GGuest UserThe room with its high ceilings and partitioned wash/shower area was spacious and the config was perfect for our family of 2 adults and 2 kids. The Jurlique toiletries were also a treat! The kids also particularly enjoyed the voice automated control system that controls the lights, curtains, music etc. Location is great too, just opposite the People's Park, where we took the chance to pop over the observe the Marriage Market on Sunday. We discovered belatedly on our last day that there's actually an underpass shortcut to Nanjing Rd East via the New World Shopping Mall next door, that would have shaved off at least 10 mins of walking / road crossing. The most disappointing part of the hotel has to be the breakfast. Firstly the tiny breakfast area seemed like a makeshift spot, or an afterthought. Not sure what was the design thinking behind it. Typically with an a la carte menu, you would expect the food to be of a certain quality but it was from it. The food was mediocre, pancakes came burnt, cereals were stale, the onsen egg with salmon was bizarre (not sure if it was supposed to be an egg benedict?), service was spotty. Until they improve their breakfast service, would strongly suggest just booking the room only. The dining experience is such a big disconnect

AAnonymous UserThe Executive Room was spacious and airy, with soft, comfortable bedding and exquisite bathroom amenities. The soundproofing was excellent, allowing for a truly peaceful rest. The hotel's location is superb, making getting around a breeze; you can hail a taxi right downstairs. A special shout-out to Jeremy from the Executive Lounge! From check-in to departure, he was attentive and thoughtful throughout. He proactively explained all the lounge benefits, from breakfast and afternoon tea to evening service, arranging everything with meticulous care and warmth. He was quick to respond to any request, demonstrating professionalism and genuine hospitality that made us feel like family. Our experience was perfect, highly recommended!

GGuest UserTL;DR: Do not stay here—at least not in our room. The J Hotel has serious sanitation issues, falsely advertises “Bund View” rooms, and responds to legitimate complaints with insulting compensation. This was meant to be a gift for my mother’s final two nights in China; instead, it was my worst hotel experience. 1. Unacceptable sanitation – mud in the tub We stayed in room 9010, a “Grand Suite Bund View.” My mother ran a bath and found mud/sediment in the tub after it filled (photo attached). Maintenance told us this is “common” when the pipe hasn’t been used for two days. That’s false—and even if true, it admits this “luxury” hotel doesn’t clean properly. The mud reappeared the second day. For any hotel this is inexcusable; at over 6,000 RMB/night, it’s disgusting. 2. “Bund View” is a deliberate lie I booked this room specifically to see the Bund and Oriental Pearl Tower lights at night, paying double a standard room. What we got was almost pitch black; on a clear night, it looked like distant fireflies. This wasn’t weather—we saw clear views from the lobby and 120th floor. Staff admitted that every room has privacy film and a secondary glass layer that intentionally blocks outward visibility. They showed us a room five floors above facing the same direction—equally obstructed. If so, the hotel has no business advertising “Bund View.” It’s a marketing lie. We asked for an upgrade; they said I already paid for the best in this tier and the next would cost 10,000+ RMB/night which was too much to comp. We asked for a refund; they refused, claiming no authority. 3. Petty service recovery After complaints of mud and a fake view, a manager offered one extra complimentary breakfast and a 100 RMB minibar credit. We requested two comped breakfasts to feed family members taking us to the airport. They said each breakfast costs 368 RMB and refused the second—screenshot attached. They were polite but chose to nickel-and-dime us. 4. A culture of inflexibility Even minor requests were denied or given runaround: · I asked for a coffee to go 30 minutes after breakfast, specifying a pickup time so ice wouldn’t melt. They said I could only take it immediately upon leaving breakfast. Kitchen blamed front desk; front desk blamed kitchen. · I requested luggage be brought down to match our car arrival. They said it needed 20 minutes, so I had to check out 20 minutes early—causing an awkward wait without a room. These courtesies I’ve received at hotels costing 1/10th the price. At 6,000 RMB, they’re baseline expectations—not favors. We didn’t feel this was a luxury property. It’s a high-rise with expensive decor, dirty pipes, deliberately obscured windows, and management that claims to care but can’t fix real problems. Their final offer of ~$15 and one meal told me exactly how much they value trust and time. Save your money. Book elsewhere. The public-area views are great—and free. The hotel itself is beautiful, with top-notch art and decor, but that doesn’t justify the stay.

AAnonymous UserI originally booked a Deluxe River View Room at The Peninsula, but to my pleasant surprise, I received a complimentary upgrade to a River View Suite! What an amazing bonus! The suite offered a stunning, expansive view directly overlooking the beautiful Bund, creating a fantastic ambiance. The hotel's service was meticulous and attentive, the facilities were top-notch, and the environment was serene and elegant. During the holiday season, I even received some delightful complimentary treats. The whole experience was absolutely fantastic – truly a benchmark in luxury.

GGuest UserIn a word, the Banyan Tree hotel did not disappoint us. We stayed there for eight consecutive days, enjoying the high-quality service of a luxury hotel every single day. Although we had to wait about 20 minutes to check in, it was because my wife is sensitive to all hair, so they specially treated our room. By the time we opened the door to our room, our luggage was already there. The room design was impeccable, with huge windows offering a perfect view of the boats cruising on the Huangpu River and the Shanghai skyline. Not only was the breakfast abundant, but it was also served for an exceptionally long time, until 12 PM. The restaurant staff were incredibly diligent and responsible. On one occasion, my wife left her sun hat near the hotel restaurant and thought it was lost outside, but they actually found it the next day. Furthermore, the lobby manager and concierge were very responsible; they proactively helped us track every package we ordered online and had delivered to the hotel. Our private butler was also very attentive, always resolving our issues quickly and perfectly, and proactively asking if we needed any further assistance. Many small details like these made us truly love this hotel. Of course, only praising the hotel would seem a bit unrealistic. We feel that the area most in need of improvement is the room's hardware facilities. Some details in the room showed cracks in the flooring, peeling cement and broken bricks on the walls, and the drainage system wasn't perfect. We hope the hotel will undertake renovations and improvements when the opportunity arises. It's understandable for a hotel that's over ten years old; maintaining it to this extent is already quite an achievement.

GGuest UserThis time, my family and I stayed in an Executive Suite at the Pullman Shanghai Jing An. First off, the hotel's location is incredibly convenient. It's right near Shanghai Railway Station, so if you're coming by high-speed rail, you're there in just five minutes after exiting the station. There's also Metro Line 1 right outside, about 50 meters away, making it easy to get to many famous Shanghai attractions. The suite consists of a bedroom and a living room, which was more than enough space for our family. The living room has a sofa bed that unfolds into a small bed, which was very practical. The room itself was clean and tidy, with complete amenities, and the kids really enjoyed the screen-mirroring TV. The front desk service was excellent, both during check-in and check-out. We'll definitely stay here again.

GGuest UserThe Waldorf Astoria's century-old ambiance is ingrained in its architecture, but the warmth truly comes from our concierges, Aaron and Katrina. During our chat, they meticulously explained the history and signature dishes of various restaurants, offering unique dining tips for everything from the three-tiered afternoon tea at Peacock Alley to the Western cuisine at Pelham's open kitchen, and even the retro long bar at The Long Bar. Their thoughtfulness extended to every small detail, and the farewell gift at check-out felt incredibly ceremonial. This genuine sincerity made our Bund trip truly complete, and we will definitely return.

Uuncle jokerThe service was excellent! I was pleasantly surprised to receive a room upgrade upon arrival. The late checkout until 2 PM was a real lifesaver. This is a huge plus, as Banyan Tree, for instance, was completely inflexible about late checkouts, which is partly why I chose W instead. I hope this late checkout option remains available!

GGuest UserThis was my first time staying at the Andaz Xintiandi Shanghai, and I was especially impressed with the personalized service from Daniel. From arranging our room based on my pre-arrival inquiries and confirming my arrival time, to securing a high-floor room and upgrading us to a room with a fantastic view, everything was perfect. The room's view and outlook were excellent. Daniel was also incredibly responsive with restaurant recommendations after check-in, arranging parking, and answering any questions we had during our stay. The attention to detail in their service truly shows how well-managed the hotel is. I'll definitely choose Andaz again next time, and a big shout-out to Daniel for his amazing service! 👍

AAnonymous UserThe hotel's location is absolutely fantastic, surrounded by numerous mall restaurants, making dining and shopping incredibly convenient! Janet, Penny, and Aria all provided exceptionally attentive service! They were warm, thoughtful, and responded quickly – definitely worth praising! The room was comfortable, the bedding clean and soft, and the view was beautiful. For this price, the quality you get is amazing value for money. Next time I'm in Shanghai, Conrad will definitely be my top choice. Highly recommended!!!
