What Are Vietnam’s Newest Entry Declaration Documents?

Vietnam Arrival Card Airport Immigration

Vietnam now uses two separate mandatory entry declarations (not a replacement for your visa):

  1. Digital Pre-Arrival Card (New 2026): Mandatory online declaration for travelers landing at Tan Son Nhat (SGN, Ho Chi Minh City); generates a QR code to speed up immigration.
  2. NA1 Form: Traditional entry/exit declaration (replaced old M3 Form); only required for Visa on Arrival (VOA) users and land/sea arrivals.

Key Clarification for Canadians

  • e-Visa holders: Do NOT need the NA1 Form
  • Visa-exempt & e-Visa travelers (SGN only): Must complete the Digital Pre-Arrival Card
  • VOA travelers (all airports): Must complete both Digital Pre-Arrival Card (SGN only) + NA1 Form
  • All documents are 100% free and available in English.

🚨 Newest Vietnam Entry Official Update (Effective April 15, 2026)

Vietnam Updated Pre-arrival Form
  • Mandatory Digital Pre-Arrival Card: For ALL foreign nationals arriving at SGN Airport
  • Current applicable airports: SGN (mandatory); Hanoi (HAN) & Da Nang (DAD) coming soon
  • Official portal: prearrival.immigration.gov.vn
  • Submission window: Within 72 hours before arrival (no earlier, no later)
  • Output: QR code sent to your email

Who Needs Which Document?

Form Type

Must Complete

Exempt

Digital Pre-Arrival Card (SGN Only)

  • All Canadian travelers flying into Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), regardless of visa type (e-Visa, VOA, visa-exempt)
  • Parents/guardians may file for minors under 18
  • Vietnamese citizens (Vietnamese passport holders)
  • Same-day airside transit passengers (no immigration clearance)

NA1 Form (All Vietnam Ports)

  • Canadians using Visa on Arrival (VOA) at any airport
  • Travelers entering Vietnam by land or sea
  • Parents/guardians may file for minors under 18
  • Canadian e-Visa holders
  • Vietnamese citizens & valid Vietnam residence card holders
  • Same-day airside transit passengers

Vietnam Entry Basics for Canadians

For Canadian passport holders planning to visit Vietnam, you’ll need two core items to enter Vietnam:

  1. Valid visa (or visa exemption)
  2. Required entry declaration(s) (Digital Pre-Arrival Card / NA1 Form, based on your port & visa)

Visa Options for Canadians

All three visa pathways for Canadians require completing Vietnam Entry Declarations. Here’s a concise breakdown:

  • Visa Exempt (Rare): Vietnamese-Canadians + immediate family; direct Phu Quoc Island arrivals
  • e-Visa (Most Popular): Apply online 3+ business days in advance; no NA1 needed; SGN arrivals need Digital Pre-Arrival Card
  • Visa on Arrival (VOA): Get approval letter online first; pay stamping fee at airport; needs NA1 Form + SGN arrivals need Digital Pre-Arrival Card

Vietnam Entry and Exit Form (On Arrival Form M3) – Download and Get Ready for Your Adventure

Canadian travelers have three convenient ways to get the Vietnam Arrival Card, depending on preference and timing:

NA1 Form (VOA & Land/Sea Only)

What Happens After You Submit Your Vietnam Arrival Card?

At the Airport: Your Guide to Navigating Vietnam with an Arrival Card

After submitting your Vietnam Arrival Card (digital confirmation or paper form) along with your Canadian passport and visa (if required), here’s what to expect during the immigration process.

Step 1: Immigration Inspection

The immigration officer will scan your passport and Vietnam Arrival Card details to verify your information. This process usually takes 5–10 minutes, but it can be longer during peak travel times (e.g., Vietnamese holidays or Canadian winter break). The officer may ask you a few simple questions—don’t worry, they’re usually straightforward:

  • “How long will you be staying in Vietnam?”
  • “Where are you staying in Vietnam?” (Have your hotel address ready if they ask.)
  • “What is the purpose of your trip?” (Tourism, business, visiting family—just be honest.)

Step 2: Passport Stamping

Once your information is verified, the officer will stamp your passport with your entry date and allowed stay duration. Double-check the stamp to make sure the dates are correct—if there’s a mistake, ask the officer to correct it immediately.

Step 3: Next Steps

  • If you have an e-visa: You’re all set! Head straight to baggage claim to pick up your luggage.
  • If you have a visa-on-arrival: After passport stamping, go to the “Visa on Arrival Counter” to pay the ~25 USD stamping fee (cash only, USD preferred) and get your visa sticker. Then proceed to baggage claim.

Pro Tip: Keep your Vietnam Arrival Card confirmation (digital or paper) with you during your trip—you may need it when exiting Vietnam (though immigration usually only asks for your passport on departure).

Common Mistakes to Avoid on the Vietnam Arrival Card

Canada to Vietnam Arrival Card Setup

To answer the question: What mistakes should you avoid when arriving in Vietnam?, let’s focus on the most common errors Canadian travelers make when filling out the Vietnam Arrival Card:

  1. Wrong document mix-up: e-Visa holders: Do NOT fill NA1 Form; SGN arrivals: Don’t skip Digital Pre-Arrival Card
  2. Submitting too early: Digital Pre-Arrival Card: Submissions over 72 hours early are rejected
  3. Cash declaration error: Declare cash over 10,000 USD (not 5,000 USD)
  4. Typos on passport info: Name, passport number, dates must match exactly
  5. Losing QR code/confirmation: Save offline + email backup + print a copy

This guide covers all current rules for Canadian travelers flying into Vietnam. Follow the timing and document rules for your arrival airport and visa type, and you’ll enjoy a fast, smooth entry. Safe travels!

overall had a pleasant stay, came for business so location was good for me, although it was further out from the city center in district 1. staff were friendly, room didn't feel the cleanest and slightly dated but acceptable. wish the gym was open till abit later, and that breakfast had a wider selection, but overall okay :)

This century-old hotel truly has character! You can feel the Saigon of a hundred years ago. While the rooms aren't brand new, they are very comfortable. I booked a king room and the bed was huge! The hotel breakfast was delightful, see the pictures below. The freshly made pho and baguettes were both delicious. The location is excellent, you can walk everywhere.

Absolutely loved this hotel! The location is fantastic, perfect for city walking and exploring all the popular attractions in Ho Chi Minh City without needing a car. The hotel has a pool, and the rooms are really comfortable. We stayed over Christmas, and there was a choir singing in the lobby in the evening, which really added to the festive atmosphere. If I ever go back to Ho Chi Minh City, this will definitely be my top choice!

Stayed for 2 nights at Wink Hotel in mid December. Good first impression when checking into the hotel. Lobby felt welcoming and staff was on hand to help with the self check-in. The room came with a queen bed but was quite small. Will be a tight squeeze for 2 people. The interior was quite plain but clean. Bfast was delicious with a good variety of local and international fare. Laundry costs USD$2 for each wash and dry cycle. Best thing about it was the location. There were plenty of convenience stores, restaurants and cafes just around the hotel. From the airport, a grab ride to the hotel was about usd$4. It's also about 2-3km from Japan town and Saigon centre.

This is a hotel of contradictions. The facade is impressive. It's centrally located in District 1 near restaurants, shops and the Western quarter. The buffet breakfast selection is pleasing. The room size is generous. Staff are friendly and helpful. There's a forward thinking eco-friendly policy which clearly implemented throughout the hotel. However, the hotel is let down by some of its facilities. For example, in the bathroom a spa has been placed under a shower head so that when you shower the water runs down the wall and floods across the bathroom floor from one side to the other and in front of the hand basin. The hot and cold water taps turn on in opposite directions and the cold tap is not fitted properly which causes it to move. My children were unable to turn the shower on or off without adult help. The shower head is also too low and my 6 foot husband had to crouch down to shower. Another problem area is the rooftop pool area. The clear rooptop pool perimeter fence is woefully too low. I watched a child climb out of the pool to the ledge between the pool and the perimeter fence and I was very worried for his safety. One wrong slip or stumble and there's nothing stopping the child from toppling over the edge and 11 floors down. This hotel has a lot going for it but also has further room for improvement.

This place is hard to find even to some locals, and its especially hard for foreigners to come by for the first time. It's a newly building with security at the lobby, and there are shops and restaurants near by which is convenient. However; there is hardly a management of this property, we booked for 4days 3 nights and there were only 4 bottles in total and we had no respond when we required for more water bottles.(good thing is shops are close by.) Secondly, we also had no respond when we requied of house cleaning, we found and killed Cockroaches everyday. Last but not least, the third night of stay hot water running out, I had to take a cold shower. I don't mind taking cold showers in Vietnam's current weather, its just i didnt have an option of hot water makes this stay less worthy. There are also some pros of this property, the views are good, you get to see the landmark 81 building right outside the window, and some parts of river view. Besides the views, they use good quality bedding appliances (mattresses are great) and electrical appliances(dryer in your closet, you get to hang your wet clothes, sanitize and dry them). Overall, I would come back and live here if the management can starting to catch up.

I’ve been in Saigon for months now moving from hotel to hotel. The Myst Dong Khoi is an excellent choice among the options. The best feature, and one that matters a lot here, is quiet and peace. The Myst’s rooms are very quiet. I worked inside my room for hours and didn’t hear much. The hotel is cute and well run. Lovely staff. Efficient processes. Well priced and very well situated in a safe and western-friendly location.  I will absolutely stay here again.  And I did. For another week!! Areas of improvement include breakfast tables being placed just inches apart - hugely inappropriate and made me find other options for breakfast. I’d also do a better job separating families with rowdy kids and everyone else.

My third time at this hotel. Very convenient because of the location, the reception staff are very pleasant and happy to help you. The breakfast is very boring. Cheap ingredients. And the room is too small for the number of guests even though they added a room. Going down the stairs is not the most convenient. And the service lacks character, the cook does a great job and always fills in what is missing. You can see that he is professional and experienced. And he is also very friendly. But we took sandwiches for the long train ride and I must say that this was the biggest disappointment. Because I did not take a sandwich down to the kitchen for myself, because to get a sandwich from the dining room I am supposed to pay extra. Although only a few dollars, the principle is completely stupid. The sandwich I received was terrible, dry, boring, made from two slices of cheap bread, a kind of cheese leaf and a hard-boiled egg. Something really inedible. Bread that chokes you. I prefer nothing to this free nothing.

The room was a decent size, had everything I needed, and was very clean. However, the curtains were poorly designed, letting in light on both sides (see photo). I arrived late at night, and by the time I was settled, it was already 1 AM. As a result, I was woken up by the light at 6 AM. The breakfast was plentiful, with both Asian and Western options. There's also a restaurant on the third floor where you can have lunch and dinner, and the prices are reasonable. Many local Vietnamese families dine there. The hotel is close to all the tourist attractions, making it a good choice overall. My only complaint is that the front desk captain was unfriendly and unsmiling.

I have to give this hotel a five-star review! The ambiance is absolutely splendid, with a true Italian luxury style. The service was warm and attentive. On our first day, our room had a slight musty smell, but they addressed it promptly after we reported it. The entire elevator lobby smelled wonderful. The sofas in the lobby, made of purple camel leather, were incredibly comfortable. The hotel's location is excellent, right in the heart of the city center. We even got to enjoy fireworks from our room on New Year's Eve, celebrating the new year's arrival. Seeing the huge crowd downstairs made us feel like this room was incredibly worth it.

Highly recommend anyone coming to Ho Chi Minh City to stay here! Location is super nice & close to main attractions, staffs are very thoughtful & attentive, room is clean & interior is very unique. The hotel also has a skyroof-like restaurant which serves fusion food and the prices are still affordable for me. They also give out complimentary drinks and afternoon tea time to guest. You can also borrow powerbank, city bikes, and traditional hat for free at the reception. Plus, when I am about to travel back to the airport, they have a special Grab code for the guests of this hotel that gives you 20% off! Very nice experience indeed

It was our first ever trip to Vietnam and it was amazing city saigon. Although the language was an issue at the start wr managed to try to connect mostly with eveyrone. The staff at the hotel were beyond amazing in their service and gestures. They even surprised my mum with a doorstep cake for her birthday! KUDOS TO THE RECEPTION TEAM AND BRYAN WHO WAS SO CALM AND PATIENT IN EXPLAINING AND HELPING US OUT. 🥰😊 Will definitely recommend people to stay here! Rooms were spacious and views was not too bad if higher floors 😍

1.Location: This hotel locate at a very good place. You can just walk by foot to many tourist attractions. And there are many brilliant restaurants nearby.(Except Lebanhmi) 2.Service: The hotel guy will help you to pick up the luggages. And their service is very good that should make you very comfortable. 3.Room: I really don’t care about the size of the room. But the soundproofing is REALLY REALLY TERRIBLE. I stayed in hotel for three days. Every night, may be around 1:00-3:00AM. I can hear very clearly about the big bang sound outside for someone opening the door or their talking voice. That really made me very nervous. I suggest the hotel can consider about changing the soundproof materials of the door. If they can improve this concept, I may rebook for next trip in Saigon.

We stayed for six nights. Pros: - Excellent location in a tourist area, close to all amenities and shops. - Polite service with excellent English. - Daily towel changes, room cleaning, water, and toiletries. - Great cafe right outside on the ground floor. - Good breakfast from 7 to 10 AM, but the later you go, the less selection there is. - Air conditioning works perfectly. - Real plants with drip irrigation – very nice. - At first glance, a cozy room with a balcony. Cons: - Due to the plants on the balcony, tiny bugs constantly crawl around the room, bed, and bathroom. They are harmless, like specks of sand, but caused a slight discomfort. - The bathroom wasn't the cleanest due to humidity and old renovations. It was always cleaned, but it looked old and musty. - Not all drinks were refilled daily, contrary to what some reviews mentioned. Initially, there was beer, Pepsi, tea, and water. - Poor soundproofing; noises from the corridor and the neighboring room were audible. - And most importantly – street noise. A closed balcony didn't help; there was noise on the street until midnight and starting at 9 AM. Sports broadcasts, hawkers, construction from neighboring buildings – everything was audible, as if you were right on the street. Since our balcony faced the street, we experienced this; perhaps there are other room options with windows facing inwards. Overall, the hotel isn't bad for its price and genuinely tries to be good, but the longer we stayed, the more downsides we noticed. We wish them continued improvement!

FAQs about Vietnam Arrival Card

  • Is the Vietnam Arrival Card the same as a Vietnam visa?

No, the Vietnam Arrival Card and a Vietnam visa are two completely separate documents. A visa (or e-visa) grants you permission to enter Vietnam, while the arrival card is an immigration declaration form that all travellers must complete regardless of how they obtained their visa. Think of the visa as your entry permission and the arrival card as a registration form you fill out upon arrival.
  • What is a pre-arrival letter for Vietnam?

A pre-arrival letter (also called visa approval letter) is required for Visa on Arrival (VOA) applicants. It's an official document issued by Vietnam Immigration that you apply for online in advance. You must print it and bring it to the airport along with your passport, photos, and stamping fee.
  • What happens if I make a mistake on my Vietnam Arrival Card?

If you make a mistake on your Vietnam Arrival Card, request a new form — either from the flight attendant or at the immigration hall — and start fresh. Do not use correction fluid (white-out) on the form, as this can raise questions with immigration officers. Always write in blue or black ballpoint pen, use block capital letters, and double-check all details against your passport before submitting.
  • What address should I put on the Vietnam Arrival Card?

You should enter the name and address of the hotel or accommodation where you will be staying on your first night in Vietnam. If you are travelling to multiple cities, the address of your first accommodation is sufficient. Booking your Vietnam hotel in advance through a platform like Trip.com ensures you have a confirmed address ready to complete your arrival card without any delays at immigration.
  • What do Canadians need to enter Vietnam?

Canadian passport holders need a valid passport (with at least six months of validity beyond their intended stay), a Vietnamese visa or e-visa (unless a visa exemption applies), and a completed Vietnam Arrival Card. Proof of accommodation and a return or onward ticket may also be requested at immigration. Canadians can apply for a Vietnam e-visa online through the official Vietnam Immigration portal before travelling.
