Hangzhou Metro Operating Hours
Regular Daily Operating Hours (Most Lines)
Hangzhou Metro maintains a stable daily schedule with minor differences between starting terminals and intermediate stations:
- First Train: Approximately 06:00 AM at origin stations; intermediate stations start service 1–20 minutes later
- Last Train: 22:30–23:00 PM at origin stations. Updated precise schedules: Line 1 (Xiaoshan Airport branch) last train departs at 22:50 PM; Line 2 final departure is around 23:02 PM
- Train Frequency: 2–6 minutes interval during weekday peak hours (morning & evening rush); 5–10 minutes interval during off-peak hours, ensuring minimal waiting time
Special Hour Adjustments (Holidays & Peak Travel Seasons)
To accommodate passenger surges, Hangzhou Metro extends operating hours on designated dates, a key benefit for travellers with late arrivals:
- Weekends & Public Holidays: Major tourist-friendly lines (1, 3, 4, 6, 19) extend last train service by 30–60 minutes
- Spring Festival & National Travel Peaks: From late January to early February annually, most lines extend last train times to 23:00 PM or later. Core transportation hubs (Hangzhou East & West Railway Stations) offer extended service until 00:00–01:15 AM on return peak days
- Suburban Branch Lines: No extended hours, strictly following regular daily closing schedules
Hangzhou Metro Fare Rules & Payment Methods

All fares follow a distance-based tiered pricing system (2026 official standard, no recent price adjustments). Below is the detailed fare structure with CAD approximate conversions for Canadian travellers (based on 2026 mid-market exchange rate: 1 CNY ≈ 0.19 CAD):
- Base Fare: Starting at 2 CNY (~0.38 CAD) for trips within 4 km
- Tiered Increment: 4–12 km: +1 CNY per 4 km; 12–24 km: +1 CNY per 6 km; Over 24 km: +1 CNY per 8 km
- Maximum Single Fare: 9 CNY (~1.71 CAD) for full-length long-distance trips
- Ride Time Limit: Valid travel duration is 240 minutes per single trip. Passengers exceeding the time limit will be charged the maximum single fare as a supplementary fee
Canadian Travel Tip: Metro fares in Hangzhou are extremely affordable compared to Canadian urban transit systems (Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal). Unlimited-ride tourist passes offer exceptional value for multi-day stays.
Hangzhou Metro Payment Methods
Hangzhou Metro supports diverse cashless and cash payment options, with no Chinese bank card required for foreign visitors. All methods below are fully accessible for Canadian tourists:
1. QR Code Payment (Most Convenient for Foreigners)
Canadian visitors can access metro QR codes through three mainstream platforms: the official Hangzhou Metro App, Alipay, and WeChat City Services. Exclusive tip for international travelers: Alipay supports binding overseas credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, JCB) issued in Canada, eliminating the need for a Chinese bank account or local phone card. Once bound, you can generate a dynamic QR code to scan and ride directly, which is the most hassle-free payment method for first-time Canadian visitors.
2. Single Journey Tickets
Physical tickets can be purchased at station self-service vending machines or manual ticket counters. Vending machines accept cash (CNY), mobile payments, and digital RMB. Unused tickets with no entry records are refundable at the original purchase station on the same day.
3. Transit Cards
Hangzhou Citizen Cards and Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai T-Union Cards are available for frequent travellers, offering a 9% discount on regular fares. Suitable for long-term stays in eastern China.
4. NFC & Digital RMB
Tap-and-go NFC payment is compatible with Apple Wallet and mainstream Android NFC wallets, supporting quick entry without physical tickets or QR codes. Digital RMB payment is also available via the Hangzhou Metro App or official E-CNY App, partnered with major Chinese banks. Note that digital RMB is optional for foreign travelers, and mainstream international payment methods are fully sufficient for daily rides.
5. Tourist Passes (Best Value for Canadian Visitors)
Exclusive electronic unlimited-ride passes for short-term travellers, available for purchase directly on the Hangzhou Metro App (2026 valid pricing, CAD conversion attached):
- 1-Day Pass: 15 CNY (~2.85 CAD)
- 3-Day Pass: 40 CNY (~7.60 CAD)
- 5-Day Pass: 60 CNY (~11.40 CAD)
- 7-Day Pass: 80 CNY (~15.20 CAD)
Canadian Travel Tip: For most 5–7 day Hangzhou travel itineraries covering West Lake, Xixi Wetland, airport and railway station transfers, the 7-day unlimited ride pass delivers the best cost performance, saving frequent ticket-purchasing time and reducing travel budget.
Quick Canada-Friendly Hangzhou Metro Travel Notes
- Full English Support: All stations are equipped with standard English signage, broadcast announcements, and English-mode self-service machines, bringing zero obstacle for Canadian travelers who only speak English.
- Ultra-Low Travel Cost: Compared with public transit in Canadian cities (Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal), Hangzhou Metro fares are extremely affordable, greatly cutting down daily travel expenses.
- High Accessibility: The network covers core tourist and transportation hubs, with short transfer distances and high punctuality, perfectly matching independent travel and itinerary planning for Canadian visitors.

I had a great experience staying at the Grand Metro Hotel in Hangzhou. From check-in to check-out, everything was smooth and pleasant. The staff were courteous, attentive, and always ready to help, which made me feel genuinely welcomed. The room was clean, spacious, and well-appointed, with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was very comfortable, and the housekeeping was consistently excellent. I also appreciated the quiet environment, which made it easy to relax after a long day. The hotel’s location is convenient—close to major attractions, and a decent massage place just across the road. Breakfast offered a great variety, with both local and international options. Everything was fresh and delicious. Overall, I recommend the Grand Metro Hotel. It’s a well-run property with good service and great value for money. I look forward to staying here again on my next trip to Hangzhou.From€35

Hello everyone I had a wonderful time here with my family. The location is fantastic . It's right next to the beautiful lake . They even have a huge roof top area where you can see a few temples from and on a night they're lit up. There's a robot room service which is cool. The breakfast has a lot of options even for vegetarians. The rooms were super clean and spacious. There was a concierge called jeef who was very polite. He didn't speak English but he helped very well. The bar staff were friendly and easy to talk too. I would stay here againFrom€90

The hotel's best asset is its location, right at Exit B of Fengqi Road Metro Station – you step out and you're there. If you're arriving at Hangzhou East Railway Station, getting to the hotel is super convenient. It's also very close to attractions like the West Lake's Bai Causeway and Broken Bridge, about a 15-minute walk. The hotel is a bit older, so some of the facilities show their age, but it's still quite convenient to stay in. There are four elevators which are fast, so you don't have to wait long even during peak hours. The breakfast is excellent and served in the 12th-floor restaurant with a view, where you can find local specialties. The staff clear tables quickly, keeping things orderly even when it's busy. I highly recommend the Tianxiang Lou restaurant on the 2nd floor; it seems like a local favorite, offering authentic and affordable dishes, and hotel guests even get a 10% discount. Next door, there's also a Chuyi Matcha shop with tasty treats. All in all, it's a very convenient hotel. Highly recommended for anyone visiting West Lake.From€51

This is a great hotel, and I was very satisfied with my stay. It offers good value for money, and the room decor has a high-quality feel. It's not far from the West Lake core area. It's about a 600-700 meter walk from the subway station, but the facilities really live up to expectations in terms of quality. The hotel's elevator might be a bit older, but the interior is fine. The service was also quite good, giving off the vibe of a well-established four-star hotel.From€25

This hotel has a slightly older design, but the room is fully equipped with everything you could need: a wardrobe, ironing board, hangers, umbrella, safe, full-length mirror, water heater, magnifying mirror in the bathroom, a Japanese automatic toilet seat, a desk, sofa, and a small table. The bed and pillows are also very comfortable. Downstairs, on both the left and right sides, there are convenience stores, bakeries, restaurants, and souvenir shops. It's about a 5-minute walk to the subway and Intime Department Store, and roughly 5-10 minutes to West Lake. I'm very satisfied.From€40

Brought my husband here to celebrate his birthday. Hotel was immaculate from start to finish. Staff here are incredibly attentive and I didn’t even have to remind the hotel about the birthday arrangement - they handled everything from the single comment I left on the trip booking. Special thanks to Ms Harper Du Qian Qian who helped us coordinate everything. Also proactively reminding us to bring/take umbrellas from front desk on a rainy day.
Room was clean and super comfortable and the location is probably what you pay the premium for. Definitely worth a night or two to get your shopping done. Breakfast was amazing and the food offered was expansive from both local and international cuisines!

West Lake Lakeside Area Hangzhou|2.84km from city centre
The location is fantastic, right on the eastern shore of West Lake. You just swipe your room card, exit through the back gate, and you're at the lakeside. They offer a complimentary one-hour boat tour of West Lake for guests. The breakfast is superb, with Western options, various Zhejiang provincial snacks, and even rotating selections from other regions. The decor in the courtyard, Building 1, and the restaurant at the back is very distinctive. All of these are big positives! 👍
My complaints:
Room facilities: I stayed in Building 3. I checked in May 2026, and it seemed to have been recently renovated in a 'Ji Hotel' style. It still had the smell of new furniture's wood adhesive. While it didn't have the formaldehyde smell of fresh paint, the air circulation was poor with the AC on, and the distinctive smell of new furniture woke me up in the middle of the night. As for the air conditioning, no matter how I adjusted the temperature, fan speed, or switched between cool and natural air, it always stayed at one fan speed and one temperature. Then there's the lighting control – a complex series of combinations that ultimately only allowed for all lights on or all lights off. If you're in a twin room and want to leave one light on or have a slightly dimmer light so as not to disturb the other person, there's no solution.
Value for money: 1000 RMB, this was during the off-season; it would be double that during peak season.
Room view: The room size was also a bit cramped, similar to a Ji Hotel.
Parking: They have a mechanical underground parking system.
Location and transportation: Convenient.
So, it's not that the hotel is bad; the good aspects are genuinely good. I'm giving a lower score to draw the management's attention to areas for improvement.
West Lake boat tour for two for one hour: Participated, it was excellent.
Exclusive travel photography with 3 retouched photos: No one came to remind me or communicate about this.From€97

Hygiene: I always bring my own disposable bed sheets, duvet covers, and towels when I travel, and never use the hotel's. But this hotel is truly clean! Not a single stain! The room is very spacious! I booked the parent-child room, which is the only one in the entire hotel. My kids loved it!
Service: We checked in around 4 PM on the 23rd. The front desk lady was professional, efficient, and quick! She patiently answered all our questions! We had three kids with us 👶🏻 and she even gave them horse 🐴 gifts. It was our first time in Hangzhou, and she also told us about the best places to visit, which we really appreciate 🙏🏻.
Facilities: The bathroom is huge, with a separate wet and dry area and a bathtub 🛁. They provided disposable bath liners, and the key thing is, it's really clean! Absolutely no odor!
Service: Every staff member we encountered here was kind and polite! They were very responsible and dedicated in answering our questions.
The robot delivering food is adorable, though its voice is a bit low, the kids really enjoyed it.
The location is excellent! A hotel right by the Qiantang River, you can enjoy the night view and the light show from your room! Hangzhou's light show is magnificent and breathtaking! It only takes about twenty minutes to get to both the airport and West Lake. Very convenient!
Environment: The breakfast on the 40th floor is very rich. I recommend the mini wontons, mixed noodles, and small steamed buns. You can enjoy the beautiful Hangzhou scenery while having breakfast on the 40th floor! In the evening, you can also go to the sky bar on the 41st floor for drinks and enjoy the night view! The ambiance is fantastic! My favorite is the infinity pool! It's so beautiful! I will definitely stay here again next time! Facilities: Very clean, no strange odors, and the bathroom has a working sensor light. Hygiene: Good hygiene, as expected from a state-owned enterprise hotel. Environment: Elegant atmosphere, good soundproofing. Security guards and receptionists at the main entrance effectively prevent unauthorized entry. Service: The front desk staff are very friendly and always ready to answer questions. However, the water supply policy is a bit rigid, only providing 2 bottles at a time, which the hotel should improve. Breakfast is just enough to fill you up. i have been to the hot springs three times before but I had never stayed at the hotel. This was my first time.
I imagine the receptionist felt a little nervous when faced with two foreigners and maybe she felt shy. However, I found her lack of greeting, not a 你好 or 下午好, a little cold. When she did communicate with us, it was in super fast Mandarin to which I requested 请慢慢说 to no avail. She repeated just as fast twice more. I felt frustrated and then resorted to using a translation app. She called over an English-speaking Indonesian staff member. I don’t have the expectation that people will speak English to me, but I do appreciate slowing down in Mandarin and using simpler language. Hand gestures help a lot also.
I wish she had told us the WiFi password, and where to access the hot springs. These are two key pieces of information a receptionist should provide when you check into a hot springs hotel.
Our room had plastic flip flops to be worn to the hot springs. My pair had two left feet. When I showed the staff member on the second floor, she was helpful and got me a new pair.
The hot springs were lovely, as usual. The buffet breakfast was better than the buffet dinner.
The layout of the hotel leaves you walking from building to building. At first it’s confusing, but then it becomes okay.From€81

I booked Building 2 of the Hangzhou Xihu State Guest Hotel for my parents, coinciding with their wedding anniversary. I only hoped for a quiet room with a good view, but the hotel delivered an experience far beyond our expectations! First, they actually upgraded my parents to a real panoramic West Lake view balcony room in Building 2! Opening the window in the morning, the misty West Lake and Leifeng Pagoda were right before their eyes. My parents said, 'This makes life worth living.' Second, on the day of check-in, the hotel quietly prepared a cake. This personal touch was more heartwarming than any luxurious amenity. The service throughout was incredibly professional and enthusiastic; everyone was smiling and eager to help. West Lake, Lingyin Temple Scenic Area Hangzhou|3.65km from city centre
I hastily booked a room the week before the Qingming holiday. With basic Four Seasons room rates soaring to an outrageous 8k-10k, yet still maintaining almost full occupancy, I couldn't help but wonder how such an old hotel manages it. After experiencing it, it indeed made me, someone not particularly fond of the Four Seasons, reconsider the brand.
Room (p1-p3): Before checking in, I was worried that a hotel opened in 2010 might be too outdated. However, I found that it wasn't at all; it's extremely well-maintained. The fixtures are gleaming, there's a smart toilet, a TV with screen mirroring, and a Dyson hairdryer. Most thoughtfully, the issue of limited outlets in older hotels isn't a concern here, as the hotel provides multi-port sockets by the bed, and even wireless charging.
West Lake boat breakfast (p4-p6): During the Qingming holiday, being able to enjoy a private boat tour with a guide without queuing speaks volumes about its value. Aside from the price of over three thousand being a bit steep, there are no other downsides.
Jin Sha restaurant (p7): Guests get priority seating, and the complimentary sauce left the deepest impression (it's a shame it's not for sale to the public). The crispy chicken was delicious and reasonably priced.
Hotel public areas (p8-p16): Few people and beautiful scenery. After stepping out of the hotel once and experiencing the terrifying crowds by West Lake, I truly appreciated how good the hotel was.
Of course, there are also minor drawbacks ❌
1️⃣ The semi-buffet breakfast had relatively limited choices, but thankfully the taste was decent.
2️⃣ The biggest problem! During holidays, there's traffic control around the hotel, so ride-hailing services can't pinpoint the location. The hotel also doesn't provide any shuttle arrangements. The only thing you can do is call a car with the guest and ask the driver to drive further (but this doesn't work during control, as drivers will be stopped).
Finally, I ended up paying an exorbitant 1,100 to take the hotel car to MixC. This charge was also strange; a private car for an hour in the city is 500, and to Hangzhou East Station is 1,100. The hotel staff insisted that going to MixC should be charged at the Hangzhou East Station rate, even though it was only a 40-minute drive within the city.From€622

This hotel was unexpectedly good. The only issue was the travel time. I've celebrated many birthdays and anniversaries in hotels over the years, both domestically and internationally, and stayed in countless places. But only Amanyangyun prepared both a cake and flowers – something no other hotel has ever done, not even those costing over 20,000 RMB abroad. On top of that, they allowed me to extend my check-out until 4 PM the next day. This was particularly impressive because even the Four Seasons Hangzhou West Lake didn't have any rooms available until 4 PM that day, which also happened to be my birthday. Meanwhile, the Four Seasons Hangzhou West Lake demanded I check out by 12 PM the next day. When they couldn't reach me in my room because I wasn't there, the front desk brazenly swiped into my room at 2 PM while I, a female guest, was showering and getting dressed. They refused to leave even when asked, a severe violation of a woman's privacy and safety. Amanyangyun and the Four Seasons are practically the same price, but the Four Seasons showed no consideration when my check-in was delayed that day, yet they relentlessly called me multiple times when it was time to check out. This hotel is located in the Qianjiang New City CBD, right above Raffles City. The front desk is on the 27th floor, and you need to transfer elevators to get to the rooms. Upon check-in, the front desk proactively upgraded us to a deluxe river view king room. However, after checking in, we had to wait almost half an hour to get the room because it hadn't been cleaned yet. I don't understand why it wasn't ready even past 4 PM.
The room itself was spacious enough, offering a great view of the financial center's high-rise buildings, the Qiantang River, the 'Big Golden Ball', and the riverside city balcony. The bathroom with its double vanity was quite roomy, and the toiletries were Byredo. The hairdryer, though, was a Kangfu, not a Dyson, which was a bit disappointing given the price point of over 1500. It also felt a bit stingy that the mini-bar items weren't complimentary. On the positive side, the bedding was very soft, skin-friendly, and comfortable, although the pillows were a bit too low. The room's lighting design was excellent, allowing for settings from bright to soft. Turndown service was provided every evening, and anything we requested was delivered quickly.

Binjiang Area Hangzhou|8.67km from city centre
Came to Binjiang for a late-night dog walk and to pet some dogs. The hotel location is great, with delicious Ouji Food Stall and Sister Zhou's Chicken Rack nearby. After check-in, the hotel upgraded my room. The room was very clean. I informed the hotel I have rhinitis, and they even turned on the air purifier in the room beforehand. The front desk staff and the cleaning aunties were all very friendly and responsive to requests. The only minor issue is that the robot delivery service can sometimes be a bit slow, so you might need to wait patiently. During my stay, entering and exiting the parking lot was easy; just contact the front desk with your license plate number. There are dedicated hotel parking spaces on B2 and a Tesla Supercharger on B1. There's also a NIO Power Swap Station outside the building, making it super convenient for getting around.From€41

My stay was even better than expected, and this is my second time choosing this hotel! The location is convenient, and the soundproofing is excellent – no noisy traffic disturbing my sleep in the main city area in the mornings. It's also close to West Lake Scenic Area with good surroundings. The check-in process was quick, the front desk staff were friendly and helpful, answering all my questions promptly. The hotel's room manager even shared travel tips. Although the room has floor-toto-ceiling windows, the blackout curtains work perfectly. They've thought of everything! Highly recommend for tourists.From€30

Linping New Town Hangzhou|15.81km from city centre
Because I worked near Josi, I chose this hotel. The arrival time on the same day was already late at night. I made a note on Ctrip, I hope it is a non-smoking room. The high floor is far from the elevator. The hotel well recognized my needs and was very enthusiastic about upgrading. Considering that I didn't book breakfast, I also gave a free breakfast. Thank you very much. Back to the topic, let's talk about the hotel's own stay experience. To be honest, it's not a last resort, I haven't stayed for a long time. Domestic non-chain brands also have 1 point before check-in. Actually, I think I should give a good price rating. First of all, I think the size of the room is OK, not crowded, and the equipment and facilities are very complete. The facilities are also very easy to use and no defects are found. Sleeping well all night. The breakfast the next morning, I think it should be praised, whether it is the variety. Or the service of the restaurant makes people feel like a spring breeze. Finally, I want to say two small flaws. First of all, the glass in the shower room is too dirty and has been covered with pulp. A little point is deducted here. Secondly, the cold dish cold mixing area of the breakfast room. There are some cold dishes. Unable to clamp, it means that the ice may be too long. The above two small suggestions are that the hotel can improve immediately at low cost. Finally, I want to say a little extra topic. I understand the hotel very much. Need to be praised on a third-party platform. But I personally don't accept it. The active invitation-style way to give praise. It is even more unacceptable to let customers comment according to the wishes of the hotel in a rewarding way. Of course, this is my pure personal feeling. The overall flaw of the hotel is not concealed, it is still recommended to stay, especially in the Josi area. Is a good choice.From€39
