Dali City Hostels

The service was excellent. They helped with luggage and greeted us warmly. The other guests were also very friendly, and everyone greeted each other. The decor was lovely, with many books displayed near the entrance. There was a bar/restaurant with outdoor tables, and an open-air area for watching movies. The Wi-Fi speed was very good. The location was quite remote, surrounded by farmland and farmers. There were few shops; you had to take a taxi or walk to the main road to catch a bus to the old town or city center to find any shops. While taxis were a bit hard to find, they were still quite convenient and would drop you off right at your door. In summary, the atmosphere and theme were excellent. It felt like you could see Da Bing (a famous Chinese writer and actor) any second. Everyone there was very nice. If you enjoy a quiet time in Dali, watching the blue skies and white clouds, this is an excellent choice.

A very comfortable guesthouse. The owners were very welcoming; the owner was lovely, had a story to tell, and was very talkative. The whole family was very friendly and helpful, even helping with our luggage – thank you so much!! Actually, I wasn't really into the food in Dali this time, and was a little disappointed, but the owner recommended some nearby ”non-trendy” restaurants: Blueberry Fish and Ganggang Rice Noodles. They were within walking distance, delicious, and in a great location – right next to the March Street Market, and there's also a Lotus Root Shop nearby, which is great for browsing. It's also very convenient to walk to the Old Town. And!! Peach the dog is so cute! A chubby little dog, so adorable and easy to pet. He even got up later than us this morning, haha! Hope to see him again sometime!

The owner is very kind and welcoming, and the hostel is very clean. The room also has great soundproofing! However, I'd advise female travelers to avoid room 2002. There's a long-term tenant who has a terrible temper. She slams the door violently whenever she comes and goes, and she plays poker (Dou Dizhu) at 2 AM, which is very loud. If you try to talk to her, she'll just yell profanities. If it weren't for my leg injury and the fact that other rooms didn't have lower bunks available, I really wouldn't want to share a room with her. 😓

Hygiene: Pretty good, the bedding was clean, and the bathroom was clean too. Facilities: There was a bed curtain, a small lamp, and a washing machine. There's a small balcony. One minor issue: the bathroom door closes slightly with a gap, which makes me feel a little uneasy, but otherwise it's quite good.

A comfortable stay, with helpful staff. Lots of young people who were generally friendly and helpful. I think there's a good community here. The smoke from the nightly campfire was unpleasant as our room faced the front yard. Thankfully we managed to close the windows. The hostel is set in a village just outside the old city - about 10 minutes walk, I think. Very conveniently located near the #8 bus route to the train station.

I think we got upgraded to a family room but we definitely didn't mind the extra space including a couch and table. They had a waterboiler and cups and comfortable beds with extra blankets, however the remote for the AC was missing and it got pretty chilly at night. Did not make that big of a difference anyway since the AC was located outside the bedroom. Small notice for foreign guests: It was very hard finding the place since the map didn't show the exact location and doorsigns we in chinese/ didn't match the description on trip.

Out of all the cities we visited in Yunnan, this one was our family's favorite. The room was spacious and clean, and you could really tell the owner pays attention to the details. Everything, even the toiletries, was high quality, showing just how much care they put into running this hotel.

This hostel isn't far from March Street, and it's surrounded by a small forest. You can also walk to the ancient city, which is very convenient. The female and male floors are separate, with individual restrooms and showers, so you don't have to worry about sharing. There are many activities, and the price is very affordable. It's a great place for those who enjoy meeting new people.

This hostel exceeded my expectations! The location is super convenient for getting around. The common areas are clean, bright, and have a relaxed, friendly vibe, perfect for solo travelers looking to meet like-minded people. My room was tidy, the bedding was clean, and the bathroom was spotless with a stable hot water supply. The owner and staff were warm and easygoing, patiently recommending local routes and offering helpful tips to avoid tourist traps – very thoughtful. The facilities are comprehensive; the communal living room is great for relaxing, chatting, and even taking care of some personal tasks. Overall, it's quiet and not noisy, ensuring a good night's sleep, making it excellent value for money. It doesn't feel overly commercialized and has that authentic travel atmosphere. Whether you're on a short layover or a longer trip, this is a fantastic choice. I'll definitely prioritize staying here again next time. Highly recommended for backpackers!
