NNathalie KarmannWhat a nice experience.
The room was exquisite.
We loved the terrace. The seats were very comfortable and we had a great view.
Cherry on top we could see a fantastic show at night.
We could also enjoy the sight of the dragon boat at night.
Bare in mind that there is no pickup from the train station. But you can take the subway and they'll come and pick you up. If your party counts 4 members, I recommend taking a cab or a didi (just like the hotel recommended us).
That said, we were given free rides to visit the city.
They can also arrange a car for you to visit other sites (paying service).
We had huge and high quality towels as well as disposable hand towels.
The toilet was a washlet like the ones we have in Japan.
The hotel was very clean. Unfortunately, they were some remodeling going on on the first floor when we stayed there and the smell of the solvent was unpleasant.
They did not have enough sitting to accommodate proper sitting for everyone but we took our breakfast up to our private terrace and enjoyed it very much.
The breakfast is a set breakfast. We could choose between 2 types of Chinese breakfast.
I can't say that I loved the breakfast but it was nice.
You can arrange it with many sauces, condiments and plenty of fresh chives and cilantro.
You can even ask for seconds.
The butler was very kind and helpful, as well as the rest of the staff as a matter of fact.
They also have a washing machine that you can use for free but you have to take care of the drying yourself.
My family and I got sick from a previous food intoxication and we were happy that we stayed in such a nice hotel.
Fenghuang old city is very festive so it can get noisy at night but the terrace's windows are of very good quality, therefore it did not bother us much. It is possible that you can hear your neighbors though.
All in all, despite being sick we had a wonderful experience at this hotel. We were happily surprised to receive a farewell gift.
We definitely recommend the place and we go back to this hotel without hesitation.
GGuest UserThis guesthouse stay exceeded my expectations! The location was incredibly convenient, making it super easy to go out for shopping and dining. It's right by the ancient city and the river. The cleanliness was excellent, and the bed was very comfortable. All the appliances were fully equipped; the air conditioning, hot water, and internet were all fantastic 👍🏻. It felt very safe and comfortable. The guesthouse also offered free parking. The butler service was great; they helped with luggage and recommended a local Miao guide who took us around the ancient city, explaining various famous residences and centuries-old stilt houses. In the evening, we also took a boat tour and watched a phoenix-themed show – it was a very rewarding experience. The hotel even provided a free Miao clothing experience. It was truly wonderful. I'll definitely stay here again next time I visit Fenghuang Ancient City. I'm already recommending Qingcheng Mountain and River Guesthouse to all my friends visiting Fenghuang!
GGuest UserThis guesthouse is located at the highest point on the edge of the ancient town, boasting a fantastic view from its balcony. It's much quieter at night than inside the town itself – a true oasis of calm amidst the hustle and bustle. Getting around is super convenient too; it's right by the road, so cars can pull up to the doorstep, and it's just a short walk to Feng Bridge. Food delivery can even come right to your room door!
The room itself was spotless, and the facilities were excellent. The duvet was incredibly soft, the bed super comfortable, and the bathroom's wet/dry separation was a great touch. Even the slippers were the kind you get in China Eastern Airlines' business class – very comfy, showing how much care and effort the owner puts into running the place. The owner also provided a map, gave us detailed route suggestions, and enthusiastically shared many interesting stories.
The little cats at the guesthouse were adorable too! Unfortunately, we were a bit short on time this trip and didn't get to play with them. I hope next time I can stay longer and enjoy their company.
Just a few small suggestions for the owner: there's a step at the bathroom entrance that elderly guests might trip on if not careful, so maybe a warning sign would help. Also, the bathroom tiles can be a bit slippery when wet after a shower when changing slippers, so a bath mat could be a good addition. Finally, there were a few water droplets left under the toothbrush holder by the cleaning staff; these might develop an odor if left to air dry, so perhaps the staff could be mindful of that.
Fenghuang is beautiful, and so is Guli (the guesthouse). It was a truly unforgettable trip, and I'd definitely stay here again if I get the chance. Wishing the owner a prosperous business and Guli even greater beauty! Looking forward to our next encounter! 😁
GGuest User[Shuiyun Yaju Wubridge Store] - Living in a Jiangnan Ink Painting on the Tuojiang River
The location is superb, right by Wubridge, much quieter than the Hongqiao side. Opening the window reveals the Tuojiang River, with views of Yunbridge and Wubridge. In the mornings, when the river is foggy, it's especially ethereal. The room is clean and the bed is comfortable. Our third-floor river-view room offered an unbeatable view.
The owner and staff are incredibly warm and helpful, offering pickup and drop-off services and providing local tips. Today, it rained, and they even drove me to the Maglev station, which I truly appreciated.
If you love peace and quiet and want to experience the charm of the ancient town, this is the perfect place. It's convenient for exploring the old town during the day, and at night, you can stroll around Wubridge and fall asleep to the sound of the water. This is the slow pace of life Fenghuang should offer. I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit.
XXiaoSongWe had a wonderful stay at this homestay with a beautiful view of the snow bridge. The place has two connecting rooms via the balcony, and my kids really enjoyed staying here. The location is excellent and very convenient. The host was very kind, waited for us at the carpark, and took us to his homestay, and can help arrange transportation if needed. Overall, a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
ZZiziExcellent! It's a large hotel with great capacity. It has its own restaurant, and the breakfast offers a good variety of dishes with distinct Xiangxi characteristics. They even gave us a souvenir when we checked out. The location is superb, just a few steps from the scenic area, and there are tons of street food options nearby! The view from the window is delightful!
GGuest UserI was very pleasantly surprised and satisfied with my stay. The hotel's design is excellent and well thought out, the staff are polite and enthusiastic, and the room was clean and tidy with no noticeable dust. The location is great, making it very convenient for visiting tourist attractions.
MM332728****The environment here is fantastic! The hotel room was spacious and spotlessly clean, with a beautiful decor. Each room has a unique name, and we absolutely loved ours, 'Jian Shan' (Seeing the Mountain). It's very close to the old town center, yet the guesthouse surroundings were completely quiet. Plus, there's an elevator, which was super convenient!
As for the service, the guesthouse owner was wonderful. They contacted us beforehand to arrange airport/station transfers. The restaurant they recommended was so good that my friend and I ate there two days in a row! They even brought us fresh fruit on the day we checked in.
The breakfast at the guesthouse was amazing, especially the rice noodles – absolutely delicious!
GGuest UserWe had a pleasant stay at this hotel. The location is great—slightly away from the main tourist areas, so it’s peaceful and less crowded, yet still very convenient. There are plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby, making it easy to find food and essentials.
The hotel faces the river, offering a nice view, and you don’t have to drag your luggage over any rocky paths—the car can drive right up to the entrance, which is a big plus.
We stayed in the rooftop room on the 4th floor. While there’s no elevator, the staff were very helpful and carried our luggage up during check-in and back down when we checked out. The owner and staff were all friendly and accommodating, which made the stay even more enjoyable.
GGuest UserPros:
- nice room
- clean
- staff helped me carry my backpack to room and took me to where taxi pickup point was
- location is centre to everything
- nice views
Cons:
- at the top of a BIG hill (it says elevator is provided but it only brings you to the start of what are a VERY long climb of stairs to your room)
- nowhere did it say the room would only be accessible via stairs (saying they have an elevator is very misleading), only because I read a review which mentioned there were stairs did I make a special request to have my bags kept at reception as I wouldn’t be able to bring them to my room. Even though I booked and made my request in advance (via Trip.com’s process when booking), they did not even read it so I had to deal with this problem once I arrived.
- wiring in the shower (not sure if it’s save or not, but made me uncomfortable)
- due to my tier level with Trip.com I was told I would get; late check out, room upgrade and free breakfast. When they checked me in and I asked about breakfast they told me that I didn’t have it included. After showing them I did, only then did they actually look at my booking - terrible. I then asked about the room upgrade as the hotel was not fully booked and they said that this was the room upgrade… it was not, this was the room I booked (which is fine, I just don’t appreciate being lied to when you clearly didn’t look at my booking).
Overall thoughts:
- if you only have one small bag that you can carry with ease, then it’s great
- if you have large/multiple/heavy luggage don’t book here! You can get a day ticket to walk up the hill (where the hotel rooms are) for pictures of the view
- Trip.com please get this hotel to actually look at the bookings made and to honour special requests and tier privileges where possible
