"Excellent hotel! I originally planned to stay at a traditional onsen hotel in Beppu, but I stumbled upon this one, saw great reviews, and decided to give it a try. I was extremely satisfied! The breakfast was the most lavish and delicious I had during my 9-day trip to Japan. It was absolutely divine! In the evenings, complimentary welcome drinks are offered (alcoholic beverages incur a 1000 yen charge). You can borrow yukata from the front desk. There's a large public bath on the 14th floor, and the rooftop features a terrace pool and a bar, offering stunning night views of Beppu Tower, perfect for photos. Just note, the pool is quite shallow and not really suitable for serious swimmers. The bathroom layout is well-designed with a separate wet and dry area, and the shower space is very spacious. Its prime location is another major plus, just a 10-minute walk to JR Beppu Station. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Beppu!"

"The atmosphere was very relaxing and chill — perfect for couple and a group getaway. The staff were friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. One little thing - the bathroom door of this room type is somehow translucent sliding door, no lock, which can be a bit uncomfortable when staying with a group. A normal one would offer more privacy. Overall, a great experience!"

"This hotel is perfectly located right in the heart of Beppu's Hells, with attractions literally on its doorstep. All five Hells (Jigoku) are within a 3-5 minute walk, which is incredibly convenient! While the hotel's exterior is unassuming, its interior is a hidden gem. The Japanese garden in the common areas is beautiful. Our room was spacious with a great view, allowing us to see the steam rising from the Hells. Plus, having a private onsen in the room meant we could soak to our heart's content! We even had the large public bath all to ourselves during our visit. The Teppanyaki set meal we booked was a good experience, though we wished there was a little more meat. We specifically requested Japanese-style breakfast when booking, but for some reason, we were given Western-style instead. When we inquired, the staff informed us that it couldn't be changed. On a very positive note, it was our wedding anniversary trip, and the hotel thoughtfully prepared a small gift and took commemorative photos for us – a very nice touch! Aside from these minor issues, everything else was fantastic. The only real downside was the hotel's shuttle service to the station. While they offer it, the last departure is strictly before 11 AM. If you miss it, you have to take a taxi. It feels a bit inconvenient to offer a service with such a limited timeframe. For instance, we visited the Hells in the morning and ended up leaving the hotel after 11 AM, so we had to take a taxi to the JR station. An improvement here would be much appreciated! Overall, my husband, who was visiting Japan for the first time, said it was an excellent Japanese onsen hotel experience. He gives it a big thumbs up!"

"The hotel is incredibly clean, and the rooms are beautifully traditional Japanese-style. Unfortunately, many hotels in Japan nowadays no longer retain traditional room styles, which I find very regrettable. Japan should strive to preserve its cultural heritage rather than blindly renovating everything into a 'nightclub style'. A hotel in Japan should authentically represent Japan, preferably offering traditional tatami rooms. What's more, the price is quite reasonable."

"The entryway is very spacious, and the room itself is surprisingly large, even bigger than it appears in the photos. The sea view is beautiful, and soaking in the hot spring at night felt just like having a private onsen. There's a bus stop right outside, with direct service to Chinoike Jigoku (Blood Pond Hell). Beppu Kitahama is right next door, and Don Quijote is just a short walk further. While it's a bit of a walk from Beppu Station, staying right by the sea often means sacrificing a little bit of convenience."

"In general, the price of S3,000 per night is too bad for the price-performance ratio. We booked one night and two meals. The breakfast variety is acceptable. The only meat is a pitiful amount of fried pork belly. There is no cooked food. Then there is rice, porridge, and noodle soup. The fruits are kiwis, bananas, oranges, and red-fleshed oranges that are cut into small pieces. There are only these four kinds. Although there is nothing to eat in the morning, it is good to have rice to fill your stomach. Dinner is even worse. You have to buy alcohol and drinks by yourself. The set meal has six dishes, and the plating is very small and not delicate. My husband is not full every night, so he has to go back to the hotel for instant noodles after dinner. The hot spring water is very good and the open-air hot spring is also very comfortable. Except for the fake politeness of the front desk every time they passed by, there was no service at all. "I've stayed at Beppu Kamenoi Hotel multiple times, and it consistently delivers a great experience. The hotel is quite large. While it's an older property and some of the facilities show their age, it's very well-maintained and impeccably clean. The hotel's onsen (hot springs) are a major highlight – absolutely fantastic for melting away fatigue. Inside the hotel, there are several restaurants, all serving delicious food at reasonable prices. Its location is superb, just a few minutes' walk from the JR station, making it incredibly convenient for travel. We made good use of our JR Pass to easily visit Oita and Kokura."

"An absolutely fantastic onsen ryokan with a superb, prime beachfront location. It was the most affordable onsen ryokan I booked for this trip, yet it turned out to be the most delightful surprise. The tall gentleman at the front desk provided absolutely outstanding service! He was so warm and friendly, and his sincerity truly shone through. Much appreciated! Definitely make sure to reserve the private open-air onsen on the 6th floor. Soaking in the onsen while watching the sunset is such a blissful experience. The room we booked also came with its own private onsen. It offers incredible value for money. All the staff members were incredibly polite, and the breakfast was delicious too! I absolutely adore Beppu city!"

"The transportation is not very convenient, suitable for self-driving. If you don't have a car, you can take the bus to the foot of the mountain, which takes about 15 minutes to walk. The environment is quiet, there are five hot springs to experience, but due to the Spring Festival, the prime time is basically full, and the service is meticulous and thoughtful. The Wagyu dishes for dinner are very delicious, and the private baths and public baths are very clean. Although the breakfast tastes Japanese, the overall stay experience is great. If you want to experience a stay and two meals, you can come and experience this restaurant."
