"The room was a bit small, but there was still space to open a suitcase. There's a public bath and a coin-operated laundry facility with dryers. The location is quite convenient, not far from the JR station's south exit, and close to the Hokkaido Government Office. I even caught a police band performance while walking by. If you don't mind walking, both Odori Park and Tanukikoji Shopping Street are within reach. One gentleman at the front desk was incredibly warm and polite, always greeting us when we came and went, and very friendly at checkout, even giving us a thank you card and a lavender origami crane. The cleaning staff were also very polite, sometimes asking us what time would be best to clean when we were heading out. The young lady at the front desk during check-in, however, was a bit cold, which is quite unusual for Japan."

"We had a great stay at Smile Hotel Sapporo. The location is excellent. It is close to entertainment areas, with easy access to the bus stop and subway station. The airport bus stop is also very close, just about a 3-minute walk from the hotel. The staff were nice and helpful, and the free amenities for guests were a nice bonus. The only thing I’d suggest is having a free water refill available. Overall, I love Japan, and you really can’t go wrong staying here."

"Location: From Exit S1 of Apia Underground Shopping Street, it's just two traffic lights away, about a two to three-minute walk on the surface. The location is great.
Service: My child wanted to take a bath, but the cleaning staff had already left for the day. A handsome guy with big eyes at the front desk re-cleaned the bathtub for us. We really appreciate it!

"Booked this place based on an ad, and I seriously regret it! It's quite a walk from both the JR and subway stations, so getting around is inconvenient.
Front desk staff seemed to treat us differently. White guests and locals were able to check in directly at the counter, but they insisted we use the self-service machine. We tried several times, but couldn't find our reservation information. The staff offered no help whatsoever, just watched us struggle with all our luggage without offering any porter service. It was incredibly, incredibly disappointing. This is the first time I've ever felt so angry in Japan.
Also, the hotel facilities are pretty old, and the breakfast, which costs 150 per person, was truly awful! During our four-day stay, housekeeping missed cleaning our room for two days. We only realized it when we returned in the afternoon and had to call them to come.
All in all, a very frustrating experience!"

"Location is simply excellent. Just off shoot between Tanikikoji 5 and 6 chome. Opposite the hotel is the pick up point for Airport shuttle bus to New Chitose Airport.
The hotel itself is pretty old and the room is small. Book a twin room and barely have enough space for two 28 inch lugguages.
The breakfast was touted as one of the best in Sapporo with posters within the hotel and lifts. In reality, nothing close to it. The actual sashimi selection looks unappealing. The salmon role is closer to light brown than the usual orange red colour.
Some of the staff are not so friendly perhaps of tourist fatigue? The exception was a lad serving at the entrance helping guest with their lugguages and transport. He was good and courteous. I hope the management notice his service. 👍"

"An absolutely perfect experience! This hotel, built in 1934, is nearly a century old and exudes a profound sense of history with its distinctive Japanese-Western old money charm. The lobby and public areas are understated yet sophisticated, with exquisite attention to detail. The room was impeccably maintained and felt brand new, not at all dated. Even the bathroom facilities, like the drainage and ventilation, were modern and completely odor-free. The service throughout our stay was exceptional, showcasing traditional Japanese hospitality at every turn. We were incredibly lucky to be assigned a large Hollywood Twin room in the East Wing – a spacious 40 square meters, easily accommodating two 28-inch suitcases and two snowboards with plenty of room to spare. A delightful surprise at night was catching a glimpse of Sapporo Tower from our window. The twinkling tower lights paired with falling snowflakes created a truly romantic scene. The breakfast was excellent, easily on par with some of the best hotel breakfasts in Hokkaido, offering everything you could want. A special shout-out to the apple pie for dessert – it was absolutely delicious! Thank you for taking such good care of us during our stay. We hope to visit again someday!"

"Returned to the hotel after celebrating New Year's Eve at Lake Toya, and was once again assigned a room on the 19th floor. Around 12 PM, I planned to drop off our luggage at the hotel before heading out to shop, but the hotel staff kindly allowed us to check in directly. Many thanks to the staff! After settling our bags, my child, dressed in ski gear, went off to Hokkaido University with their dad – it was even more fun after the heavy snowfall the day before. I, meanwhile, rushed off to do some serious shopping at Daimaru, haha! Our seven-day trip was truly packed, and there just wasn't enough time for all the shopping I wanted to do. We checked out promptly at 8:30 AM the next morning to head to the airport, as our flight was at 1 PM, giving us plenty of time for some pre-flight shopping. Every time I visit Japan, I never feel like I've bought enough – I want everything! Even with a 30-inch and a 26-inch suitcase, it wasn't enough, and I ended up carrying several shopping bags by hand. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time; it's new, recently renovated, and has an excellent location."

"The hotel is right next to Sapporo Station. If you're taking the subway, head towards the Toho Line and take either Exit 17 or 16 – it's directly across from there. The JR station is also right outside. It's only a ten-minute walk to Daimaru, and Hokkaido University is nearby. Plus, there's a 7-Eleven downstairs. The front desk staff are very polite and always greet you when you come and go. I was given a room on the 14th floor for my stay. On the first night, I noticed a low-frequency buzzing sound, like equipment operating. After discussing it the next day, they moved me to another room, but it was also on the 14th floor, and the buzzing sound was still there. It might be due to equipment running on the top floor. Something to keep in mind if you're staying here."

"Amazing hotel. Close to the TV tower and the park. The train station is also not far away. It's convenient for when you have to walk with your luggage in the snow. Relaxing hot bath. Lavish breakfast with a lot of options. Outstanding service.
The only complaint is that the laundry service was closed for the holidays and there is no self service laundry in the hotel. The closest one was 20 minutes away."

"I stayed here for three nights, and it was very convenient. The hotel is close to Sapporo Station. There are izakaya and yakitori restaurants right downstairs in the lobby area, and there’s a convenience store across the street.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. You can check in and check out using a self check-in machine, which was easy to use. The room was clean and not too small — it was actually great."

BB_BI chose this hotel for my family because the room was spacious, which was very important to us as we wanted our child to have enough space to move around comfortably. The hotel is new and very clean, exactly as we expected.
The complimentary drinks for all guests were a lovely touch. There was a good variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, along with popcorn, which made us feel very welcomed.
What impressed me the most, however, was how considerate and helpful the staff were. We checked out very early at 6:00 am during a snowstorm. In the middle of our journey, I realized that I had left one of my bags behind—the one containing my passport and valuable items.
I immediately called the hotel and asked if it would be possible to send the bag to the airport, as returning to the hotel ourselves would definitely cause us to miss our flight. The receptionist (I’m very sorry that I can’t remember her name) took my situation very seriously and contacted her manager to request authorization to delegate a staff member to bring my passport to the airport, since they could not leave an unattended bag in a taxi. I had offered to cover all expenses, but what truly stood out was their willingness to help without hesitation.
Ms. Wu was the staff member who personally brought my passport to the airport. With her honesty, urgency, and care, I honestly don’t know how I would have made it back to my hometown. I cannot thank her and the hotel team enough for what they did for us.
I truly believe I made the right choice staying here, and I will definitely stay at this hotel again on my next visit.

GGuest UserWe stayed for 4 nights, and it wasn't until the second to last day that we realized there was an underground passage. When I asked the front desk, they even had illustrated instructions showing where to turn. Why didn't the front desk staff tell me about this when we checked in on the first day? Anyone who's been to Hokkaido knows how unfriendly the above-ground roads can be, so having an underground passage straight to JR Station was absolutely amazing. The room seemed small at first, but once you slide open the door next to the bathroom sink, it instantly feels so much more spacious. And even though it's a compact room, it has three beds – how great is that? Every day when we got back to the hotel, the first thing we'd do was turn on the TV to check if the washing machine was free, then immediately rush down to do laundry. The public bath downstairs, while not huge, had a good-sized tub, a sauna, and seated showers. They even used POLA bath amenities, though the skincare products weren't from the same brand, which wasn't as good as what you'd find at Noji-no-Kaze. The breakfast was the same every day, which could definitely be improved. However, the miso soup was really delicious, and they had large scallops. My daily breakfast of toast, scrambled eggs, and bacon was incredibly tasty. The milk was also excellent, as expected from Hokkaido milk.

AAnonymous UserLocation: If you couldn't book the hotel's free shuttle or the Kappa Liner bus, you can take rapid bus #7 or #8 from Sapporo city center to Daiichi Hotel Mae, and the hotel is right there. There's also a bus to Sapporo Ski Resort that stops at the same platform.
Room Amenities: The room was clean, tidy, and very spacious, and it even had its own private hot spring bath.
I booked a package that included breakfast and dinner. The food was just okay, but there was a self-service bar and some snacks.

GGuest UserThe room was decent, no bathtub but the hotel has a public bath, which is standard for a business hotel. It's near Nakajima-Koen subway station, just across the street. A heads-up for everyone, it's in Nakajima Park, so if you're not near Susukino or Odori, it's a bit of a walk. It's not out of the way, but you do have to walk. Sapporo's subway isn't as frequent as Tokyo's, so sometimes walking might get you there just as fast. It's quite a hassle to drag luggage and parents through the snow when you can't use the underground walkway.

If you're looking to shop, staying in Sapporo is more convenient. However, this hotel is a good option if you have an early flight the next day. AAnonymous UserThe room isn't huge, but there's just enough space by the bathroom door for two suitcases. To fully open them and pack, you'll need to use the bed, which is typical for Japanese hotels, so it's acceptable.
It's a bit of a walk to Susukino subway station, a few blocks away, and it's even harder in the snow. I had to go to the Susukino airport bus stop, which is only a few hundred meters away, but with snow and luggage, it would have taken about 40 minutes to walk. I ended up taking a taxi from the hotel entrance, costing less than 100 RMB, and got there in just a few minutes, which was very convenient.
Overall, the price was reasonable, around 400+ RMB per night.

GGuest UserThis was my first solo trip, and I booked it through Trip.com. The transportation is incredibly convenient; it's just a short walk from Exit 7 of Sapporo Station's underground passage. We initially got a bit lost in the underground passage and used ground-level navigation, and with the snow, it was a bit chaotic, but thankfully, the distance wasn't far, and we arrived smoothly! It's super easy to get around from here, as both Sapporo Station and Odori Station are just a few minutes' walk away! The hotel layout is standard, with all the necessary amenities like a mini-fridge, safe, and a bidet toilet. The cleanliness was also fine. For extended stays, housekeeping comes every three days, but on other days, you can opt to just have your towels replaced. You just need to put your used towels in the designated bag and hang it outside your door before noon. Check-in was also smooth and quick, using simple English. After we settled in, we realized there was a Chinese guy working at the front desk. Overall, the location, cleanliness, and service attitude were all good.

If you're familiar with the area, you can use the underground passage, which is especially convenient during heavy snowfall in Hokkaido. The room is quite small but has everything you need, and the cleanliness is good. I really enjoyed the breakfast ambiance, especially sitting by the window watching the snow fall outside—it was incredibly therapeutic.

The large public bath operates on a daily rotation for men and women, and the outdoor hot spring pools on each side are different. So, you'd need to stay at least two nights to experience the full range of hot springs. The meals didn't change at all over several days, so I quickly got tired of them.
