MMD2024This time, I stayed at Mo Keyuan from August 14th to 15th. When I was choosing a hotel, I was quite surprised to see Mo Keyuan had nothing but glowing reviews. After staying there, I realized that both its facilities and service are indeed exceptional. **Ambiance & Location:** In terms of its location, it's merely 50 meters from Pingjiang Road, and within comfortable walking distance of Humble Administrator's Garden, Lion Grove Garden, and Suzhou Museum. It's also nestled in the same alley as the famous Zhuo Lin Li Tang Zhou (a traditional dessert shop), just 20-30 meters away, and shares an adjacent alley with Couple's Retreat Garden. This geographical positioning is simply superb! The hotel itself is a numbered private garden with five interconnected courtyards, boasting exquisite rockeries, ponds, and bridges. Its design is incredibly intricate, offering distinct scenic views with every turn. Guanhuatang, a key hall, is the central room in the innermost of these five courtyards. The front desk is located in the first courtyard, exuding an antique charm. Upon entering the second courtyard, you're greeted by a misty, ethereal atmosphere, providing a refreshing coolness on hot days and adding a wonderful artistic touch. The third courtyard houses the banquet hall, while the fourth and fifth are dedicated to guest rooms. In reality, this compound is far more complex than it appears, with the unique asymmetrical structure typical of Suzhou gardens revealing many delightful surprises. **Cleanliness:** Everywhere I looked was impeccably clean. Unlike other Chinese courtyards I've stayed in, at Mo Keyuan, all areas (except guest rooms and staff offices) are openly accessible. Furthermore, the furniture inside is exceptionally well-maintained and clean, giving the impression that they are actively used daily. The rooms were subtly pre-scented with incense, and the bathrooms were also spotless. **Facilities:** Mo Keyuan boasts comprehensive facilities, offering both dining options and captivating Pingtan (Suzhou storytelling and ballad singing) performances. Guests can enjoy these performances for free, held in a charming small hall in the second courtyard, which serves as both a restaurant and a performance venue. The performance hall is very well-equipped, featuring background projection and automatic stage curtains, truly showing great attention to detail. Furthermore, before checking in, I was somewhat concerned about security. However, upon arrival, I found that the visitor and guest areas are effectively separated by access control, ensuring both privacy and safety. **Service:** The service was incredibly attentive. The butler was always ready to answer any questions and had an excellent, friendly attitude. Every staff member had a great service attitude and was remarkably patient. Due to a last-minute change in our itinerary, we only decided quite late that we wanted to have lunch at Mo Keyuan the next day. However, the butler arranged it perfectly, and we got to savor the Squirrel-shaped Mandarin Fish and Crab Roe Tofu we had hoped for. The hotel's shuttle service was even more convenient, saving us precious time and effort when visiting the Humble Administrator's Garden, Suzhou Museum, and Lion Grove Garden. We also had the pleasure of meeting the garden owner this time, who was very approachable and clearly poured their heart and soul into managing this exquisite garden. **Daily Pingtan Performance (2 Tickets):** The Pingtan performance was excellent. The young lady sang beautifully and spoke with such gentle grace; experiencing the 'Wu Nong Soft Language' (Suzhou dialect) live was truly delightful. The performance also included complimentary Biluochun tea and homemade mung bean cakes, making it a truly enjoyable experience. I'm extremely glad I chose Mo Keyuan this time. My only regret is not being able to stay an extra night to spend half a day simply wandering around the garden, sipping tea, watching the fish, and relaxing – that would have been utterly tranquil and perfect.

PPinganshidaoI originally booked a Classic Room package. The front desk staff suggested upgrading to a Balcony Room, which is 30 square meters larger, for an additional 500 RMB. I took their advice, and after comparing, I think it was worth it because not only did I get more space, but also a large balcony and double breakfast. The room was high-ceilinged and cool, the air conditioning was comfortable, and the mattress was very pleasant. There were many books in the room to browse. The bathroom had a double vanity, but I was a little disappointed that not every sink had both hand soap and lotion. The left sink had hand soap, and the right one had lotion. So, if you wanted to wash your hands, you went to the left sink, and then to the right sink for lotion after washing. The two sinks were quite far apart with a large bathtub in the middle. I hope the hotel can be a bit more generous and provide both items at each sink, which would be much more convenient. From the moment I entered the hotel, the service felt like I was entering my own home. There were complimentary snacks, and the tea served was also good. All the staff greeted me with proactive smiles. The breakfast selection wasn't extensive, but everything was high quality, though there's room for improvement with the Western pastries. This trip, I specifically went for the noodles at Su Mian Fang. The service and taste were absolutely incredible, though the price was a bit on the high side. I wanted to eat them again. I'm not sure if it's because I rarely eat Su noodles and am therefore less knowledgeable, or if they truly are considered a delicacy among Suzhou noodles. Additionally, the hotel's environment is very Suzhou-like, and it's located by the lake in front of the Gate of the Orient.

GGaogaodezonglvshuThis was my first time booking the Jinji Lake Hotel. Arriving at almost 2 p.m., after checking in, I noticed a strong odor of cigarette smoke in the room. I'm a nonsmoker, but my wife is allergic to cigarette smoke. I called the front desk, and someone was immediately dispatched to address the situation. The lobby manager also came and offered to move us to a nonsmoking room, complete with complimentary drinks in the room. Upon check-out, the front desk even gave us a small gift—service comparable to Japan. A fruit platter was also provided upon check-in. The room was spacious, clean, and beautifully landscaped, making it a perfect place for a trip. The underground garage offers convenient parking. The breakfast was average, with handmade ramen noodles, but I didn't get the Suzhou-style red noodle soup, which was a slight disappointment. However, the downsides outweighed the upsides. I'll definitely book the Jinji Lake Hotel again when I visit Suzhou next time.

GGuest UserThis was my second stay. Last time, I came with my partner, and this time I specifically brought my parents along. The hotel's location is superb, and its garden-style design perfectly captures the essence of Suzhou. The room's cleanliness was satisfactory, and the towels came in sealed bags, which made us feel very reassured. The citrus-scented amenities and the fragrance from the incense cones on the table were also lovely, giving the room a cozy, homely feel. I especially want to commend the hotel's cultural guided tour service. Our guide, Xiao Xu, was exceptionally professional. Not only was he well-versed in historical facts, but he also added many fascinating, little-known details. We were fortunate enough to visit Building 7 this time, which was a wonderful bonus experience. Furthermore, the staff were incredibly thoughtful; seeing us a bit warm after the tour, they proactively offered us fans. This kind of subtle yet attentive service truly deserves praise. Before checking out, remember to get a souvenir stamp at the front desk. Overall, the experience was fantastic, making it a reliable and trustworthy place to stay for a trip to Suzhou.

GGuest UserThe service of the little sister at the front desk is really good! The smile is very comfortable! The gentleness of Suzhou women's speech is vividly reflected! The balcony of the room is very comfortable, but it is best to go after the catkin season. There were too many catkins during the days I went there. As for the room facilities, I think the shower room is a little backward, and the faucet is adjusted separately for cold and hot water. I think the quality of the paper towels in this price room can be better, so that the grade is OK. After all, there is no off-season in Suzhou now, it is always the peak season😂

AAnonymous User⭐ Suzhou Shantang Shuxiang Mansion | Prime Location, But 5-Star Quality Doesn't Justify 5-Star Price (3-Day, 2-Night Honest Review) 📍 Location: ★★★★★ (Irreplaceable) ✅ Right in the heart of Shantang Street scenic area (No. 88 Shantang Street). Step out and you're on the ancient street, perfect for exploring and dining. ✅ Quiet yet central: Outside, it's the bustling city life; inside, it's a Suzhou-style garden with white walls, black tiles, and flowing water – incredibly atmospheric. ✅ Convenient transportation: About a 7-minute walk to Shantang Street Metro Station, making it easy to get to attractions like Humble Administrator's Garden and Tiger Hill by taxi or subway. 🏡 Facilities & Environment: Garden is a plus, details are a minus ✔️ Highlights: Converted from a Ming and Qing dynasty guild hall, with a Chinese courtyard and carved window frames – great for ancient-style photos; rooms are individual villas, offering good privacy. ❌ Drawbacks (unacceptable for a 5-star hotel): • Facilities are a bit old (renovated in 2016), with some furniture wear and tear and aging fixtures. Lacks the refinement of a 5-star hotel. • Cleaning blind spots: Dust in corners, obvious water stains on bathroom glass; encountered a cockroach on the first day (promptly handled, but still unpleasant). • Soundproofing is average: Street-facing rooms can hear street noise, so it's not absolutely quiet. 🛎️ Service: Good attitude, but lacks professionalism ✔️ Basic service is up to par: Bellhops help with luggage, smooth check-in/check-out process; free Pingtan performances in the afternoon, and Hanfu experience available by reservation. ❌ 5-star service shortcomings: • Slow response: Calling the butler/front desk often results in a wait of over 15 minutes, with no proactive greetings or follow-ups. • Lack of detail: No turndown service; breakfast selection is limited and quality is average, lacking the variety of a 5-star buffet. 💰 Value for Money: Location seriously overpriced, quality doesn't match the price • Room rates are approximately 1200-2000 RMB/night. The core premium comes from its rare location within the Shantang scenic area. • Compared to other 5-star hotels at the same price point (e.g., InterContinental, Marriott), there are significant gaps in facilities, service, and dining. It feels more like a high-end garden guesthouse than a luxury hotel. ✅ Summary & Recommendations (Expert's Honest Opinion) Suitable for: • Travelers seeking an immersive Jiangnan garden experience in a prime location, with a generous budget, who prioritize atmosphere over facilities. • Those who enjoy ancient-style photography, exploring Shantang Street, and prefer not to rush around. Not suitable for: • Business travelers or quality-conscious guests who expect standard 5-star service, refined facilities, and absolute privacy/quietness. • Travelers seeking high value for money and unwilling to pay a high premium for location. In a nutshell: Irreplaceable location, but not truly 5-star quality. Choose based on your needs, and book rationally.

Very Good
GGuest UserHotels these days always talk about 'cost reduction and efficiency improvement,' but there's a prerequisite for that: it shouldn't come at the expense of service quality. Otherwise, it's just cutting corners. This hotel definitely gets full marks for its environment. The air in the mountains is fresh, and it's very quiet, with birds chirping and insects buzzing – very peaceful. However, the service staff are all temporary hires, so the service is a bit subpar. Let me give you a few examples: When I checked in, I was told there was a shuttle bus. At first, I didn't take it and walked up the stairs myself. After walking several flights, I felt quite tired. I saw a cleaning lady and asked her where to catch the shuttle. She immediately replied, 'Don't ask me, I'm just here temporarily to clean, I don't know anything.' I was sleeping soundly in the morning but was woken up by sunlight. I saw the sun streaming in from the bathroom window, and the bathroom door was transparent and didn't block the light. I noticed a roller blind on the bathroom window, an electric one, but couldn't find the switch. So I called the front desk to ask. The front desk staff said she didn't know where the switch was either and would have to send an engineering staff member to my room to find it. Eventually, I found the switch on an recessed wall above the bathroom vanity, but by the time I found it, my sleepiness was gone. Since I was awake, I went down for breakfast. There was a host stand at the restaurant entrance, but no one was there. I waited for a while, still no one, so I just went in. A lady in a black suit in the restaurant saw me and asked for my room number. I thought, 'You should at least seat me first before asking for my room number!' She casually pointed and said, 'Just find a seat yourself, any empty spot is fine.' Then she scurried off, no longer caring about the room number. After breakfast, I thought about visiting the nearby Yuyang Mountain Scenic Area. I asked the hotel front desk, and the staff member told me I could take the cable car to the top of the mountain for the views. She confidently told me the cable car station was right at the main entrance of the scenic area. In reality, the cable car station and the main entrance are completely different locations. The cable car entrance is about two or three hundred meters from the hotel, while the scenic area's main entrance is six or seven hundred meters away. If you want to take the cable car up the mountain, don't do what I did and go all the way to the main entrance before backtracking to the cable car entrance. Even a few hundred meters in hot weather can make you sweat profusely. It felt like the hotel staff themselves had never actually been there. I arrived at the hotel around 1 PM, and I wanted to ask if there was a room available for check-in. If not, I'd go out for lunch first. As soon as my car pulled into a parking spot in front of the hotel lobby, a man in a white shirt came over to shoo me away, saying 'Don't park here, don't park here!' in a very aggressive tone. I said I was just asking if there was a room available. He said, 'No room, no room, no room now,' very impatiently. I retorted, 'Oh, so you know everything, do you?' He rolled his eyes at me and walked away. That was my first impression of the 'white shirt' guy. Later, I saw him delivering fruit to rooms, delivering meals to rooms, he was everywhere. In the morning, I was sitting in the hotel lobby waiting for someone to go to breakfast together, and he came over and said, 'Go sit over there, I'm going to turn on the air conditioning, I need to close the doors and windows first,' his tone leaving no room for argument. When I was checking out, I saw 'white shirt' in the lobby helping guests with their luggage, seeming to enjoy himself immensely. I was so curious about what kind of job this 'white shirt' person actually had. Finally, I found out he was the hotel general manager. Well, that certainly fits the bill, a 'Labor Day' experience of life, I suppose. Finally, I'd like to tell the hotel that the bath towels and face towels in the rooms need replacing. They're supposed to be pristine white and soft, but they've become stiff and stained black. The chair covers on the balcony also need to be replaced; they're all torn. All things considered, for a price range of around a thousand yuan, this resort hotel is still worth staying at.

GGuest UserThe hotel grounds are vast, with a large lakeside area featuring a yacht club and a charming garden – the scenery is fantastic! Xishan Island has a good ecosystem, but there are quite a few insects. Breakfast was plentiful, and for lunch we ordered hot and sour shredded potatoes, which were incredibly delicious with a wonderful wok hei (wok aroma)! We ended up having dinner at the hotel again, enjoying tea-smoked pork ribs and bamboo shoots with silver fish – the chef's skill was excellent. It was more affordable and suited our tastes better than the trendy restaurants outside. Before dinner, the staff thoughtfully gave us homemade fresh meat mooncakes, which were sweet and delicious! This made up for our only regret on our trip – we hadn't brought any mooncakes. The yacht service is also a highlight; you need to book it yourself at the club's front desk. The staff and speedboat driver who greeted us were experienced and very kind – a truly unforgettable experience. I hope the hotel continues to thrive!
