My recent business trip to Vientiane led me to stay at the Vientiane City Hotel, and the overall experience far exceeded my expectations – it's definitely a high-quality business hotel. The room was spacious and airy, with panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows offering a superb view. In the evening, you can overlook the city's residential areas and the distant airport, creating a wonderful ambiance. The room decor is modern and minimalist, with luxurious flooring, soft and skin-friendly bedding, and excellent soundproofing. After a busy day, you can get a peaceful night's sleep. The bathroom amenities are meticulously chosen, featuring a marble countertop, a separate shower, stable and abundant water pressure, and high-quality toiletries for a comfortable washing experience. The mini-bar setup was a pleasant surprise, with a retro kettle and a mini-fridge stocked with drinks and ice glasses. The attention to detail is remarkable, giving it a very homey feel, so even a long stay wouldn't feel monotonous. The buffet breakfast offers both local Laotian flavors and Western simple meals. The taste is authentic, the dishes are exquisitely presented, and you can freely combine items as needed to start your morning full of energy. The hotel's security management is rigorous, with standardized entry and exit procedures. During a business trip to Vientiane, a sense of security in accommodation is particularly important, and I felt completely at ease during my stay. The staff were polite and professional, and the front desk responded promptly, making communication smooth and efficient. The hotel's location is convenient for travel, making it easy to get to major government and enterprise units and business districts. With brand-new hardware, tasteful design, and comprehensive facilities, it's suitable for both short business stays and longer-term assignments. Great location, about a 3-minute walk to the morning market and bus station. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included, and if you're leaving before 8 AM, just let them know and they'll pack it for you. It's affordable and the bathrooms are clean.

I regret to say that this is by far the worst five-star property in Vientiane. In fact, they should place a disclaimer stating that it is strictly for Chinese guests, as communication is virtually impossible unless you speak Chinese. Despite displaying a five-star plaque, the experience falls egregiously short of that standard. Whenever I spoke in English, staff members would merely glance at me and offer no response at all; some even turned their backs and walked away, as if signaling that they simply do not care to understand English. There was only a single English-speaking staff member at the front desk. Unless she is present, it is best not to utter a word—unless you wish to be met with icy indifference. The male waitstaff at the restaurant readily responded, but only in the most perfunctory manner. When I inquired in English whether an omelet could be made, a staff member nodded, so I placed an order. When I returned five minutes later and found nothing prepared, I brought it up again; he pretended not to hear me before dismissively waving his hand, claiming they had no such thing. It was commonplace to witness guests lying across sofas directly behind breakfast tables while shouting amongst themselves, or strolling shirtless around the food stations. Perhaps because it is one of the newer five-star properties in Vientiane, the room condition itself remains decent. However, the hospitality across the board—from the front desk and restaurant to the cafe—toward guests who do not speak Chinese leaves one utterly speechless. As someone who genuinely appreciates China and has traveled across dozens of major Chinese cities, it is deeply disappointing to encounter such an experience outside the country. A recent local news report in Vientiane even covered an arrest involving a scam syndicate operating out of this hotel. I sincerely hope this establishment will evolve into a five-star hotel that truly honors China's name in Vientiane.

I have to say, the service quality, staff professionalism, and overall environment here are truly top-notch! Plus, you can enjoy beautiful views right from your room. Staying at the Athens Hotel elevated my satisfaction with this trip to a whole new level.

The hotel is in a fantastic location with a luxurious atmosphere. The front desk staff speak English very well, and the restaurant team is equally fluent. I really loved how the hotel truly captures an authentic Lao vibe. However, I’d like to note a few things that I feel a five-star hotel should have. No room slippers provided, which I believe are an essential amenity. No bidet spray in the bathroom, which is pretty much a must-have for modern bathrooms. The bed is quite small for a five-star standard. Normally, it should be at least a King-size (6ft), but this was a Queen-size (5ft). Overall, it was still a great experience and not bad at all. I’m still giving it 5 stars.

The room was very clean and the breakfast was great. The staff were also friendly, and there were many Korean restaurants nearby which was even better. There's also a supermarket about 100m away, perfect for buying souvenirs.

Great breakfast. The staff are lovely, especially the female morning manager. No cigarette smell in the room. Housekeeping provides good service, and there's a mini-mart for shopping. We stay here often; every time we get a chance, we come back. The place is beautiful, and there are many foreigners.

The hotel facilities are great, perfect for business trips. Big C and Starbucks are right downstairs, and transportation is very convenient. It's only a few kilometers to the Arc de Triomphe, making it suitable for both leisure and business travelers.

Vientiane Plaza Hotel Overall, the hotel offers good value for money. The staff were excellent and very helpful. My girlfriend accidentally booked the wrong month (it was her first time booking), but the team handled the situation professionally. There was one short female staff member in particular who was very friendly and supportive we really appreciated her help. Cleanliness and service were both excellent. The location is also very convenient, with a large shopping mall within walking distance and a popular night street food area about 15 minutes away. You can also use the Koko app (around 20,000 kip) instead of the hotel taxi — it’s very convenient in Laos. Breakfast had many options, but the food preparation could be improved. It would be great to see more vegetarian choices, such as rice, vegetable soup, or Indian-style vegetable dishes that pair well with rice. The hotel is still undergoing upgrades, and some areas on the 5th floor were quite dark and felt a bit uncomfortable. Hopefully this will improve once renovations are complete. Also there is a coffee shop downstairs and as well a club with very good music and a lively mix of people a nice place to socialize and make friends. Overall: A good hotel with great staff and good value. With some improvements to breakfast quality and ongoing renovations completed, it would be even better.
