First Impression: The Luxurious Ritual of a European Castle Subtle and Secluded Driveway: As the car turned from the tree-lined Dunhua North Road, it entered a highly private French-style circular driveway, exclusively designed for VIP guests. Museum-Quality Artistic Ambiance: Stepping into the grand and towering lobby, guests are greeted by an aesthetic space adorned with over 1,700 original artworks and exquisite giant crystal chandeliers. Impeccable Welcome Service: The front desk service is attentive and seamless. Upon being seated, guests are immediately presented with a ceremonial special hibiscus welcome tea and hot towels.

The hotel's interior decor is stunning, with a strong Japanese feel. The rooms are clean and spacious, featuring a private onsen and yukata. Plus, there are complimentary drinks and snacks. If you check in around 3 PM, you can enjoy a tea ceremony performance with free green tea and snacks. Breakfast offers a wide and delicious selection!

The hotel is conveniently located with friendly and polite front desk staff. The room was clean and hygienic. The elevator at the back of the hotel goes directly to B3, where you can access an underground passage to the MRT, High-Speed Rail, regular train, and Taoyuan Airport MRT without having to cross the street. It's truly convenient.

The cleanliness was acceptable and consistent with the hotel’s facility rating. The location was excellent and suited our needs perfectly, as it is located right next to Taipei Main Station and can be reached in less than a 10-minute walk via the underground passage. Breakfast is served on the 6th floor, but there is no lift access, which may be inconvenient for elderly guests or those with mobility issues. However, it should not be a problem for younger guests. Overall, the hotel met our expectations and offered good value for its convenient location.

Excellent location, walking distance from Taipei Main Station, many departures from Taipei Post Office bus station next street. I like the staircase design of double-decker bed, there is bathroom and a sink inside the room, apart from the hallway ones. The building is old, however, a few stair steps before reaching the lift. Water dispenser is only located on 2/F but lack on 6/F. Lots of food choices downstairs. Room price was the cheapest I could find. 

Hotel Papa Whale in Ximending is a good, quiet, original hotel for short stays, a 7 minute walk from the busy streets and ”The Red House”. I got this room for 1.125 NTD a night. But make sure you ask for a ”Double Elegant Room” on the third floor. The room I was first given on second floor smelled damp. I did not try the hotel dining or breakfast but you can walk from inside the hotel straight into a Starbucks for breakfast. The rooms have a unique, rough but elegant vintage industrial look with good size wall mounted TV, comfortable beds and nice three piece bathrooms with good water pressure. The rooms are clean but have vintage wear with many original details. I would stay again.

We arrived early and couldn't check in, so we just dropped off our luggage. The hotel's location is a bit far from the shops, right in between two commercial areas. You have to walk quite a bit to get to a convenience store. The hotel's facilities have a great design aesthetic; a wall of vintage suitcases greets you upon entry. Check-in was relatively simple. We were on the second floor and found some mosquitoes, so we had to ask the front desk for an electric mosquito repellent. The room size and facilities were decent, overall very comfortable, and the air conditioning was strong. We came back late one night and asked the front desk for extra towels and water, but had to go down and get them ourselves. Overall, it's good value for money.

The location is very good, located in the central of everything — park, train station, shopping district. You can literally walk to everywhere you want. The room and the bathroom are spacious but there is a strong smell of cigarette smoke in the room despite the prohibition — not sure it comes from the ventilation system or not.

A very quiet and peaceful place to stay. The place looks sketchy but it's actually safe. Also, it is near to a lot of places like convenient stores, Shilin night market, pharmacy, and to MRT station. There are also local restaurants nearby. If I visit Taiwan again, I'll definitely go back to this place.

I’ve stayed in several affordable hotels here in Taipei, and I understand that you usually get what you pay for. However, I still believe that basic cleanliness and proper maintenance should always be provided to guests regardless of the price range. Sadly, this has been the worst hotel experience I’ve had so far. First of all, the room did not feel clean at all. The bathtub was extremely dirty, with visible stains and molds around it. Even the toilet walls, floors, and sink area looked poorly maintained. There was also a water leak from the toilet ceiling, which made the bathroom feel even more uncomfortable. The fridge still had leftover food from the previous guest, which honestly made me question if the room had been cleaned properly before we arrived. I also requested for the bed to be cleaned, but after staying there, I suddenly developed rashes, which made me worried about the cleanliness of the sheets and pillows. The sheets had stains, maybe blood stains (not sure what it was). The pillow also had an unpleasant smell, as if it had not been washed properly. As someone who values cleanliness, this was very disappointing and uncomfortable. Another issue was the condition of the room itself. Despite having several light bulbs installed, only one light was working, making the entire room feel dark and gloomy. The walls and bathroom areas clearly need maintenance and renovation. On top of that, the soundproofing was very poor. I could hear noises from other rooms very clearly, including conversations and even dripping water sounds throughout the night, making it difficult to rest comfortably. What disappointed me the most was that the photos posted online looked completely different from the actual room. The hotel appeared much cleaner and more maintained in the pictures, which honestly gave us expectations that were far from reality. However, I genuinely want to commend the staff because they were the only bright side of our stay. The receptionist was very kind, polite, and accommodating from the moment we arrived. They were approachable and communicated well in English, which was very helpful for foreign guests like us. Despite the condition of the hotel, the staff still tried their best to assist guests professionally and respectfully. You can tell that they are hardworking people simply doing their job properly. That is also why I feel bad leaving this kind of review. The staff members deserve appreciation because they handle guests with patience and kindness, even though many of the problems seem to come from the hotel’s maintenance and management itself. It honestly feels like the employees are the ones carrying the burden of complaints that should already be addressed by the owner. My brother and I even considered changing hotels, but since we were only staying for 2 nights and 1 day, we decided to just endure it. I truly hope the owner takes guest feedback seriously because the hotel has potential if proper cleanliness, maintenance, and care are given attention. I normally don’t leave negative reviews, but I think future guests deserve an honest experience, and I also hope this review encourages improvements because the staff truly deserve a better-managed workplace and guests deserve a cleaner and more comfortable stay.
