Guest houses in Madrid

We had a mixed experience staying here. On the positive side, the hostel was clean and in a really convenient location, which we appreciated. However, there were a few issues that made our stay quite uncomfortable. Our room didn’t have a proper window, which made it feel very stuffy and poorly ventilated, and unfortunately it triggered our allergies, which we mentioned to the receptionist. The bed was also quite stiff, and the pillows were very thin—we had to fold and stack them just to be comfortable. Noise was another challenge. The neighbouring room seemed to be having a party at around 3am, with very loud music and audible conversations,  which made it difficult to sleep. The staff were polite and friendly, but we didn’t feel we received much practical help when we raised our concerns. We tried to cancel the remainder of our stay due to these issues, but were advised to go through the booking platform. We did this but our request ended up pending for some time as the ”hotel was being contacted” and was eventually declined, which was frustrating. In the end, we decided to check out earlier than planned and book alternative accommodation. Overall, while the cleanliness and location were great, the lack of ventilation, comfort, and noise control made it hard for us to fully enjoy our stay—especially as we were there for our honeymoon.

Traveling between Atocha Station and the hotel was hassle-free, even with large suitcases. The proximity to the subway station also made the location incredibly convenient. It might have been because we stayed over the weekend, but it was quite lively outside. The room was clean and comfortable, though there was no cleaning service or towel change. The entrance is self-locking, but we checked in before noon (during staffed hours), so it was smooth. However, for those unfamiliar, it might be worth noting that there are unstaffed periods.

Located near Puerta del Sol, this hotel is right in the heart of the bustling city center. The building has a lot of history, and once you push open the heavy wooden door, you'll find a clean, simple white room layout. The room even has a small balcony where you can watch the lively street below. The location is absolutely unbeatable!

Great if you're staying for just a few days. I chose this single room because I was arriving late by plane, and it allows for check-in at any hour, but the conditions they set and the potential charges for every single thing are absurd. They provide an endless list of extra fees in case anything happens.

Location in central Madrid. Almost on foot the main attractions. Nearby authentic cafes where you can eat deliciously. Welcome staff, immediately answering any question. It also liked that the access information, the password from wi-fi duplicated on email and WhatsApp

This was a converted apartment, with private bedrooms and shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. The place was impressively clean throughout our stay, with cleaners coming through each morning. You are also provided a key to lock the bedroom door so we didn't have any concerns about security. Wifi also worked fine and there was mobile reception (this must've been fixed from older reviews). Having access to a kitchen made it easy to have breakfast in and you are allocated a shelf in the communal fridge. The other guests were very respectful, which helped create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. That said, it’s worth noting this is not a party-style stay — it works best if everyone is mindful that it’s a shared environment as noise does travel through the hallway. The bedroom itself was large and spacious, with plenty of wardrobe space. Location-wise, it’s slightly outside the very centre — not right in the middle of the action — but still very accessible. We were about a 20-minute walk to Plaza Mayor and ended up walking most places, and there’s also a metro station less than 5 minutes away if needed. Overall, a great option if you’re looking for a clean, comfortable, and well-connected place to stay in Madrid, especially if you don’t mind being just outside the busiest areas.

The hotel's location is very convenient, just steps away from the subway, which made exploring the city quite easy. However, I did notice that the alley where the hostel is situated has a somewhat questionable vibe, especially at night. If I had been alone, I might have felt unsafe walking through it. The hostel room itself didn't detract from our overall experience visiting the city. It was functional and served its purpose. That said, I found the staff not particularly proactive in assisting guests. Additionally, I feel the photos on the booking site are a bit misleading, especially regarding the entrance and the corridors inside the hostel. They give a more welcoming impression than the reality. If I were to visit again, I would probably consider other options that might offer a more secure and transparent experience.

The location of the hotel is good, just near the train station, but because it is Hostel, there is no obvious facade, looking for a lot of time to find, the reception people do not understand English, through the computer translation to complete the dialogue. Service attitude is not bad.

how much I love Spain is how badly I was frustrated by the poor service provided via one of the telephones they left for contact upon arrival. The guy on the phone was really irritable and if you don't speak Spanish be ready for feeling stupid, dumb, and unwelcome. Up to 7 tourists arrived by 3 pm and we were all trying to get the formularios on our whats app to eventually get into the rooms but the codes weren't working in the beginning. Complete chaos. I won't dwell into the room conditions (the smell, the bed, the patio view), putting 5 stars to that because I can tolerate A LOT as long as the room ain't have living objects in it. I didn't see any cockroaches so it was fine in the end. Plus a good wifi connection, perfectly cleaned shared bathroom. See, I can put up with many things - so imagine how bad the service was to spoil the stay even for me. In my background they usually say that for this level of quality and an unmatching price the reception is considered to ”kiss clients' a**es” (I don't support this discourse). Here - ... vice versa.
