Thailand Arrival Card Overview

What Is the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)?

The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) is a mandatory online entry requirement for all non-Thai nationals, fully enforced starting May 1, 2025. It replaces the discontinued paper TM6 arrival card, which is no longer accepted at any Thai air, land, or sea border. Unlike the old on-arrival paper form, the TDAC must be completed online before departing Canada.

Importantly, the TDAC is not a visa and does not guarantee entry, as final approval lies with Thai immigration officers. Failing to submit a valid TDAC will result in denied boarding or immigration delays. This rule applies to Canadian travellers visiting Thailand for tourism, snowbird stays, business trips, and eligible transit.

Why You Need the Thailand Digital Arrival Card Before Flying

Thailand is a popular tropical getaway for Canadian tourists and winter snowbirds escaping cold domestic weather. The shift from paper TM6 cards to a pre-departure digital system is a major policy update that often catches travellers off guard. Previously completed on arrival, entry paperwork now requires pre-flight online submission, and poor preparation can cause travel disruptions. Learning official TDAC rules ensures smooth check-in and fast immigration clearance for all Thailand visits.

Is TDAC Required in Future Years?

Yes. The TDAC mandate is a long-term official policy with no planned cancellations or temporary exemptions. All non-Thai nationals entering Thailand through any port must submit a valid TDAC, and this standard remains in effect for future years.

Who Needs to Fill Out TDAC & Official Exemptions

The TDAC rule applies to all non-Thai travellers of any age, including Canadian adults, teens, children, and infants. Parents or guardians may submit forms for minor dependents. Thai citizens and permanent residents are fully exempt.

The only other official exemption applies to international transit passengers who remain within the airport’s secure transit zone and do not clear Thai immigration. Anyone exiting the transit area to enter Thailand must complete a TDAC.

Required Information & Pre-Travel Documents

Standard TDAC submissions require no physical document uploads, but all details must exactly match your Canadian passport and travel records. Prepare the following information in advance to avoid errors or rejections:

  • Passport details: Full legal name, passport number, date of birth, nationality, and passport validity status
  • Personal details: Occupation, gender, and active international contact number
  • Travel itinerary: Exact arrival date, entry mode, flight/vehicle number, departure location, and optional Thailand departure date
  • Accommodation info: Confirmed first-night stay details including hotel name and full address; vague placeholder entries are prohibited
  • Health declarations: 14-day travel history, current health status, and Yellow Fever proof (only for travellers from high-risk regions)

Critical Rules for Family Name & Given Name Entry

Incorrect name formatting is the top cause of TDAC clearance issues for Canadian travellers. The system strictly follows passport MRZ standards with zero tolerance for mismatches.

Enter your surname and given names exactly as shown on your Canadian passport in uppercase English letters only. Avoid nicknames, shortened names, accents, symbols, or alternate spellings. All name data is locked and uneditable after submission.

Example: Passport name “JOHN MICHAEL SMITH” → Family Name: SMITH, Given Name: JOHN MICHAEL

7/10. I bought it yesterday and it only became active after 24 hours, which seriously hampered me as I lost a day of my subscription. A bit disappointed!

I used it in Bangkok and around the Maeklong Market area, and the signal was stable and reliable in both locations. It seemed to be constantly connected to the AIS signal. The device I used was a Motorola Edge 50s Pro. Installation was done by scanning a QR code. APN settings and other configurations were all done automatically. It was easy, requiring only three steps: scanning the QR code (done locally), activating the SIM (done locally), and turning on data roaming for the SIM (done locally). When scanning the QR code, if the device isn't connected to another network, the SIM won't download, so you'll need to have someone you're with tether or use airport Wi-Fi. (This isn't a bug or malfunction, it's normal. Please be aware of this.) In terms of signal strength, data consumption speed, and battery drain on the device, it was comparable to LINEMO, which I use in Japan. I went for four days and used a little over 3GB, so 5GB was just right.

Official Step-by-Step Thailand Digital Arrival Card Submission Process

Submit Personal Information for TDAC

Step 1 – Access the Official TDAC Portal

Only use the government-authorized website: tdac.immigration.go.th. The portal supports desktop and mobile browsers with a homepage QR code for quick access. Use Chrome or Firefox for best compatibility, and avoid all third-party mirror sites and paid service platforms.

Step 2 – Input Personal & Passport Details

Start an individual or group submission. Use the optional auto-fill tool or manually enter all personal data in uppercase to match your passport MRZ line. Review entries carefully, as core personal details cannot be modified after submission.

Step 3 – Fill in Travel & Accommodation Details

Input verified flight or transport details including airline, flight number, and departure location. Enter your pre-booked, confirmed first-night Thailand accommodation; tentative or placeholder bookings are not accepted.

Step 4 – Complete Standard Health Declaration

All travellers must complete basic health and 14-day travel history declarations. Additional vaccination documentation is only required for visitors from official high-risk regions. Most Canadian travellers qualify for standard declaration-only submission with no extra paperwork.

Step 5 – Add Co-Travellers & Full Application Review

For groups of up to 10 travellers, use the “Add Co-traveller” tool to input each companion’s unique passport details. All group confirmations are sent to one primary email. Review all entries thoroughly: only minor travel details like flight times can be updated post-submission; personal information remains locked.

Step 6 – Submit & Save TDAC Confirmation

Enter a valid email, accept the official terms, and submit your application. You will receive an instant on-screen confirmation, followed by a PDF with your unique TDAC QR code via email within minutes. Save an offline copy and print a physical backup for airline check-in and immigration clearance.

TDAC Timelines, Cost & Common Troubleshooting

TDAC Timelines, Cost & Common Troubleshooting

TDAC submissions are only accepted within 72 hours (3 days) before arrival, including your arrival day. Early submissions are automatically rejected. To avoid last-minute technical issues, Canadian travellers should complete their TDAC 24–48 hours before departure.

TDAC Cost & Anti-Scam Rules

The official TDAC service is 100% free for all international travellers, including Canadians. No government processing or download fees apply. All third-party websites, apps, and agencies offering paid TDAC processing are fraudulent, offer no official benefits, and may cause entry issues with invalid submissions.

Common TDAC Website Issues & Fixes

  • Site not loading: Clear browser cache, switch to Chrome/Firefox, or use desktop mode; avoid unstable public Wi-Fi
  • No confirmation email: Check spam folders, verify your email entry, and wait 10–15 minutes before resubmitting
  • Incorrect data entered: Core personal details cannot be edited; minor travel details are updatable 3+ hours pre-arrival. Critical errors require a new 72-hour window submission
  • Browser errors: Use updated desktop browsers for full functionality, especially for group submissions

Thailand Digital Arrival Card vs. Thai Visa & Official Entry Requirements

Thailand Digital Arrival Card vs. Thai Visa & Official Entry Requirements

Key Differences Between TDAC and a Thai Visa

Many Canadian travellers confuse TDAC and visa requirements, though the two are entirely separate. TDAC is a mandatory free digital declaration for all non-Thai visitors to verify travel details, with no authority to grant entry or stay rights. A Thai visa is a formal government authorization for legal entry and long-term stays.

Canadian citizens qualify for 60-day visa-free entry for tourism and short business trips, requiring only a valid passport and completed TDAC. Extended stays need both a valid visa and TDAC.

Mandatory Entry Rules & Financial Requirements

A valid TDAC is only one entry requirement. Canadian travellers must also hold a passport with 6+ months of validity, confirmed return/onward tickets, and a valid visa (if required). Thai immigration conducts random proof of funds checks: 10,000 THB per single traveler and 20,000 THB per family/group. Canadians may check real-time CAD conversion rates before travel.

Thailand Pre-Travel Planning, Seasons & Popular Destinations

Thailand Pre-Travel Planning, Seasons & Popular Destinations

Since TDAC requires verified first-night accommodation details, travellers must confirm flights and hotels before applying. Pre-booked travel documents also satisfy immigration’s random stay-verification checks for smoother arrival clearance.

Best Travel Seasons for Canadian Visitors

  • Peak Season (November–February): Cool, dry weather ideal for Canadian winter escapes; submit TDAC early to avoid portal congestion
  • Shoulder Season (March–May): Mild temperatures, fewer crowds, and lower travel costs for budget travellers
  • Rainy Season (June–October): Periodic rainfall, fewer tourists, and discounted accommodation rates

Top Thailand Destinations for Canadian Travellers

  • Koh Samui: Luxury island with clear waters and private getaways
