it is also a different experience. The price-performance ratio is really super high. Four big and one small are completely enough to live in, and it is also very close to the Great Wall. You can rest assured to stay. The recommended hotel is also very good, with large portions and affordable prices. Breakfast is also eaten in the hotel.

My experience was okay. The epidemic restrictions are what caused a lot of disappointments. The manager was helpful and friendly. He tried his best to keep us comfortable. I found the Thailand style rooms pretty comfortable. However more needs to be done to keep the outside table and chairs clean and tidy. The scenery around is beautiful and tranquil. During the epidemic all food is served on paper and plastic cutlery which did take away from a good eating experience. They have beautiful lounges and seating area’s indoors that are well decorated but we couldn’t sit inside due to the epidemic! So most meals were eaten outdoors in the cold. There are some tourist activities around such as climbing the Great Wall, horse riding and go-carting. However, many of these places are not in full operation right now. Also, there are many restaurants around if you search well. Overall I think the place is good but best to return when there are no covid restrictions!
