Xi'an Metro Tickets, Fares & Payment Methods

Xi’an Metro adopts a unified distance-based tiered pricing system, with diverse payment options and exclusive tourist passes. Below is a full breakdown tailored for international travellers, especially Canadian visitors unfamiliar with Chinese local payment systems.
Ticket Purchase & Accepted Payment Methods
1. Station TVM Ticket Vending Machines: All stations support English interface operation. Purchase single-journey tokens via cash or mobile payment. Suitable for one-time casual rides.
2. Chang’an Tong IC Transit Card: Rechargeable public transport card with 10% discount on all metro and bus rides. Available at station service counters with a ¥20 refundable deposit.
3. Mobile QR Code Riding (Best for Foreigners): WeChat International and Alipay Global support binding Canadian Visa/Mastercard credit cards, no Chinese bank account required. Generate a metro ride code to scan directly at turnstiles.
Tourist Unlimited-Ride Passes
Physical passes available at all station service desks; electronic passes available via official Xi’an Metro App:
- 1-Day Pass: ¥15 (CAD 3.14) – unlimited rides for 24 hours after first swipe
- 3-Day Pass: ¥40 (CAD 8.36) – unlimited rides for 72 hours after first swipe
Exclusive Tips for Canadian Travellers
- Overseas Payment Priority: Most Canadian travellers do not hold a Chinese local bank account. Avoid region-locked domestic payment tools; use only Alipay Global or WeChat International with bound Canadian Visa/Mastercard credit cards for seamless metro rides.
- Cost-Saving Suggestion: For intensive multi-stop sightseeing itineraries, 1-day or 3-day unlimited tourist passes are far more cost-effective than purchasing repeated single-journey tickets.
- Physical Token Rule: Always keep your single-journey physical token after entry. The token is required to exit the station gate, and a replacement fee will be charged for lost tokens.

This Novotel is in a great location close to the Drum Tower and Muslim Quarter. The hotel has so many amenities like afternoon tea, well stocked umbrellas when it rains and washer/dryers. It’s very helpful to be able to wash clothes when traveling. The breakfast buffet is well stocked with a mix of Chinese and international options. There were also some Chinese options specific to Xi’an that I also saw in the Muslim Quarter. The room was comfortable and high tech. Stella at the front desk is the only one who spoke some English and was helpful from the onset to explain everything, answer questions and even helped me to order some food via app as I was unable to do it without a local Chinese number. The only weird thing is there’s no driveway for drop off so you can only get dropped off and picked up in the street.FromUS$65

The overall experience exceeded my expectations, definitely a five-star rating! The room was clean and tidy, and the bedding was soft, so I slept very soundly. The hygiene details were meticulously handled. The front desk service was warm and attentive, check-in was efficient, and any requests were promptly addressed. The location is convenient, with easy access to dining and transportation. The soundproofing was good, and it was very quiet in the morning. It offers great value for money, and I would choose this hotel again for my next visit. Highly recommended!FromUS$63

The bell tower The drum tower/The Xi’an Circumvallation Xi'an|1.3km from city centre
This hotel is absolutely worth a special mention! First off, the location is excellent, with convenient transport links. The accompanying garden is truly unique in Xi'an. The public areas are grand and spacious, and even though it's not a tall building, it has four elevators. Our room itself was fantastic – great size, layout, natural light, and a lovely view, truly feeling like a suite.
But the most outstanding highlight is their service. From the doormen and front desk to housekeeping, everyone was incredibly polite and helpful. Any request we had was addressed immediately. We had arranged for a twin bed setup beforehand, and it was all ready when we arrived, which was very thoughtful!
Specifically, on our last day, our museum plans changed, and we couldn't get back to the hotel in time for checkout. We spoke to the front desk, and they graciously extended our checkout time on two separate occasions.
As an extra touch, the hotel breakfast offers small bowls of *paomo* (a local specialty), which was a nice little bonus.FromUS$85

We had an absolutely wonderful stay and were truly impressed by this hotel. Everything exceeded our expectations. The hotel is beautiful, modern, and feels brand new — everything is clean, fresh, and beautifully maintained.
We especially loved the thoughtful details and the warm hospitality. The afternoon tea was a lovely surprise and gave us much more than we expected. The laundry service was also perfectly organized and very convenient during our stay.
The rooms, facilities, and common areas are all elegant and comfortable. The reception team was excellent, very helpful and welcoming. Although English communication can sometimes be a little challenging in China, the staff always made a great effort to assist us and make our stay comfortable.
A fantastic hotel with wonderful service. We enjoyed every moment and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.FromUS$61

Very satisfied!
Facilities: All the fixtures are brand new. The shower pressure is great and very comfortable. There's no old or worn-out feeling as some negative reviews mentioned, only understated luxury.
Cleanliness: It's cleaned very well every day, and they even noticed we had a child and thoughtfully left two extra bottles of water, which was very attentive and considerate.
Ambiance: The antique-style decor is in keeping with the age of the hotel, and both the kids and elders really enjoyed this style. Since we're in a thousand-year-old capital, of course, we want to stay in a hotel with historical charm! There's a bronze carriage in the lobby and Tang Sancai pottery in the room, giving a feeling of traveling back 5000 years. My child even said our hotel is like a museum!
Service: From check-in to check-out, every staff member we encountered was smiling and had an excellent attitude.FromUS$75

The location of the hotel was amazing, close to the Bell Tower. There was also an ancient city wall protecting us ☺️ We came late at night, and check-in was fast and smooth. The breakfast had a wide variety of different foods. The rooms were good; however, there were multiple piles of long hair stuck to the wall, which we had to remove ourselves. The attentiveness of the cleaning staff could be improved. Overall, the experience was good.FromUS$42

Great location! Yuanjia Village restaurants are right downstairs, and there are free shows at night. The Bell Tower is just a short walk away, and an underpass leads directly to Muslim Street. International Exhibition Center/Chanba Xi'an|10.85km from city centre
My stay at Le Méridien Xi'an Chanba was, overall, a standard five-star hotel experience. Being a Marriott property, it has a certain youthful and vibrant energy. The hotel has been open for some years, and some of the facilities show signs of age, feeling a bit dated, but this doesn't detract from the overall quality of the stay.
During check-in, the smile of one front desk staff member left a deep impression; their attitude was friendly and gentle, making for a very pleasant service experience. Upon entering the room, the overall comfort was excellent. The biggest surprise was the Chanba River view outside the window. The large floor-to-ceiling windows offered expansive views, providing a fantastic ambiance whether it was the green riverbanks during the day or the city nightscape in the evening. Sitting by the window enjoying the view was incredibly therapeutic.
The room was fully equipped, and the bedding was very comfortable. There's one minor design flaw I'd like to mention: when taking a bath in the tub, the shampoo and shower gel dispensers are fixed on the vanity side, quite a distance from the bathtub, making them hard to reach while bathing. This was a slight inconvenience. Apart from that, all other details were very well executed. The pool is quite small.
Overall, it was a very comfortable stay. The view is the biggest plus for this hotel, making it suitable for travelers looking to quietly enjoy river views and relax. It would be even more perfect if the placement of amenities could be optimized in the future.FromUS$75

This hotel has a very old-money vibe, with a predominantly Chinese-style decor. This time, I checked in at the lounge, and the overall experience was great. The ladies at the lounge were very professional. Both the morning and evening views had their own unique charm. The room itself was entirely Chinese-themed, and the atrium on the B1 floor had a wonderful ambiance. It's surrounded by Grand Joy City and the Sleepless City, so the facilities are comprehensive. Dayan Pagoda/The Grand Tang Mall Xi'an|6.35km from city centre
This was the first hotel where I stayed for five consecutive nights. I'd go to Mount Hua and Xianyang during the day and return here in the evenings. Even though the hotel has been open for over ten years, the black mahogany decor in the rooms is still very well maintained. The huge lobby is incredibly grand; the only other hotel I've stayed in that can compare is the Zhongwu Hotel. The hotel's breakfast truly deserves a mention – it's incredibly varied, and the quality is excellent. They offer local specialties like 'Youpo Mian' (oil-splashed noodles) and 'Roujiamo' (Chinese hamburger), which taste just as good as what you'd find in a specialized restaurant. The attached Spanish restaurant is also authentically styled. The hotel service was great too; a minor issue upon check-in was resolved quickly, and they even gave me an extra breakfast. The hotel environment is also fantastic, with a resort-style garden. The back exit leads directly to the Furong Xintiandi commercial complex, and the front exit opens to Qujiang Relic Park, which is lovely for an morning stroll. It's also not far from the Tang Paradise and the Grand Tang Everbright City. For other destinations, there are subway and bus stations near the hotel. The only downside was that the TV signal wasn't great, with only a few channels working properly. However, since I was out late and back late every day, I didn't have much time to watch TV anyway, but I still hope they can improve it.FromUS$99

We chose Grand Barony Hotel Xi'an 🏨 for our trip, and overall it was good.
The location is excellent, right next to the subway 🚇, making transportation very convenient. The scenic rooms offer views of Yongning Gate City Wall, and downstairs are famous shopping areas like Hopson One and Wangfujing.
Upon check-in, the room wasn't ready at 3 PM and required another 40-minute wait. The hotel kindly upgraded our room, but I suggest the front desk adds more staff 🙎 during peak weekend check-in times.
The hotel's design features a corridor-style architecture, which I heard won a Luban Award. While some people like this layout, I personally found the dimly lit public areas in the evening a bit depressing.
The breakfast was absolutely fantastic, a blend of Chinese and Western dishes with a wide variety. The coffee ☕️ was good, and there were many Xi'an local specialties, with the Roujiamo 🥙 being particularly delicious 😋.
The service was also good. It's an older hotel, but it was kept quite clean. The soundproofing was average.

My stay at Grand Hyatt Xi'an was absolutely fantastic, and a special shout-out to Vivian at the front desk! She made the check-in process incredibly efficient and thorough, patiently explaining all the hotel's amenities. Knowing I had an early flight the next morning, she proactively and thoughtfully arranged complimentary airport transfer, saving me the hassle of booking a car myself. After check-in, she even presented me with a special 'energy pack' filled with authentic local snacks from Shaanxi – a truly heartwarming and generous gesture. Her communication throughout was gentle and attentive, demonstrating full professionalism. With such amazing front desk service, I'll definitely choose this hotel again on my next visit to Xi'an, and I highly recommend everyone to stay here and ask for Vivian!FromUS$100

The hotel environment is really great, with lots of greenery and trees everywhere, making for a very comfortable stay. This time I stayed for quite a while, and the butler was wonderfully attentive throughout my stay, always responding promptly to any requests and handling them with incredible patience. They even helped me find something I accidentally left behind right away, which was a huge relief when traveling with kids. This is definitely a family-friendly hotel, and choosing a package for a long stay offers great value for money.
The only minor suggestion is that the restaurant food was a bit bland, so we opted to eat out for a few days. However, the overall experience was still very good, and I would definitely consider this hotel again for our next family trip.FromUS$85

This hotel boasts an excellent location, making getting around incredibly convenient. There's an abundance of parking spaces, which is a huge plus for those traveling by car. The front desk staff were warm and friendly, and both check-in and check-out were very efficient, with thoughtful and attentive service. Our room was spotless and well-arranged, with soft and comfortable bedding. The soundproofing was also good, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep. The bathroom facilities were complete, with a stable hot water supply, and the toiletries were of good quality. The public areas were tidy and grand, and the attention to cleanliness was impressive, especially the small details. A special shout-out to the handwritten card in the family room for guests with children – it was a really heartwarming touch. The housekeeping staff even noticed we drank a lot of water and proactively left two extra bottles in our room with another handwritten note. These small details show how genuinely dedicated the staff are to their guests. Overall, it offers excellent value for money and is perfect for both leisure travel and business stays. I really enjoyed my stay. The hotel's style is a unique blend of cyberpunk and Tang Dynasty culture. Especially the room doors – I spent a while looking for mine, as they looked exactly like emergency exit doors. I totally didn't realize they were room doors! Very well hidden. The breakfast buffet was also plentiful and delicious.
The hotel also offered a complimentary 1-hour travel photography experience called 'Jinghong Travel Photography'. Since this was a purely relaxing stay, I didn't bother with makeup or nice clothes, so I just went in thinking I'd get a few casual shots and didn't have high expectations. To my surprise, the photos turned out really well! The photographer was very dedicated and skilled at guiding poses 👍
Overall, I had a very pleasant stay at W. I'm now a fan of their conditioner, and the sheets on the spa beds were incredibly comfortable. Also, the hotel's ballpoint pens write so smoothly that I, uh, *accidentally* took one home with me 🤫

At check-in, they were welcoming & found an English speaking staff member who escorted us to our room, which was super spacious & clean. The hot springs are across the driveway, but there was a shuttle car available if necessary. The breakfast had tons of options & they even indulged my requests (delivered via a translation app) for “a knife to spread butter” & “eggs with soft yolks”.
We arrived there via subway & walking. From the subway, with our luggage in tow, was 15 minutes or less. Right around the subway station are other food & store options. Without bags & at a leisurely walk, it was about 15 minutes to Huaqing palace.FromUS$56

I recently visited Xi'an Lintong with my family and specifically chose the Joyland Hotel. Our entire stay was incredibly comfortable, and both the environment and service were exceptional. It's truly perfect for family trips, and I wholeheartedly recommend it! We even got upgraded to a suite, which was fantastic!
The hotel's location is excellent, close to major attractions like Huaqing Palace and Mount Li, making it incredibly convenient for sightseeing. This saved us a lot of travel time, which was a huge plus when traveling with elderly parents and children. The hotel itself has an elegant garden style, with a quiet and serene environment, lush greenery, and fresh air. It's a peaceful escape from the city's hustle and bustle, providing a truly relaxing stay.
What truly stood out was the hotel's service. It was attentive, meticulous, and wonderfully thoughtful throughout our stay, with an exceptionally good attitude. Traveling with elderly parents and children meant we had a lot of luggage. The front desk processed our check-in very quickly, and the staff were patient and detailed, proactively telling us about nearby attractions, breakfast times, and hotel amenities. They even gave us practical tips for family travel, which was incredibly thoughtful.
During our stay, service requests were promptly addressed, and any needs we had were quickly resolved. Our room was clean and tidy, with great natural light and ventilation. The bedding was soft and comfortable, and the room was fully equipped with excellent attention to cleanliness details. The hotel's thoughtful details for our family trip truly enhanced our overall experience, making everyone feel very welcome and comfortable.

HUAQING YUTANG Hotel can be considered one of the top hotels in China. Although it doesn't have a star rating, all its facilities and services exceed five-star standards. The service, rooms, dining, and views are all first-class 👏. The costumes, makeup, stage design, and lighting for 'Song of Everlasting Sorrow' are incredibly beautiful and exquisite, and the performance is breathtaking❗️ Both the à la carte and buffet breakfast at the hotel are delicious and authentic. The buffet breakfast offers a wide variety of items, and most importantly, the quality is very high. My family loved it 😀. In the morning, you can enter Huaqing Palace directly from the hotel before other tourists arrive, making for a leisurely and pleasant visit. After exploring the park, you can head straight to breakfast – a perfect start to the day 😊. The hotel includes hot springs, including carbonic acid springs, which are very comfortable for soaking. There are also hot springs in the room, so you can enjoy a relaxing soak before a good night's sleep, which is very refreshing. Whether it was in the lobby, guest rooms, shuttle bus, restaurant, hot spring SPA, or with the doormen, every staff member we encountered was incredibly thoughtful and polite. They remembered guests, proactively identified our needs, and provided precise service, which deserves high praise 👍. The complimentary small gifts and welcome fruits were not perfunctory; they were all of high quality 👍. The hotel also provides a complimentary 'Jinghong' photo shoot where you can choose three free photos. The makeup, props, and follow-up photography were meticulously done, and the quality was excellent 👍. In summary, I am extremely satisfied. Thank you to every staff member. This was a spontaneous, short trip, a perfect reminder that plans often yield to the unexpected. Here I am in Xi'an, at the foot of the Qinling Mountains, longing to open my arms and embrace nature. I soaked in the cool breeze, the fragrant blossoms, and the gentle chirping of birds that seemed to whisper secrets. Every tiny flower here possesses a unique beauty; they don't need to be dazzling, yet their charm is utterly irresistible. It served as a beautiful reminder: you don't need to please anyone, and true happiness isn't given but earned through your own smile. I cherished the tranquility, the white swing nestled among flowers, and the vibrant green pomegranate trees adorned with their distinctive red blossoms. The shaded courtyard was a delight, featuring brightly colored rocking chairs, sun umbrellas, and a small pebble-built stream with stone and wooden bridges. In the stream, around twenty fluffy, super cute ducklings swam playfully, even hiding under lily pads when the sun grew strong. Two brown goats contentedly grazed on the lush green grass. I even playfully called out, 'Hello there, goat, can we be friends?' Haha, a unique soul indeed! The 'Eight-Point Black' rabbits were a constant favorite with the kids, and a proud white fox enjoyed its spacious cage – perhaps not its ideal home, but certainly one where its neighbors posed no challenge! Then there were the flocks of big white geese, honking away with gusto. There's also a vegetable garden, still growing. I hope to taste its fresh produce when I return – what a lovely thought! The evening scenery was enchanting, with countless small lights twinkling like stars in the sky. If you're feeling musical, you can even grab a microphone and sing a few songs. The rooms themselves were very comfortable, clean, and hygienic. For those with energy, brewing a pot of tea and chatting about life is a wonderful option. I love this place so much that I'll definitely be back. It's a perfect spot to record life's beautiful moments and ponder its many inspiring mottos.
**Facilities:** Excellent, adorning the rooms like works of art.
**Cleanliness:** Impeccable, with great attention to detail.
**Ambiance:** Beautiful and spacious. I particularly enjoyed brewing tea by the floor-to-ceiling window while admiring the natural scenery outside.
**Service:** The staff, especially one kind lady, was incredibly thoughtful and attentive.

I chose this hotel for a last-minute business trip and honestly didn't have high expectations, but my entire stay was incredibly smooth. Check-in and check-out were both efficient and quick. Once, there was a minor issue with the AC in my room, and after I called the front desk, staff came up to fix it almost immediately – the response time was excellent. The room itself was just the right size, with soft lighting and plenty of hot water pressure. The toiletries were also of good quality, and the bathroom, with its separate wet and dry areas, was spotless. In the morning, the breakfast buffet had enough variety for daily needs, and hot food was continuously refilled, so there was no rush to grab a meal. This used to be a seasoned Wyndham five-star hotel, and even after rebranding as Xinxing Grand Hotel, the facilities remain top-notch. It's a five-star hotel with incredibly affordable prices. I'd read some reviews before arriving, which lowered my expectations. However, the price was so good that I decided to stick with it, and my actual experience far exceeded them. I even feel that some of those reviews were a bit unfair to Xinxing Grand Hotel. For example, some complained about the toilet having no door, when in reality, it's a sliding door that guests might not realize is just open. The hotel's tissues and soap selections are excellent, and they even provide small tubes of Shuke toothpaste. The shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and even body lotion are all good quality. The service is also fantastic; anything we needed, the staff brought to our room immediately. While browsing hotels on the highway, I noticed that immediate confirmation was required, so I called the hotel to inquire about parking and late check-out. Although the initial person I spoke to wasn't sure, they gave me the front desk number, and the front desk agent answered all my questions very thoroughly. There's plenty of parking, and staff guided us to a spacious spot. After check-out, we were allowed to leave our car and pick it up later after sightseeing, which was very accommodating and thoughtful. As for outdated facilities, like the older model TV, these are minor details that don't detract from the overall experience, especially considering the price already reflects depreciation. The location is super convenient for getting around; exploring attractions by subway and bus is incredibly easy. The 24-hour restaurant across the street serves delicious and very clean noodles, which is a great convenience.FromUS$27

My first trip to Wuhan, and staying at The Ritz-Carlton Wuhan, truly exceeded my expectations – I'm incredibly impressed! Stepping out of the elevator, a subtle, woody fragrance enveloped me, creating a relaxed and soothing ambiance. During check-in, the staff member Jessie escorted us to our room, providing a tour. She was consistently gentle, meticulous, patient, and thorough in her explanations, making for an excellent service experience.
We booked a room with executive lounge access, and the room offered expansive, open views. After dropping off our luggage, we headed straight to the Executive Lounge. It truly lives up to its reputation as arguably the largest executive lounge in Asia; the views are superb, and the overall offerings are completely worth the value. The food selection was rich and diverse; compared to executive lounges in hotels of similar caliber, the quality and variety were genuinely impressive, and the desserts were particularly stunning.
The hotel's Executive Lounge offers five food presentations throughout the day, and we experienced all but afternoon tea. The evening dining atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant. After 8:30 PM, during the dessert and drinks session, we could even order custom-made cocktails. The beds and pillows were excellent; I almost overslept and missed my flight! Stepping into the hotel was an immediate escape from the summer's hustle and bustle. It's a shame I was only there for a layover and stayed just one night. My mom even said it's better than some of the older five-star hotels in Shanghai. Places like Xijiao State Guest Hotel and Park Hotel don't have interiors this nice, and the Fairmont Peace Hotel lacks greenery. The front desk staff were all friendly and welcoming; a young man with glasses even quickly made me a new card when I couldn't find mine. The service staff, the waiters in the bar and restaurant, and the bellhops – everyone was incredibly attentive. As someone who's worked in the InterContinental Hotels Group for several years, I really appreciate that the employees here genuinely seem happy in their work, not just punching in and out. It's a much better experience than the InterContinental hotels in Lijiang and Jiuzhaigou. Even with many European guests, I never felt that domestic travelers were neglected. I'll definitely stay here again. I truly feel they deserve a great review. The only thing is, I think the decorative figurine in the restroom is quite fragile. I usually like to dance in the bathroom, but I'd be afraid of breaking it if I did here. Anyway, full marks! I praised the Hu La Tang (spicy soup) at breakfast twice – it was delicious! Completely different from the bustling city vibe around the Bell Tower, this Tang-style garden hotel is nestled in Qujiang. With its courtyards, waterside pavilions, and winding corridors, the architecture exudes the charm of the prosperous Tang Dynasty. The hotel is right next to Qujiang Lake, and they offer complimentary sightseeing bus and boat tours of Qujiang, which was a great experience. The environment is quiet and peaceful, a welcome escape from the city noise.
After exploring, I felt Qujiang has a unique charm, somewhat like Hangzhou's West Lake, similar to Suzhou's Jinji Lake, and even a bit like Shanghai's New Jiangwan City. It's also a short taxi ride to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Grand Tang Everbright City.

To be fair, since the hotel opened quite a while ago, the room's hardware facilities aren't its strongest suit. The curtain switch was a bit faulty, but it didn't really affect its use. However, the cleanliness was very well maintained. The front desk and staff were all very enthusiastic, proactively offering help and resolving any issues, so the service was absolutely top-notch.
The hotel's location is excellent, right near the Bell Tower, with great transport links, making it easy to get around. However, because it's located within a courtyard, if you're on a lower floor, you can only see the old courtyard walls outside your window. Cleanliness: The room was tidy and comfortable, and the bedding and bath amenities were very clean. However, the pillows had a slight odor of hair oil.
Environment: The surrounding area has convenient transportation. The Xigong University subway station is just a few minutes' walk away, including a pedestrian overpass. There are also street food vendors just a few steps away. My only complaint is that Xi'an surprisingly doesn't have shared e-bikes, only shared bicycles. I did a lot of research for my trip to Xi'an and finally settled on this hotel. The location is absolutely unbeatable. Xiangzimiao Street is right downstairs, full of unique shops. It was so convenient to explore late into the evening and just walk a few steps back to the hotel.
The biggest surprise was the fourth-floor terrace. Having breakfast there in the morning was a real 'wow' moment! It faces directly onto the Yongning Gate city wall, and the view is just incredible. Every photo I took looked great, and so many people asked me which hotel it was when I posted them. The breakfast tasted delicious, and I recommend the beef noodles.
